V12 versus V12
« on: October 07, 2010, 12:54:39 PM »

Was looking at the V12 that's currently available. Such a pity it isn't redolent of the good old hunk of wood that was originally the V12....

the original V12 was designed by Richard Wensley when he was cheif bat maker at slazengers way back in the very late 70's, the toe shape that the bat had when sold was not the original design for this bat but was brought in as it emphsised the lump on the back of the bat. I was in his workshops in wakefield one day its roughly about 10 years ago now and there were 2 old kitbags full of bats, he showed me them all, they were the original samples of the bats he designed in the 70's and he was goin to sell them for 20 quid a bat, in my stupidity i never bought any, some of these designs that were developed 30 years earlier ended up in his own range of bats under the monarch and RW and later Warrior branding. Dickie retired from batmaking 2 years ago having racked up over 50 years of bat making. I had him make all my bats for 15 years and never got a bad one they all went like rockets.

I used to have a V12 Club polyarmoured bat . . .back in the day.
I can honestly say that it was one of the best bats i ever had. They should bring back some retro bats from the 80's. I remember Alan Lamb with his V12, Im sure that Sachin used to use one too.

I don't really remember who used them, just that I thought they looked good.  Didn't go as well as my mates Dynadrive though.
