Weight Reduction.
« on: September 20, 2010, 05:40:27 PM »

Evening all,

I recently got a new bat thanks to Mike, and it is amazing!
It is a really sublime bat but unfortunately is a little too heavy for me, it currently weighs 2lb 12.8 but that is with my custom grip set up that adds 3 ounces.
I would like to get the bat down to 2lb 10/10.5 with all the trimmings on, so that would be a reduction of 2.5/3 ounces.
The bat is a big one and I would like it if it could still have a meaty profile.

So my question is this, who would be the best batmaker to do this for me? Price is not so much an issue, I just want the best to be done for the bat as it really is something special!

Thanks

I doubt you could keep the bat as big as it is by removing that amount. Maybe if you play around with different grip combo's then it may pick up a bit better. I assume its a Talisman you have bought.

The bat is very big currently and has very litte concaving so I was thinking maybe if it was reduced in size a little and concaved it would be a fair bit lighter. And it is a Newbery made by Tim Keeley, but it has Talisman stickers.

Still after a weght reduction, was thinking either SAF or Redback based on experience as batmakers. Who else would you guys reccomend?

Warsop do a pro job, but costs a bit considering you can get cheaper jobs elsewhere.

I am doing a refurb of my solitaire at the moment. I have new stickers ordered, will be regripping it and putting on a toe guard. The only prob is that I would like the bat to be a bit lighter so does anyone know if you could do a Diy job on it. My brother is a carpenter so i have the tools

Just a warning, its not as easy as it looks/sounds. Its a very technical job, and after 4 years of doing refurbishments, I have only been confident enough to do weight reductions in the last couple of months.
