He smacked the aussies all over the place two tours ago down under under. And he is still a class player and the best captain in world cricket.

He is a great captain, and when he gets his batting right, he looks top drawer.

How can Gilly be a better batsmen than Hayden?
Without Hayden, Gilly would not be able to play his risky shots.. Hayden is the rock for me

Best batsmen would be one who performs in TESTS, Odi's, t20's (in that order)?

Stats time?

this is hard to judge as hayden was probably one of the best if not the the best opener of all time. gilchrist changed the opening batsman in ODI's and was the most prolific keeper in history in Odi's and tests. gilchrist created a new batting style. hayden had a highly modified one. hayden brought charging the fast bowler into new stead. gilchrist bought back the live-by-the-sword die-by-the-sword. they both hit what there was to hit. both scored rapidly.

In having said all this i think gilchrist wasn't nessecarily the 'best' but changed the game the most. had he not been around people like mcullum of NZ would be harrased by media and former players alike with their styles. I don't neccesarily think that 'best' should be decided runs or averages. but whose to say that it isn't.

Haydan is right up there with the best of all time but not the best. That for me would be Len Hutton. Anyway agree with all your second paragraph sambo.

Gilchrist changed the game the most of any indivudal that has ever played.  he made swinging the bat at the top of the innings the norm, however the biggest thing was having a strike rate of 100+ most innings changed the scoring rate of test cricket.

His sportsmanship has changed the modern game with the win at all costs approach softened in the 2003 WC semi final when he walked.

How many people have followed suit with walking though? not many i bet. Also Gilchrist alone didn't change the rate that test runs are scored at as many people still score at under 50. They have increased but that is because of odi and 2020

But knowing Sangakkara he would walk of his own accord rather than because another player made it acceptable, it has nothing to do with Gilchrist in my opinion

So 1 person really proves gilly changes the game in that respect when Sangakara is the sort of guy who plays fair anyway.

not sure any of them are great? Bell has the best technique so i voted him, although i'd rather have Hayden in my team. As for Collingwood, that's a joke!
