I expect Foakes will be called for India so he misses the biggest series against the Aussies. Flipper the seal continues and I understand loyalty but where is it for Ben.

It�s a good job Rehan has not played yet because keeping standing back is straightforward for a pro bit standing up when it turns is a different game altogether.

Before anyone posts Bairstow haters on again he should be in the team as a batsman. He�s got some credit in the bank for sure

Cheaper than that bought in volume for sure. They're not bad caps tho tbf. Is imagine they've been caught out but demand and are backfilling with anything they can get quickly

Mo confirmed batting 3. Not ideal but short term think that was the only option. Brook needs to settle in to a role at 5.

I just hope we take our chances this match.

I'm not sure about that. Bairstow should have been at 3, putting Moeen there is brave at best. At least YJB is a proper recognized batsman.
Obviously I want Foakes in if Bairstow is at 3 but he is busy being messed around by the England management as always.

Woakes would seem far too vulnerable against the short ball up at 3 for me. He looks far from comfortable sometimes against the quick, short stuff. Shows the value of a true allrounder. If Stokes could bowl some serious overs it would balance the side much better.

Mo will have the same problem with the short stuff that�s why he�s not a top order player at this level so England are a bit goosed either way.

Bairstow at 3 plus keeping looks a tall order, he just does not have a tight enough game.

But you are right Stokes bowling is sooo key to getting an extra player in.

As soon as he knew bowling was going to be tough Foakes was ruled out of the series and he said himself they are picking a side based on him not bowling.

Despite all the above it could be 2-1 to us not to them if we had taken the chances we created. But they are up and we desperately need a win at OT.

I am backing Anderson to play a blinder on what will be his last Ashes at home.

There is no evidence that Woakes can't play the short ball.
People said the same about Foakes. Also nonsense.

Bairstow can't keep and bat three. A full fit and in form and not keeping Bairstow isn't really a number 3.

So someone has to put their hand up.

Root... Needs protection a bit as Cummins has his number at the moment.
Brook... Maybe one day, but not yet.
Stokes... Seems reluctant, but could do it, I think.
Mo... Has been handed the job.
Woakes... Probably too high for him, but I think he will score more runs at 3 than Mo.
Wood... Yes. The real Bazball choice.

Stokes can hardly walk so can�t bat three. Also vulnerable against the short ball

Mo for 3.
There is no suitable choice but I dont think batting 3 will mess with his head. If he fails it wont impact is bowling or his test future, as he has none. I admire that he is happy to take one for the team. Best 'sacrifice' someone if it means Root and Brook are not worrying about stuff and play up to standard. Now and for the next 5 years.
Sounds crazy re a Test No.3 but its where we are.
