Why don’t they just sand it down instead of using the tape?

So - how do we combat 'spinmageddon' in the final test?

i) Simply bat better / longer with a combination of Bazball and Rootism?

ii) Back the same XI to do better and hope Pakistan balls this one up?

iii) Pick 3 spinners and trust Stokes to be one of the seamers?

iv) Drop Bashir (harsh) for Ahmed and use Root / Leach to offer a little more control?

It surely needs a bit of thought from the brains trust to give us a chance of winning - we can't give away the sort of deficit we did in the last test and expect to come out on top.

I am not sure there is much point over thinking team selection if the game is played on a pitch decided by the toss.

Atkinson for Potts would be my selection

this all feels a bit dubious from the Pakistan team. I agree, the first test was a road of roads but the toss didnt define it. both teams batted the same amount of time in their first innings. to then use a day 11 pitch and that span that much bordered on desperation and a reaction to being skittled after fielding for a day and a bit.

Now we are seeing them aggressively trying to turn a traditional green road into a dustbowl again. hopefully the toss deoesnt decide this match

i am all for using conditions to your advantage but there is a line to which it becomes a joke, granted we should have taken better/more spinners to combat it.

tracks are green in the UK (other than the oval) so play seamers and batting can be tough for the first 2 days
similar in NZ and SA
in Oz they are fast and bouncy, so pick your best quicks and a good spinner so you can rotate.
indian tracks spin, but they also carry pace early in a test so seamers are useful.

Pindi is a road by all accounts, so i am in favour of them leveling the balance between bat and ball. but not to the point where losing the toss will almost guarantee you cannot win the game because its ragging square on day 2

for the record, i would be just as against it if england intentionally grassed/greened up a track beyond the point an opposition could compete as well.

To be fair if England had taken their chances in that second innings they way well have won the 2nd test, despite the toss.

The toss influenced nothing in the second match.
The Poms bottling it from 2-211 to 291 all out.
Against two very mediocre Pakistani spinners.

I agree mate. Load of stat padding shelf stackers if you ask me! 😄

Dropped chances, poor first innings collapse and a turning pitch meant we were doomed going into the last innings. Can't blame Pakistan for producing that type of pitch too imo. You pay to your strengths and the oppos weaknesses.

There was a mention that the two pak spinners were average last week

They are both very good

Lol.

Two journeymen spinners that averaged closer to 40 per wicket before they met the unskilled poms.

Ollie Pope:
Tests: 52
Average: 34.12 (it’s actually 32.11 when that meaningless 200 against Ireland is removed)

Get back to Asda and stack selves.
