He gambled - that they’d have 25+ to defend last over but the time it got that far - and lost. He knew fine what he was doing, but the 18th and 19th overestimate weren’t good enough.

Anyone criticising him should at least understand the decision making process.

With India needing 48 from the last 3 it feels like maybe the 18th was the time to get through Nawaz's over, Rauf bowls the penultimate and then you've got Afridi who always comes across as a big-moments bowler. Easy to say with the benefit of hindsight though!

Yeah, however Pandya is a pretty gun taker downer of spin, so it wasn’t that wild a thought that he (Virats ok too) might take it for 20+, and then Babar would be getting criticised for not bowling his big guns first and gambling on Nawaz’s over not mattering.

It probably would have if he’s just bowled soon and avoided all those extras.

Totally agree. If you have someone like that - you want them as a death bowler.

I would actually take it vack even further than that and say that Babar should have bowled a sixth bowler in the middle overs (or even straight after Axar got out) that way it gives him more flexibility with bowling the death overs.

Do Pakistan really have much of a 6/7th bowler option, Ifthiqar?

Fair play Ireland but Jesus that was abysmal from England. Malan 35 off 37 having batted in the powerplay?

Shame Ireland couldn’t have won it on the field, not sure they’ll mind though. The rain took the energy out of their win. It would looking like a great finale

Poor match awareness as well. They should have had one eye on the weather and DRS equations. He gave away his wicket at a really bad time. I am sure Eng would have been above par if they hadnt lost that additional wicket.

Lucky win for Ireland. I doubt they would have won if we had the full match.

England were just starting to tee off, but like you say, dismal awareness to leave it that late with rain forecast.

New coach/captain combo have a lot of work to do because they've verged on incompetence at times so far.

I think Moeen maybe a better captain than Jos...

Both Pakistan's openers gone in the power play... Time for the next upset? Small total but pressure on.
