Scott Custom Butterfly
« on: November 03, 2022, 11:23:06 AM »

Very delayed review of my new custom butterfly Scott! After spotting that Jonny had some butterfly clefts in - and being a huge sucker for a nice butterfly - I got in touch to see what kind of shape they'd make.

After a quick chat, we settled on a custom based on the Scott JS170 shape, with a shorter blade and slightly longer handle in a touch heavier weight than I'd had from Jonny previously.

What arrived is comfortably one of the nicest looking butterflies I've ever had, beautifully set off by the black/gold stickers. Also worth noting that this is the first I've had from Scott that Jonny has pressed himself and he's done a hell of a job, response was great out of the packet and is only getting better with more mallet work.

Pickup is, as I've come to expect, surprisingly good for the size and weight. Jonny really does balance out the weight of these chunky bats and I've yet to pick up a Scott that didn't feel well-balanced in the hands.

Specs wise:

- 2'12 once scuffed, toe guard added, grip swapped for a thicker one, handle knob built up with grip offcuts and edge tape added.
- Comfortably thick semi-oval handle
- Extended mid-low middle
- 38/39mm edges
- 62/63mm spine
- 26mm toe at centre
- 15mm shoulders

All around a lovely bit of willow and very much looking forward to having a hit once our indoor nets start up again!

Bit of character, stain well clear of the playing area and nice grains. I've got another lovely one from Mark at Oxfordshire but this one is at least the equal of it.

Absolutely beautiful, similar to my butterfly from Jonny that I love. Can't wait for cricket to start up again and I'm able to use it.

Great bat and nice looks

Iv seen Aldred do that finish the scuff sheet an inch or so above the toe leaving a small gap to the toe exposed

What’s the reason ?

Thanks all and pleased you're happy with it @Jimbo. Appreciate you taking the time to post a little review.

@Thamesvalley the only reason is that personally i don't like it too near the toe, as it just lifts and generally wet mud gets trapped underneath. So I've generally always prefered to leave a small gap.

Only been meaning to post it for a month now @jonny77 😂

And yeah @Thamesvalley that's why I prefer my scuff sheets as Jonny does his, always find if it's right down to the toe that you get rubbish stuck under and it rots the toe.

Nice looking bat, with the stain higher up adding some durability near the shoulders.
