Help removing glue and cleaning bat face?
« on: April 13, 2010, 07:42:39 AM »

Sorry to bring up an old topic but I cant find a solution to removing gum from the bat face. There is so much sticky stuff on the bat face after removing the scuff sheet and edge tape.Tried sandpaper but this leaves black marks on the face!
What is white spirit and surely this will damage the willow? Any ideas chaps as this is becoming a nightmare? :(

white spirit should work and wont damage the blade, one thing i found that works every time, but requires a drum sander - i remove the sandpaper from it and just go over the bat with the hardened foam drum, this picks up all the crap without damaging the blade at all.
Another alternative - send it to me and i'll refurb it for you.

Thanks Silly,
If  lived in England it would be a doddle but sadly I live in Spain ;)
What is white spirit, is it nail polish remover? The glue is leaving black marks now which is not cool.
Thanks for the advice bud.

White spirit is aka Turps, found that it does a great job and simply remove the excess with some clean sandpaper.

I think it does both, although my DYI skills are far from renowned, or practiced!

A decent electric power sander works well and is very quick and they are very cheap.
