Received the bat finally!!

Since GM already prepared the bat as GM NOW!, scuff sheet applied… I understand the hard pressing and oiling has been done.

Do I need to knock in similar to regular bats except oiling, any recommendations for GM prepared ones, knocking or just nets. I got Lignum Vitae mallet too.

Yeah definitely knock it in too, focus on the edges and toe as with any other bat.

Doesn't GM Now! mean it's already knocked in?

Braver man than me to trust a "pre prepared" logo on a bat that expensive!

I think of all the manufacturers the GM now is one best ignored. Loads of hits with old balls needed.

On the plus side….at the lower end of the range for GM we may be seeing bats being pressed for longevity…if that’s possible.

No one wants an iron bar to bat with but neither do you want it cracked to bits in the nets before the season.

Imagine it’s a difficult balance to get with modern bats.

Personally i think it's the dryness/lack of moisture in many modern bats where the main issues are in terms of longevity, rather than the pressing. So I wouldn't spend hours knocking it in, but maybe a little.

I personally don't spend hours knocking a bat in, as would rather play it and get the maximum value from it. If you were to knock in a bat for hours to get it to what you thought was 'optimum performance', you'd be doing a lot of knocking and potentially shortening the lifespan of the bat imo.

Unless it has a flat face, sharp edges and hasn't had the edges boned, then imo it shouldn't need that much prep. A bit of knocking to the edges, toe and some throwdowns/gentle net and off you go.

If the cleft was dry to begin with, then no amount of knocking will help prolong its life.

Jonny, the geek in me can't help itself.
2 hours of knocking with a mallet at 2 knocks per second = 14,400 knocks.
If you could face 4 balls per minute, that would be the equivalent of 60 hours in the nets.
At a game, running 3 minutes per over and you facing half the balls, that would be the equivalent of 240 hours in the middle!
At that rate it would take me many years to 'knock in' a bat :)

You certainly buck the trend as a batmaker - most would be encouraging people to wear their bats out with knocking in so they could sell more bats!  When I think of it your way, we are certainly draining a lot of life expectancy out of our bats by knocking them in, but if I didn't my bats would last forever and I wouldn't have an excuse to buy another one.  :D

What moisture content percentage would you suggest, below which, you would consider it too dry?
