Call me a cynic, but i think it’s going to be like cricket, only shorter! At least you got a discount.

Some idiot somewhere would’ve said the same about T20 when that was launched. Fair to say the IPL is going to be considerably different to the County Championship we are going to be served up from tomorrow...

FWIW I think they’ve got the Hundred idea ‘wrong’ and have only done it in an attempt to create a unique product as they effectively missed the boat on launching a franchise competition and would forever be in the shadow of the more established leagues such as IPL & BBL if they launched now.

I think it would’ve been more exciting and unique if they adopted a T20 league structure model (franchises or counties) with the same format, but with promotion and relegation. I think that would be a USP similar to how the Championship/PL works well in football. All PL matches (maybe an 8/10 team top division) shown live 1 game a day and occasional Div 2 matches shown included playoffs and perhaps a relegation playoff. Just something diff and a new narrative, prevents dead rubbers too in top league

Pretty much agree with the above poster, not interested in the hundred myself, I prefer the traditional game and have done since I was young, then there was only 1 limited overs competition if I remember correctly until the 50 over natwest(I think) came into it...

One day and limited over cricket is  enjoyable I've been to watch one day games many times. The 2020 format is popular and I think the ECB have missed a trick by not expanding 2020 and making a franchise from those games.
The short format is here to stay and it may be that our leagues follow in the same way, in some cases they already have, from drawn games to 40 overs win or lose and incorcorporating a 2020 match in there.

I just wonder if they are now creating two formats too similar, and one of those will fizzle out.

With the popularity of 2020 you wonder if they have missed what's right in front of them to expand and widen the appeal of the short form.

We shall see I guess, as 3 formats are right now, I personally think they have covered it, and  people can choose what they like.

I think it'll be a bit like VHS and Betamax. The Hundred could turn out to be better and more interesting, but ultimately the established format will be the one that survives.

Tried to buy a season ticket for my franchise today but they’re sold out  :o

I managed to get 2 tickets for Welsh Fire v Manchester Originals. I get to see Sarah Taylor, Meg Lanning, Keiron Pollard and YJB. What’s not to like?

Kieron Pollards attitude?  :D

All jokes aside, completely agree with you and interesting that STs have sold out!

Haha - yep, that was me!  When the BBL started over here I thought it was a bastardization of 'real' cricket and refused to watch it.  Many years later after my kids got interested, I started watching and enjoying it - I even took my family to a couple games.
Love it now, just like I love a test match.

I don't understand why they couldn't do 20 overs, but I guess that's all marketing.  I'd imagine once it's established, they'll go back to 20.
I'm sure I'll follow what's going on with great interest, but have never shown any interest in following Blast games.

It will be a success, it will do wonders for your women's game,  and some of you old stick in the muds might even end up liking it!

I wish they'd spent the money on making the Blast better than the IPL and Big Bash, but if this works it could be a great thing for attracting more youngsters to the game and getting numbers up again. Together with lockdown/the pandemic, which in my experience has seen a lot of people that stopped playing cricket want to play again, it could be a great year for it!

Oval and Lord's Test matches are completely sold out. Old Trafford not far off...

Do we really expect full crowds for this tournament?? I’d imagine they’ll be limits and probably have half capacity

Would probably need a negative test or a vaccine

Believe it or not, I get bored! in the middle 10 overs, which is, /can be, as slow and dragging, as a 50 overs game, in their middle overs.
Including IPL!
I'm expecting this new format to be a big success!

Some interesting posts and does remind me of the time that T20 was announced and the skepticism about it.

I agree that its hard to see both the Hundred and the Blast lasting together and players will support the format that's most lucrative for them and provides opportunity for showcasing talent with the better players. Could the blast survive as more of a game for emerging county players?  The Fifty over FP cup feels in decline so it could be argued that this may go from the county calendar but with International one dayers continuing it would be a tough/strange call to make.

I agree ECB missed an opportunity with the Blast and guess they  thought as the horse has bolted with IPL and Big Bash leading the way they needed to do something else?

I spoke to my lads about it and their view was that they just want to watch the best in the world play cricket and love the improvisation and fast pace of the shorter formats of the game and they see it complimenting the four day county cricket/ test matches. They seem disinterested in 50 over cricket despite us being world champions

The hundred will likely prove very attractive to existing superkeen T20 fans (like many people on here I imagine) because of the big names involved. These people probably already play cricket, subscribe to sky, watch the IPL/CPL/BBL/etc and attend blast games. These are the core target market of the competition.

Unfortunately, it won't be of any interest to casual fans or kids, who won't recognise any of the "famous names", and will have very little emotional attachment to bland non-place specific names like Southern Braves and Trent Rockets.

Before anyone asks, yes I have asked all the kids in our junior section and their parents about it and there is zero interest in it.

So whether you enjoy the games or not, don't be fooled for a second into thinking that the ECB have launched this competition to make the game more attractive to the wider public. If they wanted to do that, they'd have done something completely different.

Got tickets for Northern Superchargers against the Birmingham side I think it is. I don’t particularly agree with it and care for it but intrigue got the better of me.
