Charlie French RIP
« on: June 24, 2024, 11:00:24 PM »

Unsure if this has been posted but I just learnt this by googling:

https://www.trentbridge.co.uk/news/2024/march/in-memoriam-charlie-french.html

Really sad news, as I've posted previously best bat I ever had was made by Charlie, I gave it to a friend and have been trying to get it back so someone can copy it for me.

Remember I had a meeting nearby and I fortunately didn't succeed in fighting my urges to go visit and buy a bat. Don't think he was expecting anyone visiting at the time but took time out and politely showed me around and helped me choose my cleft, and also happily let me choose his limited edition stickers even though it wasn't.

RIP Charlie.

Gutted to hear this!

Charlie couldn't do enough for you when you spoke to him.

The bat he made for me is now my nephews net bat and still goes like (No Swearing Please)!  One of the best bats i've owned, was out of a pile he put aside for Jake...

He passed around the same time as Duncan Fearnley - might have even been the same day. RIP - I never had the pleasure of speaking with Charlie, but from what I've heard he was a gent and a club stalwart, and from what I've seen an excellent batmaker.
