In all honesty adding a counterweight, like lead tape does improve the pickup when your bat is cocked. I did this on a low density H4L bat that was massive, exceed the bat gauge! But I thought it was a bit toe heavy. I got 2 tons after I addes the lead tape, (got the tons in friendlies) but haven't had a 50 since I sold it!
Might be about my lack of netting but try things out and get what you feel is a great pickup! May mean getting another bat, but ultimately grade and weight doesnt really matter, you are using it and you need something that feels like an extension to your body that doesn't impact the way you would play shots..
Some may think this is waffle but just my opinion.
