Some older/signed Gray-Nicolls bats
« on: December 15, 2020, 11:39:10 PM »

Hiya, figured I'd get round to sharing this! Here are some of the older styled GNs in my collection.

GN Lazer - signed by the 2007 Hampshire squad - I think

Phoenix Carbo model - Long handle. Possibly my favourite GN profile from this era, hit my first ever six with one!

Loved the groove system.

Powerbow Force - absolute monster of a bat - around 2.14

GN Powerbow 150 years Anniversary edition - absolute beaut of a bat:

GN Predator - what coverage with that swell!

Xiphos Xtreme - absolute brute of a bat

Nice selection there @Chad, is the xiphos light as well as huge? I have a LH extreme which is only 2’ 9 and has no chance of going through the gauge

Nice collection Chad, classic shapes.

Always wanted a xiphos bat as I love the shape but never really saw any in the shops to try out, apart from a couple of extreme models which were quite frankly huge but picked up like dogs.

The powerbow and predator were such great shapes too.

One of the guys in our club had a Phoenix extreme and that thing seriously flew. Profile was enormous but you needed 3 grips to get the pickup right

@Chad  the GN Phoniex has a special place in my heart as well as i scored my first ever senior league ton with one of these in 2002 106*

Actually owned and used all of these models before i joined the forum as i used GN pretty much exclusively from when i started until i was early 20’s

I remember walking into Owzat and asking for a big Gray Nics to match my pads and gloves (first signs of FKW) Walked out with  a Xiphos extreme, awesome bat scored lots with it. Still regret selling it on eBay :(

I had a lovely Xiphos, the whole thing was middle and very forgiving. My favourite recent GN without doubt

It's quite the brute! I think around 2.14, pings over a large area, and just feel like you could nail anything in the slot for 6. Incredible shape, the Kronos is kind of similar I guess, but doesn't quite have the imposing factor a Xiphos has. To be honest, with the way regulations are now, surprised a Xiphos-esque bat hasn't appeared! I guess we're just waiting on SS to do that. :D

Love the look of those Powerbows, Force was the first bat I ever purchased as a 15 Yr old. They look lovely and nostalgic

I was going to get a GN for my first bat when I was around 14/15 - I think the 3 star Phoenix/Longbow/Powerbow were around £120! I really wish I did now, but I went for a Purist 303 instead, as it was cheaper and all I could afford, and I preferred the shiny stickers. That bat was farrr too heavy for me. :/

This Force is quite a beast itself, just massive everywhere!

I don't think I ever saw a bad Phoenix, I had a 5 star one which I bought off a chap for £65, which broke after a few uses. Absolute gun though!

I do wonder what that same cleft would be made into today with more modern drying. I guess everything is always better through rose tinted glasses! They're still popping out some incredible bats at Robertsbridge, which I hope to share soon. :)

This one is like that too. I don't know what it is about GN, they always came up with profiles that make me go WTF (ie. Scoop, Dynadrive, Phoenix, Nemesis, Xiphos, etc etc), but it is only after they're discontinued that I appreciate just how nice they were!
