Yet more new England kit...
« on: April 12, 2023, 09:44:04 AM »

Seems Castore's first effort wasn't well received, so they have released yet another new lot of kit.

the prices are eye watering.

the kit also looks really good.

the reversable brimmer is my fave bit of kit in ages.

https://shop.ecb.co.uk/collections/23-24-odi-collection?_kx=Np5lLUioZrRf1gLcZl59RXd04RjrS6yTMNBp2LXNIT0%3D.RKpu3w

hopefully the forum sponsors will have some in stock soon.

Am expecting there to be a new t20 kit coming too - likely with the red and blue colourways swapped.

£45.00 for a junior training t-shirt. Yet more proof of just how out of touch the ECB are with the public.

Has it ever been suggested for the England ODI and T20 kit to have a world cup winner Gold Star on the badge?

That could be an excuse to add another £10 to the RRP

Prices going the way of football replica kit, absolutely ludicrous and preying on fans to squeeze every last penny out of people who just want to follow their team. Grim.

Wasn't there blurb from ECB and Castore when they announced partnership together of how affordable the kit will be!?  Just a joke. Noit juist them though....bought son the T20 Kent shirt last year and yep, another new shirt this year for £50 a pop

No doubt mate, this is the sort of thing that really frustrates me. Yes Castore is at the higher end quality wise, but production costs are still peanuts compared to these RRPs. Someone is making some serious margin on the kit at the expense of the fans/club players the game relies on.

They know with it being an Ashes summer they'll sell bucket loads so can just charge what they like. My £720 bill for 6 Edgbaston tickets, which for the exact same seats (literally the same seats/day) was barely £400 last year...

We peaked with the 2019 ODI kit, and will never get such highs again. Shame.

It is a real shame that the fans are the ones who have to fork out more seemingly every year.

I did see the most recent (or maybe 2021) New Balance ODI kit on sale for around £20 in many places.

Those white trousers look alright. Thanks for the link

Castore did indeed say that they would be selling the kit at a lower price point than is normal

https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/england-cricket-kit-castore-ecb-new-balance/?zephr_sso_ott=OwxHfA#:~:text=UK%20sportswear%20brand%20Castore%20has,%2434.6%20million)%20over%20ten%20years.

£2.5m per year does seem a lot to pay for a deal to supply cricket and training wear.

Sadly it does seem a missed opportunity to grow the reach and exposure of the game by restricting the number of people who will be walking around in the kit

There was an Athletic article about Castore last month. It touched on the different commercial arrangements it has with football clubs compared to your Nikes, your Pumas and your Ponys.

"Castore’s agreements, however, are more incentivised in structure, with the club receiving a higher royalty percentage as agreed revenue targets are hit. Put simply, the clubs who sign with it have an opportunity to significantly increase their earnings as more shirts and other branded apparel are sold."

Do we know if ECB are on a similar deal? If so then the price of the gear might be reflective of revenue targets that both parties want to hit.

Here's the link to the article (paywall obvs.) https://theathletic.com/4342029/2023/03/26/castore-disruptors-kit/
