Ayrtek Scoop Limited Edition
« on: October 21, 2010, 12:46:17 PM »

During my day off of sixth form today I got a little bored and wanted to pass some time. I wanted to make my old Ayrtek bat a little different for indoor use so I started trying to reshape it into a GN T20 sort of thing, then I got a bit excited and thought about the GN Scoop so low and behold I turned my Ayrtek into an Ayrtek Scoop. The finishing is pretty poor but you get the idea that there is now a massive chunk missing from the back of the bat.

Enjoy/Despair....

Colesy, I think the Podshavers should be worried, It is an interesting try, However you might want to get the sand paper out, or wait until bonfire night and chuck it on there ;)

Bat repairs is looking from some second hand bats - he might be interested ;)

Colesy - you really have done a great job of the scoop, I am sure it will really help the ping.

You can't see it in the pics but there is 4 rows of tape keeping the shoulder attached to the bat. and there is a massive crack running up the blade so not useable with a proper ball lol, although saying that it still has a pretty decent middle :D

Lol passed some time....

Didn't want to go near the other two bats though for the fears of completely ruining them! One's my match bat and the other is a team mate's that I might use for nets...

Don't think there are any mate, Gray Nicholls did a Scoop back in the 80s (?) and I failed at replicating it lol. Just something to do.

I thought the gn claimed  the scoop allowed for better balance, while not effecting the middle. It went something like they pressed and made the wood more dense on the back, so the scooping had little impact on the performance, just a weight improvement. I also remember something about "Parimeter redistribution" where GN claimed they had moved the wood towards the edges. I guess Leo's GN T20 bat is an example of what they might of done first, then scooped a bit of wood of the middle for improved pickup. I played with my fathers back in the late eighties and it didn't play worse/better than any other bat as I recall.
