What would you do if you were the Australian selectors?
« on: December 07, 2010, 10:11:23 AM »

As widely noticed, dodgy left arm spinners and poor batting form, not too mention not much pace in the "pace" attack have caused a few issues.

If you were the selectors, with the benefit of hindsight, what would your starting 11 for the series have been?

p a n i c

David Hussey should get selected ahead of North - I wouldn't be picking Hughes, but it appears he is a nailed on certainty. I also wouldn't pick Steve Smith as a specialist spinner, he will get masachered - they have to pick Hauritz, but Ponting hates him... Bowling wise - Siddle and Harris play - Hilfenhaus will be back too.

So glad we don't have these issues...

The problem is that the current state of Australian cricket is the selectors fault.

Having won the past 3 world cups and dominating world cricket for at least 10 years the selectors have been caught napping while that talent pool was tapering off

There are players in local cricket that would be a hell of a lot competitive than this Australian XI namely Brad Hodge and David Hussey just to name a few but the selectors will not entertain this nor Ricky Ponting the arrogant little rat.

So my prediction of an England win 6 months ago by 3-1 looks pretty safe.

Cameron White would come in for North & Hauritz in for Doherty if I were them.

Out - Katich, North, Doherty, Bollinger and Siddle.

In - Hughes, White, Cameron, Copeland and Stuart Clark.

Punter has no faith in any spinner, so Stuart Clark would do the containing job. Cameron adds firepower. Copeland is statistically the best bowler in OZ

Would be good to hear any Aussie opinions to see if there are any players out there pushing the current xi as they are not cutting it

Out - Katich
In - Hodge (to open, dont give Swanny another lefty!)
Out - Doherty
In - not so sure, how has Beau Casson done this season? Or pick another batsman (Hussey) and use Clarke and North as the spin option.
Ideally, get Shane out of retirement and bring back Gilly

The reason they will not picjk that young seamer is that he bowls inaccurate balls at mid seventies.

i didnt think he looked that bad.... granted he may not bowl 90mph. but i doubt he would weaken the aussie bowling attack

Hazlewood has only just returned from stress fractures on his back, coupled with he's only played 6 F/C games, so he'd be a wildcard.

More likely selection would be Mitchell Starc, but he has a side strain.

The woes of Oz lol
