Just had first practice 2xT20. Enjoyed the day but not when they hit me for 6s! 😀😀
One guy I saw after years, last I saw he was a kid, now he is hitting hard and streaming in to ball quickies! He remembered me as well when we last played together.
There were a couple of talented batsmen who were hitting 6s for fun😀

First league game of the season today and I wasn�t playing but popped along to see the lads and lost by 40 runs. Oppo scored 204/6 from 50. Excellent opening bowling spell and first change from our lads but they had a couple of decent batters middle order that took them up from 130 to 200 in last 12 overs.

In reply we were going well until the set lad in our run chase was run out terribly. And then we just ran out of steam. They had two very good spinners from watching that bowled excellent areas and length and change or pace.

We had no warm up games as last weekend cancelled so not a bad run out first off but disappointing to lose first league game of the season.

My first game next weekend as long as this weather holds

Played a friendly today, not sure the opposition knew it was a friendly however!

We had them about 50-5, instead of keeping our best bowlers on, we opened the game up. They ended up getting 160-ish.

Me and our other opener put on 45 for the first wicket in 10 overs. I was seeing it like a beach ball and made my way to 20 before nailing a cover drive about 6 inches off the ground. Unfortunately cover took a screamer just off the floor. We were 130ao in reply. They bought on a fairly rapid bowler and who kept bowling short to kids & people who hadn�t played before which I�m not sure was needed in a friendly.

On another note I felt in the best Nick I have in about 3 years. I read an article the other day on how professionals all had a similar method of watching the ball. I tried it today and it made picking up line and length so much easier. I felt like a had so much time to play shorts. Looking back, in the 4 years I�ve played I don�t think I�ve ever truly watched the ball until today. Going to be interesting to see if this makes a change to my average!

I only faced 2 deliveries only. Middled first as defensive push, next thought was there to hit, hit it, think it stopped on me or something went in the air to the point and I was walking

The article basically said that most top players don�t look at the ball until the bowler is in his load up. They essentially watch the face to gather clues as he runs in, then their vision shifts to the rough area where they expect the ball to come out. Then once released make a concerted effort to really stare at the ball. Key seemed to be to keep your eyes completely level and to smoothly shift your eyes to where you expect the release to come from as they load up. Watching the ball all the way from the run up seems to throw your eyes slightly as you�re off balance.

Or it about facing international level fast bowling method?

Not sure how you�ve come to that conclusion. I said I watched the rough release point from when the bowler was in his load up, which allowed me to keep my eyes level rather than wildly moving about as the bowlers arms do. From watching that area, you can then track the ball from their hand.

Helped me pick length up much much earlier

Played our first league game today; got a TFC a bit but we did only bowl 20 overs so!
We bowled oppo out for 108, I took a decent diving forward catch at square leg!
We then chased it down in 12 overs; game started at 12, game finished at 2-45 including 15 minutes change between innings!

Thank you. I will have a read. I really try to watch the ball especially when it is swinging but I really struggle to pick up line and length when the ball is short of a length it feels like the ball goes into some sort of blind spot and I lose it (?).

I noticed when the camera zooms in on Bairstow pre-delivery he seems to look down, as though he is glancing at where he thinks the ball may pitch. Perhaps just an idiosyncrasy of his but it has always interested me.

We had a chastening game today. I�m starting the season playing 2s to get overs and time at the crease under my belt.

Bowled out for 130 on an excellent deck, I got 18. Bowled trying to pull on length - in the nets would have been smashed but grass deck under my bat. Oppo chased in 17 overs two down, but I took both wickets. One caught slicing to point, the other stumped charging.

Had a bit of a disagreement with the opposition skipper - he kept shouting �no run� to his fielders over whatever was being called by our bats. He didn�t take too kindly when I asked him not to shout that when I was trying to call.

At Beaconsfield we have a new player sponsorship scheme, so besides being supported by Adam @Neon Cricket the head of colts has sponsored me. However his wife is not allowed to know, so we have agreed that it will officially be for Sweet William�s Legacy, a charity run by a work colleague to support those who have suffered the agony of still birth, miscarriage or early child loss.

Good game for us today Vs Cam CC

We batted first and got 276 off 39.5. I got 21 off 26 before missing a full bunger on my knee roll but not too fussed on runs as I was middling the ball and playing shots I�d play when playing well like the pull and straight drive. One of the 14 year olds played with us and got 79* and 3-fer so well happy for him.

We bowled Cam out for 176 with a decent all round effort. Last friendly vs Knowle next week and into the league stuff.

Very jealous of all of you south of the border getting a game in this weekend. I had just about the worst net of my life which has evaporated just about any enthusiasm I had for the season starting.
