The opposition is looking likely to be Sri Lanka, but still possibly could be Pakistan.
Question is, who would you rather have for England and what would your team be?
My team would be:
1) Strauss
2) Bell
3) Trott
4) Bopara
5) Morgan
6) Prior
7) Wright
8] Swann
9) Bresnan
10) Dernbach
11) Tredwell/Tremlett
Obviously the batting order from 8-11 would be swapped around depending on the pitch and what bowlers are needed.
-
If we play like we have done and either of the possible opposition teams have anything other than a terrible day we will be on the next flight home regardless of which team we choose.
-
1) Strauss
2) Cook
3) Trott
4) Bell
5) Morgan
6) Kieswetter
7) J.Taylor
8] Bopara
9) Swann
10) Rashid/Dernbach
11) Tremlett
I don't care if I can't pick some of those players lol

strauss
cook

No, leave Bell in the middle order. Open with Trott. Or, maybe even stick with Prior for now. Anderson ahead of Tredwell/Tremlett/Dernbach. Jesus our squad's been ravaged. Out of your 11, I'd say 4 or 5 are lucky to be in the squad. Unfortunately, that side is pretty much the best one we've got due to our squad restrictions... Batting there looks horribly weak. Freddie always made our batting look long, but Wright makes it look ever so shorter. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Samit Patel would have been perfect for this squad! Fat buggar!

Wow. I never thought I'd say a few of those names in a WC quarter final side... Still think Ali Cook should be playing, or Adil Rashid, or Steve Davies, or James Taylor, or some sort of all-rounder! Argh, the selectors are frustrating!
Dave, you seem to have a thing about Glen Chapple. I think you make him out to be a bit better than he is at times!

Fair enough;
1. Gilchrist
2. Strauss
3. Bradman
4. V.Richards
5. Me
6. Flintoff
7. Hadlee
8. Warne
9. Garner
10. Donald
11. McGrath
We can but dream.

Sri Lanka definitely the tougher 1/4 final, they're very good at home. Facing Malinga and Murali in Columbo is a stiff task to say the least!

I mentally copyrighted this idea before I posted my 'sensible' team. Therefore I am suing you for £1billion

Maybe i grew up with him but there not many more unluckier look at his first class record Tumo you can not argue against it relay can you.
Have you ever seen him live???

Have seen him live once. Not denying he's a good bowler, but he always seemed to be lacking something for me. Probably the so-called "x-factor". Gough had it, Caddick had it, Cork had it, because they were all unplayable on their day. Chapple was more consistent than all, but didn't have as many "unplayable" days as the rest I suppose.

and is a better batter than all you mention
He lacked a yard of pace apparently
I have no doubt his ship has long saled mate but ask around a lot of international players rated him
Did you not see the time he ripped Essex apart in the B and h Cup final i think he took 6-17 at Lords in a final and still not selected.
His record for England A and U19 is outstanding but the ship has been sunk unfortunalty

yeah better bat, apart from maybe cork, but still decent! I feel that most of those "90's" bowlers were too similar. there was no really tall bowler (devon malcolm apart), and no real left-arm option from what I remember. although my cricketing brain struggles with anything pre-2000!

Which one? :D

Mullally mate remember him he got his chance....

No Dave, just for you, I'm not Mike, Mike isn't me and we are not (yet) lovers.
In regard to the rampage comment, I will reserve judgement until the morning when I have surveyed the potential carnage :D
-
fair enough bud
I have just read how Alan Mullally was once 2nd in the world in odi cricket at one stage
Man batsman must have been poor
-
I don't know what everyone is worried about we are the only side through not to have lost to a team that has qualified so bring them on

both SL and Pak are slippery customers, i reckon England would prefer Pak more than SL.

Quite a few Pakistani's are slippery customers: Salim Malik, Shoaib Akhtar, Salman Butt, Asif, that dodgy agent dude.
Controversial...
