I agree that we should start with anderson, but we all know how average hw can be in non swinging conditions and yes that is the team I think that will start.

I watched all 5 days at edgbaston 09 from the pavillion, so had a decent view of the turn. Ok maybe hauritz will take a few wickets in the first couple of test but I think the England team will soon work him out.

No onions is out for the forseeable future, back operation(s)

Will Onions be fit?

I don't think so - didn't he just have surgery on his back or something?

I'd take an experienced Anderson over Shazhad. He's just not good enough! And Hauritz is a better spinner than 99% of people give him credit for. Steve Smith can barely turn the ball, he doesn't get a lot of spin on his topspinners, and from what I saw he perennially bowls short deliveries... I'll pass on him thanks!

As an Aussie, they're likely to pile on the runs so would rather have Smith who may go for a few more runs but will take wickets. Shazhad ONLY IF ANDERSON IS POOR.

Couple of good points knocking around here.
It will be a massive test for us out there. Anderson has to take a lot of responsibility because the back up seamers we have at the minute are not good enough, Shazhad is nowhere near a test match bowler.

Swann could have a massive impact I think but in equal measure my jury is out on Broad. He comes across as mentally naïve and petulant, he could be found out in Aus.

I think our batting will be fine, it'll be won and lost on how our bowlers perform.

England hedging their bets on will Swann won't pay off. I'm recent times Kumble has been the most successful overseas spinner, 49 wickets @ 37, which isn't great. Other spinners have struggled, Murali (being the best of all time averages 70 per wicket), Harbhajan(similar average to Murali, but gets picked as he owns Punter), Vettori, Kaneria & Ajmal.

Going into Gabba I wouldn't be surprised if Australia went in with 4 seamers. Gabba offers the most swing and seam. Also Ponting has said his 3 front line seamers are Johnson, Siddle & Hilfenhaus.

Steven Smith is way behind Hauritz. Smith isn't certain to get a gig in India, so why would he play in Australia?

No Colly in the test team? He was the only player to get any runs in the whitewash last time we were out there.

That's a very controversial team, what's just been said is entirely true IMO...

prior doing nothing?
check his stats in this seasons 40 over and t20 sussex games.
My first pick would have been sidebottom for the t20s....
Did you see the way Collingwood batted today and since the Bangladesh games?
Did you watch adams at all this season in the t20s?

no, I think that in order to take on the aussies in their own back yard I think we don't want to be bland and boring.

We need to take the attack to the aussies, not so much in style of play but as in team selection etc, we need not to be the typically meek englishman, again metaphorically not literally
