Eng vs Ireland odi's
« on: July 30, 2020, 08:52:24 AM »

First game is this afternoon.
Worth having a thread for this series.

Very disappointed that Hain hadn't been picked but a great opportunity for those picked who aren't first choice with 6 of the regular team in the test bubble.

I really want to see Banton do well. I suspect he will be given a slot at 5 or 6.

More opportunities for Vince at 3. Urgh.

This has the potential to be very one sided.

Agree on Vince, he's had his chance in ODIs. I wouldn't mind seeing him in T20s though given his knack of hitting very quick and very pretty 30 odds.

Hain missing out is a huge disappointment and IMO a big oversight. Root has shown there's definitely a place for that type of player and Hain's record is phenomenal.

Hoping Banton goes well though, he has a bit of that KP arrogance on the field, just an outrageous natural talent.

Tbf to Vince he has only played 11 ODI innings, with 5 of them being in 2015/16. He had a very good one day campaign for Hants averaging 73 with a 110 s/r so he deserves to be there in my opinion.

I would have liked to see Hain there as well but it's hard to see where he would fit in. Probably in place of Denly or Dawson but they both provide another bowling option.

Isn't it nice to have such depth in our ODI squad though!? As mentioned in another thread, we could field a B team that would do well against most teams.

Interested to see where this squad goes in temrs of evolution; batting depth is there for sure. Excited to see Banton given a good run, but would have liked one of the other lads to get a go over Denly

I don’t particularly rate Billings - hope he hits some runs in this series.

The more I see of Mahmood the more I question what the selectors see in him...

I don't think I have seen anyone hold the bat that high up the handle as Delaney...... or is it just the camera angles?

Iteland do have good days and are often dangerous when their batting comes off.
Today doesn't look like a good day though!!
