Lancashire CCC & The county championship 2011
« on: October 13, 2010, 06:42:32 PM »

Well after another quite frankly shocking season it looks as if Lancashire continue to bury their heads in the sand. Neither the batting or bowling are strong enough and the overseas debacle last season was quite frankly a joke but still no signs of any quality coming in in either department. I'm a stanch Lancashire fan but im pretty disappointed that we are falling as far down the pecking order as we have and looks set to continue.

Without Chaps lancashire are poor and unfortunately he ain't getting any younger and injury rules him out of playing too much cricket, we have some talented spinners coming through but apart from that we have nothing especially the batting department. The likes of Warwickshire, Surrey, Sussex and Yorkshire look to be the progressive clubs. So with this in mind who will take the honours next season in the championship and one day Formats.

Lancs have seemed to struggle more and more the last 2 seasons and it's a shame as they produced some top players over the years. I am a Yorkshire man so will have to say championship to Yorkshire. One day trophy... Well Somerset will no doubt be a strong outfit as will Hampshire I think. Can't see Warwickshire carrying as strong a side again in 2011 but you never know. The one day format is Anyones really.

Warrickshire are after signing Younis Khan and William Porterfield so there is plenty of batting to replace Bell and Trott

Those would be awesome signings if they got the contracts sorted. I really enjoyed watching Warwickshire in the 40s this year. Didn't get tired of Ian bells numerous brilliant knocks either. He's a different class.

Good young leggie coming through the ranks called Mo Abid. Tall, good action and control. I have played with/against him and he's very good.

Lancs are in a sad state in all forms, we rely heavily on Chaps and winning any Champ games that Anderson is available for at the start of the season. One day/T20-wise it seems a long time ago that we had Loye, Law, Hodge and Symonds blazing a trail at the top of the order.

With the Point we are having to cut our cloth, but the talent coming through seems to stagnate as players, particularly batsmen, find their way blocked by consistent underperformers. The players that have been brought in either from counties or as overseas have largely disappointed so what money is going spare has been wasted on older guys with little/nothing left to prove.

Lancs probably have to be prepared to take a step backwards before going on. Its a step in the right direction to release Sutton and give the gloves to Cross, but we need to be more proactive and prepared to sink or swim with the guys who have been sat twiddling their thumbs for too long.

what like brownie and such

the reason Lancs sign mainly Southern based Batsman is due to the conditions up North

A step back is proberble but when did Lancshire last produce a top top quality batsman we struggle because of the weather and pitches...

Boris is coming to a end possible last season before he calls it a day and fair play since we played together it shows how good you have to be to make it..

Interesting you mention Law i would put him in with Cork old players in the end we did not want or need both quality in there day but both should have been shown the poor earlier

anybody wants to make it Boris was scoring 100,s at the age of 14/15 not bad for a bowler...

Lancs have 3 or 4 players who could break through but i suspect they will sign outsiders again

Interesting points on the wickets and developing batsmen pro... its noticeable that more players from the Cheshire plains are getting time in the middle for the 2ndXI as they are raised on better batting wickets. Warren Goodwin played a lot of 2s last year and guys like Bentley and Tipper (who is hopefully fine after his car crash) are Cheshire players.

yes chesire wickets are better places like bowden and the liverpool comp too have some belters too but the real heartland like The Lancashire League with the Northern/Central...

best wicket in the area in my eyes though is Netherfield and that more Northern..

Tipper and Bentley you think they have a chance of making it....

Tipper i sure i saw him sponsored by somebody a picture somewere in a cricket magazine
