If a customer was 2 ask for a 'pro' bat would you supply one?

yes, if there was a suitable cleft around. the argument for not officially selling them is so someone doesn't buy one and you find you can't service the order.

All the blackcat bats I've seen look big for the weight so on those grounds wouldn't u say most/all your bats are fit for a pro?

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

naturally low density clefts (true 'pro clefts') are very light, but have the same moisture content as a normal cleft.  over drying would make a very light cleft, but would have a lower moisture content.  naturally low density clefts are very rare, hence why there aren't many about.  I used one last season, I play a fair bit, but it lasted me half the season, went like a rocket though.  It was ok for me as I have my own willow etc etc, but I would have sold that bat for about £300- there aren't many people out there that would spend that on a bat that lasts a few months.

Now we're getting somewhere. Does anyone know about the exact science that can allow a piece of wood with the same moisture content to weigh less than an identical sized piece of the same species?

Yes, that is a weighted question. Anyone brave enough?

I have sold stock bats to professional players yes. If you show almost any modern bat to someone who was playing 50 odd years ago, they've never seen a bat so big, even in the hands of a pro.

If pros bats only last say half a season, or even a season at tops, how come tendulkars bat has lasted so long?

It is a generalisation we are guilty of. Being 'pro' quality doesn't guarantee a short life but it does reduce the chances of longevity.

As has been said, the likelyhood is a pro will use his bat far more during the season than you or I, so I'm not sure it is as clear cut as some would have us believe.

At the end of the day a batmaker doesn't want his bats returned because they break quickly.
