My mate has the 808 pads, so I will try them on for size.

My dad has the original lite gloves from a few season back which are the same design as the d30 and feel good.

I've got £140 at my disposal so want to treat myself, can regroup some money by selling my kook softs.

I had a pair of last years GM LE pads but they felt a little big so sold them on.

I might just drive up to Taunton tomorrow.

Sorry I am a bit late on this guys, but I too would be inclined to say get the best possible gloves and decent pads. Maybe 707/808 Pads and Original L.E. Gloves, thoughif you are treating youself like you say I guess then go for TOTR best that you can get (ie. 909 D30 Pads - are they better than Original L.E. and Cheaper...? and Original L.E. Gloves...!)
Hope that helps mate, look forward to hearing what you go for in the end!

i also think it depends how long you ar elikely to keep them, if its new pads and gloves every year then go cheaper, if you wear them til they are knackered then go totr!

Right, drove up to taunton today.

Tried on 909 d30 and 909 pads. Both horrible! The mean where a little big on me and they didn't wrap around well.

Tried on LE and 909 d30 gloves as well but didn't like them!

Tried on a load of other gear and came away with some 2011 puma iridium 5000 gloves

Don't really like the look of the d3o pads this season, the designs look like they were let loose with a set square after several sherbet sticks.
