Welcome back Jofra.. ENG VS SA
« on: January 27, 2023, 10:18:17 AM »

Quick thread for the Eng SA odi series.

Should be fun.

JJ Roy needs runs.
I am keen to see how Harry Brook goes as he may take Roy's place at the top of the order.

Also Jofra will play 2 of the games.

As for SA, they are a mess batting wise and don't even have a coach.
Bowling is good though.

Pitches will be roads...

Looks like Roy, Malan, Duckett, Brook, Buttler, Ali, Curran, Willey, Rashid, Archer, Stone for England today.

Expect all 14 players to feature across the 3-match series

From what I’ve seen of Roy last summer in the Hundred, recent franchise games etc I just can’t see how he can be in the team!

Im a big fan of his, but there is clearly a total lack of form and confidence, he even finds weird ways to get himself out when he does make a start.
And there are so many other players/options right now!

Roy selection is absolutely beyond me, Jacks has been so good and adds an option with the ball.

Roy deserves the chance to regain form, even though he's astonishingly out of nick. Plus realistically Malan is probably looking in pole position to open with Bairstow with Root obviously coming back at 3. Jacks will get a go in the summer you'd imagine, could be competing with Dawson or even Rehan for the backup spinner spot at the WC.

How many chances are they going to give him though? He's been in shocking nick for a long, long time now.

They won't be able to pick test players for the Bangladesh series, so 6 lol. Can't blame England for wanting him to come back into form, he was arguably the most important batsman for England in the last WC campaign.

Not sure SA have anything like enough here...

I can understand why you'd want to give him time when you know what he's capable of when in form.

Just think they're maybe missing a trick not selecting a player in Jacks who looks like he's capable of the same super-fast starts and big aggressive innings, but is in great form and would benefit from the experience.

Maybe Jacks would have scored a match winning 150 in Roy's place 😂 joys of speculating on hypotheticals.
