I was at my club today and I was speaking to a team mate who has just taken receipt of a new custom made bat. Although it looks a good piece of willow (performance not yet examined) and the fact that it came from a well thought of maker, it has a few obvious issues which I want your thoughts on before I get back to him.
Firstly, the bat had been made in a fashion that I can only describe as 'shoddy'. There is an obvious difference in width of the two edges on each side, several millimetres in places. Although I didn't get chance to explore this further, I'd imagine such a difference would effect the balance and feel of the bat. Not to say of course such a difference is down to a lack of thought and care in making.
I didn't really bring it up with him, but what do you think? As I said, the maker is well regarded worldwide.

Need to raise with company concerned. take it from there

or maybe name and shame them, have a go at them without having first given them a chance to respond.

Was that necessary?

i'd wait to see how the bat plays - may be amazing and he probably won't care about the workmanship.
if not, contact them and ask them to sort it.
maybe it was a friday bat...

it is an option

20 years ago or more Gunn & Moore used to make some of there bats with a thicker outside edge..Maestro for instance

It all depends on if he is happy
Raise the concerns with him and if he is still happy that's all that counts for me

You can shape an edge perfectly to match the other but if you press it wrong you will compact it more and so it will look unbalanced.

Yeh that's the thing, it stands out a mile off to me, but I'd doubt he'd of even noticed it.

Some people just don't care I have found
I remember playing against a guy who had part of the toe are missing but still hit a great 70 against us and just said the middle is still there
With the amount of bats we see on here we can pick up on things like that but most (plus the better players I have played with) just use the bat and if they like it they don't care about the little things
