Hi All,

Had this bat refurbed over the winter and after about 15-20 net sessions the cracks that have been repaired have started to expand and open up again.

Looking for a couple of opinions on the best way to treat the bat and whether this will be an endless cycle of gluing every month, for seasons to come.

As well, the toe is showing a few small cracks or maybe a sign of feathering, hoping someone could clear up whether this will need attention soon too.

Not sure about the repair, but get yourself a net bat and save that salix for matches.

That is some serious damage, I'd get another professional repair job done.

Apply a full fibre scuff sheet and make sure to fully tape both edges as well. Won't look pretty but should get more life out of the bat. And as Buzz says, get yourself a net bat, especially if people don't always use good quality balls at your nets.

They look like small cracks that you can't really prise open to get PVA into, so if it was mine I'd be going with thin superglue/cyanoacrylate to try to get some penetration into the cracks, wrap / clamp any loose ones, then sand and oil as it looks pretty dry. A few wraps of fibreglass tape around the worst looking crack on the edge wouldn't go astray.

When repairing one of mine that started coming apart, I left the protective facing sheet off for a while so I could keep a closer eye on how the repairs were standing up. If it holds up, put facing and edging on - if not, get used to glueing it up, which I feel may be a likely outcome.

In my opinion this will just keep cracking. Superglue and tape will only hold a little, but worth doing regardless. However, you're just eeking out what life is left rather than getting another few seasons from it in my experience.

I would concur with Jonny

Superglue and sand the cracks is as good as a repair as your going to get with these types of cracks. Pop a fibre sheet on it and keep using it. These cracks will open up again after repairing them. But at least your get some more use from it.

Was the bat an issue as the edges from the batmaker are rolled and boned

Did you also knock it in ?

How does avoid this happening ?

Yeah, is there a specific reason why this would happen to a bat? I understand the edges are more prone to cracking but if prepared properly and oiled regularly would they still crack like this?
Maybe someone could enlighten me regarding this

Salix bats are boned and edges rounded

And it seems the cracks are the edges only batting a couple of toe ones too

The cracks are hardly small �.on the edges
