WTC final
« on: June 08, 2023, 09:31:28 AM »

No topic for this, couldn't believe it!

Looks a bit like India have made a poor call at the toss, possibly partly due to picking the extra seamer? The Oval not exactly a traditional bowl first ground.

Ashwin must have really peed off the Indian management.
Just mental that they left him out and bowled first. Terrible decision.

Anyway Aussies batted OK. I think they have left runs out there.

Indian bowlers looked a bit short of a proper gallop.

Very good hundred from Travis Head

The 'green' pitch fooled India into dropping Ashwin and also bowling first. Having said that, Aus really did bat well and survive the tough phases. Surely, Aus are favorites after that 1st innings score.

What I cannot understand is the choice of venue. Why do they need to play in Eng? Ideally a home/away 2 match series would be more appropriate. If the same match was being played in SL, would Aus still have the advantage?

Aus are in the UK due to the Ashes and the IPL goes on for so long this is the only window for the match, and logistically then it has to be in the UK.
I would say the Oval is a good neutral venue.
Top pitch with loads of local Indians and Aussies.

Not sure of how much relevance it is really, but Surrey won their last two champ games at the Oval having won the toss and fielded.

I’m often surprised how often teams look at the pitch and seem to rule out overhead conditions. There may of been some movement from India’s seamers but warm dry sun and test quality batsmen is bat first.

A bit ominous for our test matches Smith and Head look on form.

For this game I just think they got the toss wrong and how Ashwin is left out again is baffling.

Second day has shown up the difference in quality of the pace attacks, India's seamers just aren't top level (in English conditions).

Bumrah not being there is a big miss.
The other issue is this is too close to the IPL and the players aren't ready for test cricket.

Think that session has shown how easily you can rattle Australia - really poor with the ball. Cummins getting another wicket cum no-ball then throwing away a review says it all

So many balls hitting the batsmen on the hands/gloves. Cant remember the last time a pitch was like this!

Waiting for the clip on bbc text. The only still image on their now looks out. Fingers between turf and ball.

However it’s only one angle
