Satisfying win Saturday, we had a very young side due to availability being a bit short but they played exceptionally well. Ended up bowling out the oppo for 145 and chased it 5 down - sitting 4th in the table now so in a very good position for our first year in Div 2. Today I am a happy skipper.
Which XI is it?

1st duck of the season, incredibly disappointing as the ball hit me outside the line and the wicket keeper said he appealed as a joke! the bowler didn't even appeal, Umpire sort of gave me out then didn't, then said no you're out. to say I was furious was an understatment.

Even the Oppo Captain asked me why I was out!!

We won anyway which is the main thing.......

Respect the umpires! 🙂
Many times they'll give you not out when you're actually out!
Yesterday, our keeper said that he joined me in the  appeal as my appeal was convincing, while batter was nothing less than a plumb! 😃

2nd XI, play in Wilts Div 2 - 1st XI are currently top of WEPL Prem 3. The availability issues were due to half the 2s regulars being out as opposed to the 1s taking players.

In nearly 40 years of playing adult cricket, I had never been skippered by a member of the opposite sex until Saturday afternoon when I played for a team in the Nidderdale League. The young lady in question is just 16 years old and it was fantastic to see her take her first 5 wicket haul and she's been very consistent this season because she is now the leader wicket taker in her division.

I'm afraid my contribution was minimal as I had to come off after bowling 3 overs due to a reoccurrence of an elbow injury (which now makes a funny clicking noise whenever stretch my arms) and was 0no without even facing a delivery. I have never had elbow issues until last season and I think it's the lack of indoor nets that has led to weakening of muscles. Prior to Covid-19, I would net at least twice a week and I am also finding I don't quite have the same level of control as before.

So, an unexpected call from WPCC 3rd XI captain just just in time to play the game and the rest of the season with them.
We bowled Addiscombe for 109, but then we're bowled out for 68!
Disappointed!
I was given lbw while I was on front foot and the ball hit outside the off stumps! Very disappointed again!
Bowling figures were 8-5-7-3, very pleased, thought we would win the game, but that's part of the game, hopefully we'll win next Saturday, as its very tight over there, in the league table,

Sadly our game off as we had to concede as lack of players - 3 called up to 1s last minute ended any hopes of playing. Not happy to be calling games off in July due to availability

Last Saturday I could have had at least 5 wickets!
One full toss lbw appeal turned down! I was 💯% sure umpire will give it but he said, "missing off! That batter scored those which turned out to be the winning margin!
One stumping missed, it was a low bounce chance!
And on the top, I was given out lbw when I was convinced that the ball hit me outside the line of the off stumps!
Chasing 109, we only managed 82!
Should have won that match🙄

A common theme from many people on here

1. Every time you are given LBW it was definitely not out.
2. Every time you have an LBW appeal turned down it was definitely out.

I've had to stop myself appealing from deep fine leg a few times this year, hard to break a bad habit 😂

Hahaha, Jim boy, don't stop it now!
You must be jumping every time the ball hits the pads...

Most of the time, I field at square leg or point. I only appeal if the ball hits lower than knees roll or batsman is on the back back foot.

Last Saturday our half season started. So in the morning while preparing my kit I donned my team shirt and proudly I turned to the wife and asked what she thought.

"It's a bit tight. I wouldn't wear it if I were you", was her answer. A bit of stretching of my body and my shirt was mine.

Was the football the reason?
We had 4 players say they didn't want to play because of the Ukraine match. I laughed and said the match wasn't until 8 but they weren't to be persuaded and our 2nd team had to forfeit. As it happens the game finished about 7:45 and I missed the first half.
Thankfully that's the end of the Saturday footy matches until the domestic season restarts.
