Yes but slightly sad as well. Time moves on for every old player with so much short form cricket the older commentators were always going to be shifted out. He mentions Hussein and Atherton but they are as good commentators as they were players.

Gower was not a great commentator but was a far far better player.

Def the most stylish player I have seen for England. Perhaps his middle class which he was always tagged with did not sit right for the audience Sky want.

Personally I have always thought it is a reverse snobbery to dislike someone because of their upbringing, schooling and the fact they like champagne.

He played spin and pace equally well and average above 40 in tests. Against some of the bowling attacks then that is better than good.

He doesn't come across very well in that interview. Laced throughout with a sense of entitlement.

I can fully understand why you would be disappointed when the broadcasting gig comes to an end because it gives every appearance of being a very enjoyable way if earnings a living. But he was very lucky to to it for as long as he did. For all he belitting of those now doing it, he was very poor at it himself and a tedious presence in the commentary box who seemed to go on air with the absolute minimum of preparation

Personally always rated Gower as a commentator and it’s been great to hear him occasionally when covering series in Pakistan and the West Indies.
A relaxed, calming style- just like his batting and think he should be in the Sky test match team . Appreciate 100, T20 etc is not his bag.

Gower was very funny on ' they think it's all over '

I rate him, bumble, hussein holding and Atherton very highly as commentators
