Joda sports monthly payment scheme
« on: February 27, 2011, 07:30:29 PM »

Just seen that Joda are accepting a pay monthly scheme to sell bats to customers. I can't decide wether or not this is a good idea or if anyone else has come accross this with other brands?

Seems a good idea tbh but looks desperate for sales by doing so bit of a double edged sword

Well I was thinking it could grab a lot of sales but would be a risky thing to do unless they are going to credit check every applicant?? Hmmm

Yeah I've seen that. The bats are from hawk, not sure on the softs etc but they are shouting a lot about the brand. No gentle advertising, may ruffle a few feathers.

Sounds like they are trying to get sales. I don't know if I'd ever take up a offer like that, a cricket bat is a bit too trivial to potentially get into financial issues for.

No doubt Jon. It looks good for people who way that sort of thing but desperate on their part. They were giving away a bat if Ireland won or if England won today. Seems a bit 'in your face' with the advertising as well

i said this about 6 months ago the market is very saturated indeed i have said a big brand will go bang in the next 18 months

I think more localized brands have seen a upturn though with many people supporting there local brands through local leagues

Similar to masuri once over you had 2 real choices of quality for a helmet them and Albion.

Now many brands produce quality products in helmets

I agree, so many small brands about now. You wonder how they survive? I'd wager that a fair percentage of smaller brands don't supply cricket gear as their 'full time' occupation.

I often wondered about a pay monthly scheme. A cricket bat is the same as any expensive item and credit should be offered. It may be a natural product but so are many pieces of furniture and you wouldn't think twice about taking credit out. Don't knock it and give them the benefit for a good idea.

Regarding saturation I think the market has a way to go. With the advent of T20 cricket, more people want specialised bats and are becoming aware of different brands. I think the nature of buyers will change from the 1 bat in 20 years older buyer, to the younger, bat a season buyer. Cricket bats will become more disposable and buyers may possess more than 1 bat a season. Some brands will create demand by marketing and awareness, others will have a geographic area they can survive in. Like all business, those who don't adapt will go to the wall.

If you want proof that any of this, then look at this forum and tell me people aren't buying more bats.

Well if they actually are offering a monthly payment scheme I'm sure it will help sales no end, obviously could be risky in terms of actually getting the money from prospective buyers once they receive the bat. Great idea for them if they can make it work but I'm not sure if it is Hawk that make them but they look pretty decent from the ones ive seen.
