I do like AOB Custom Kicks' (Aidan O'Brien) business model, which has inspired me; I have been messaging him through social media, he is based in Colchester, Essex.

I know he has provided pre spiked trainers for Will Buttleman (Brentwood & Essex), Shane Snater (Essex), Luc Benkenstein (Essex, son of Dale Benkenstein), Ben Cox (Worcestershire), Ollie Robinson (Kent), Scott Steel (Leicestershire), Liam Patterson-White (Nottinghamshire), Matthew Critchley (Essex), Brett D'Oliveira (Worcestershire), Saif Zaib (Northamptonshire), Tom Moores (Nottinghamshire), Billy Root (Glamorgan, brother of Joe Root), Stephen Eskinazi (Middlesex), Adam Rossington (Essex), Will Smeed (Somerset), Michael Pepper (Essex) and Jason Roy (Surrey & England).

As he already has a lot of Essex players as his clientele, I wouldn't be able to persuade them through ex Chingford players of Dan Lawrence and Jamie Porter.

Completely off topic, a lot of other club members have managed to acquire kit from Essex players in particularly Dan and Jamie; however, one of our players managed to obtain a pair of Peter Siddle's Nike cricket spikes.

If you have seen/read on my other posts, I am rather a stickler for sticking with a certain brand and in my case for footwear (including football boots), I use Nike.

Nike do not sell their own version of cricket spikes in the UK but I did find that they were available on an Indian website however they did not have my size.

Having spoken to a fellow club member who had played county 2nd XI, minor counties and university cricket; they informed told me that they may have used Brian and Brenda to convert the trainers into cricket spikes; this is only speculation.

I have been speaking to another person who has been carrying out his own trainer conversion and he has provided me with some rather handy information.

I have plenty of the rubber material to create the spiked sole, I have different types of glues to bond the spiked sole to the trainer but it is just having the trainers to work on; I have another old pair of trainers that I am going to attempt.

For his "Custom Kicks"; he uses a lady based in Colchester called Yelena Yloisa.

Having spoken to a fellow club member who had played county 2nd XI, minor counties and university cricket told me that he uses Brian and Brenda to convert the trainers into cricket spikes.

When I spoke to Brian yesterday, he confirmed that AOB Custom Kicks is one of his customers.

I have been speaking to another person who has been carrying out his own trainer conversion and he has provided me with some rather handy information.

The spiked trainers fad seems to be dying out amongst pros. I think because 'shelf' shoes have improved so much. Somerset always seem to have a few pairs, as they have that Shoe Doctor place down the road in Taunton.

I collected my Nike Court Vapor Lite trainers that Brian spiked for me on Friday and I have got to admit they didn't look great, the sole wasn't flush/flat, the stitching was falling apart, the finishing between the spiked sole and the trainer was awful and gaps were appearing between the spiked sole and trainer; I did wear them Saturday and they were comfort and did the job especially with figures of 11-4-25-3 opening the bowling with off spin.

I have purchased a pair of Nike Court Air Zoom Vapor Pro from Nike as they were on special offer and I will be sending them to Cheshire Shoe Repair to spike for me.

I'd actually argue the last two years it has taken off again! Coloured kits and Asics/ Nike being easily available meaning the choices are quite limited.

Agree. I sent some for spiking and used them a little this season and they have not lasted long at all. The sole has come apart. The finishing was not great. Wonder if others have had similar experiences with trainer spiking.

I had a 4 pairs done through Owzat over the years (Brian and Brenda I believe) and had the same issue every time, not the best finish and the edge past the stitching would spilt/come apart.
My current pair were done by the Shoe Dr and the finish is 100% better. Although I’m not sure if he’s still doing them as he’s not on Twitter anymore or an option on the M&H website?

Had two Asics gel cross`s and a Puma Trinomic done by B+B in the past, not one issue, finished perfectly and never lost a stud.....had some Vapour Lite`s done for this season and ditto, tho one stud has dropped out..recommended to several of my team mates,no complaints
However,i do believe there maybe some illness in their family so bear with if you send off !

I capture a 10 second video of them to show my club mates but you cannot see in the video how they actually look. As I have previously said, I did wear them to play Saturday and as I am one of those players that puts a 110% whilst fielding, they did get rather dirty.

Take for instance Chris Gayle's footwear, he has had trainers customised and spiked for his numerous franchise cricket appearance around the world.

I find that existing standard cricket footwear are too bulky and are only manufactured by your standard cricket manufacturers (Gray Nicolls, Kookaburra, Gunn & Moore) whilst Adidas, Asics and New Balance are more renowned brands for footwear.

I have gone for the spiked trainer approach as my prefer brand is Nike as I have probably mentioned previously in other posts and that I am a brand w***e.

My first ever pair of trainers spiked were through Owzat and carried out by Brian and Brenda; the sole was leather, so they did not last long for me; I did like the black rubber shoe to my Nike Court Vapor Lite but it is just a shame about the stitching and the finish with the spiked sole attached to the trainer.  It is a shame as Brian and Brenda have run that business since 1961.

I have been carry out my own thorough research and came across the Shoe Doctor but when you go from their website to their spiking service, you are re-directed to the M&H website and it displays an error message; I can no longer find the link and there is nothing on M&H's website about trainer spiking.

I always tighten my studs/spikes as I have the bit as a drill bit so I can attach it to a screwdriver (manual or electrical). Luckily I did not show my newly spiked trainers to the customer behind me as he was there to get a pair spiked too.

According to the conversation I had with Brian, Brenda has dementia.
