at the end of the day he is, in my opinion, the best batsman of the modern era, and would love to see him wave the willow just a few more times!

whatching Lara at his peak taking apart the Austrailian attack (when it was at it's peak) around 2001 was very special. The thing is that was a long time ago...

Lara is playing in the domestic Zimbabwe T20 alongside Ryan Sidebottom.

Perhaps in hope of getting an IPL gig if all goes well.

Reading Herschelle Gibb's views on the IPL it seems that when you are no longer able to play at the highest standard you can always play on for a few years in it. What odd's on Botham having a look at maybe a 2 year deal? Do you think it is the desire to test yourself or the cash that brings the greats out of retirement?

If i was a pro id rather go out at the top than simply slide down the talent scale...Alan shearer style! bow out with your head held high rather than knocking around the scene....fair enough money will be a incentive but pride hasa factor

I think you are right but then a player such as Lara must be a little green with envy watching Pollard hit a quickfire 30/40 and earn many times what he did.

We are not talking about any damm good cricketer but probably one of the greatest of the modern era,In his pomp he would have been incredibly well paid and he has endorsed all put before him.He would be a millionaire many times over so I dont believe that its about the money. Kieron Pollard on the other hand is ALL about the money.I think Laras playing for the love of the game and most of all to see if he still has it? Personally I think its all a big mistake as he left at the top with nothing but respect from the fans.

Completely agree with you there Previn; but this isn't the first I've heard of a lara return-there was talk he was going to Surrey last year..

I cant see Lara getting an IPL deal giving his ICL appearances. Plus i dont think he'd quite be as headline as he was back in his pomp (despite as many people have all ready said, he is probably in the top 2 batsmen of the modern era)

The impression i got from Lara's interview with cricinfo was that his potential return is much to do with the fact that t20 excites him and he never got to play it at the highest level during his career. So its a new challenge and its a chance for him to explore something new and help out younger players in the process.

Even if it has been 3 years since he played cricket professionally or internationally it wouldn't take much for him to get back in to it, after all what's a little bit of rustiness for the best batsman of the modern era and perhaps of all time?

In addition to that, IPL would be perfect for him to play a Shane Warne style role for 2-4 years

with talk of a return from Brian and Warney not ruling out a comeback they must think times have got easier if they can still cut the mustard after a prolonged period out of the game!
