Decided to take my batting a bit more seriously next season and I've wanted a Red Ink for ages but didn't feel I could justify it given that I've been happy at number 9 or below until recently.
However, with my newfound commitment to making more of an effort, I asked John about the possibility of a custom and he was more than happy to sort one out for me.
The (very specific) set up I went for is an inch shorter blade with a 0.25 inch longer handle giving an overall harrow length, with a full profile, mid middle and an oval handle. Wasn't sure exactly what to expect but John has delivered a beauty and then some.
Specs:
Weight: 2lb 9.5oz (including 2.5 grips and scuff sheet)
Edges: 35mm
Spine: 52mm
Toe edge: 24.8mm
Toe centre: 28mm
Shoulder edge: 18.5mm
Pressing is superb, at least the equal of the Keeley made bats I've had, and thanks to the knocking in John has done it pings pretty much straight out of the box.
I also have to give a particular nod to John's customer service. When the bat first arrived I had some quibbles about a couple of things, particularly a ding to the toe that had happened in transit. John arranged for the bat to be collected the next day at his cost, repaired the ding, checked the bat over and sent back to me, again at his own cost. I can't think of a single 'big name' retailer that offers that level of service and certainly not at that speed, especially for a bat that cost under £150. Anyone looking for a new bat for 2021 I'd strongly encourage you to give Red Ink a go, don't think you'll be disappointed and you won't find much better value anywhere.
