Title: What would you like to see from Ayrtek in 2012
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on July 07, 2011, 10:52:11 AM
With the season now at the halfway stage we thought we would see what our existing and hopefully future customers would like to see from us as a company in 2012?

Obviously our primary focus in on the headwear protection market  and will continue to be into 2012 :)

look forward to hearing your thoughts

Cheers

Tom

A masuri conversion for the air bags! We can send our helmets you and you modify them.

Just realised that the pumping buttons would be an issue! Scrap that.

New Wk stuff could be an option but its a very small market to cater for given that only 1 person in every 11 buys the kit and some people have their chosen brand already.

I'd like to see a far more cost effective Ayrtek lid for us average club cricketers who would like to benefit from the added safety without the added cost (over more traditional lids) Maybe slightly cheaper materials?

I appreciate that may well go against the Ayrtek ethos but the only reason I don't own an Ayrtek is cost, nothing else.

Which is why the genital protection market is crying out for Ayrtek technology!

Nice one!  I shall be making a purchase in that case!

Seeing as how you've got that covered then it has to be protection for 'Steve and the Twins' as Tim has said....

Actually, seeing as how I am sporting the ultimate t-shirt tan at the moment how about a shirt that allows you to tan through it?

Shouldn't be an issue as long as you remember the sunscreen.....

All those long sunny days in the field and no decent tan as a result.....

That is a product I would buy.........and trousers..... :D

something similar to the dukes dalek batting shorts. Brilliant product imho and knocks spots off the competition.

An even lighter helmet with better moisture control/airflow. If it sacrificed protection a little but was still safe (even disposal) it might have legs. My mates have bicycle helmets and I alway wondered if some kind of foam protection could be used, as they are very light.

You would need to look at the Elite helmets to customise them in terms of 2/3 colour finish but you will still be able to add a club crest/initials etc to the new range as well

i think Aero/Remfry/Dukes have the corner of the market covered with their strippers so no point in trying to reinvent the wheel

Tom went through all this traditional stuff, I was it's biggest fan! but no point or them making a song and dance about how their styling in all geared towards safety and then bringing out a different design.

Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on July 07, 2011, 11:30:36 AM
Indeed if you want a traditional design thats fine look to the older brand helmets, were trying to keep things progressing in regards to safety and know our shell shape and design works in regards to its deflective properties as highlighted when i spoke to Kumar the other week....he said hes only been hit once on the shell when standing up to someone who fired in a quicker ball which hit him and went for a one bounce 4.

Tom for me the best thing you can do is keep specialising, but maybe make it a little wider and have it that you specialise in protection in general. Obviously people talk about Aero and their strippers, but protection similiar to that must be an option given to you. The key thing for you would be to "be the first thought in cricket protection" Obviously Pads and Gloves there is only so much you can do with them, but alot of people are paying more attention to their box. thy pads and chest guards.

maybe the case but none of them are that well known. I had never heard of Remfry before I came on this forum!. Hardly anyone knows about the Dukes shorts and Aero is hardly GM in terms of presence. I've seen the Aero thing on a team mate and it looks very awkward to get on. Honestly think a Dukes dalekless design, or something similar would be very popular.

As sweaty betty said, better airflow and moisture control.

Memory foam liner :)
Title: Re: What would you like to see from Ayrtek in 2012
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on July 07, 2011, 03:27:09 PM
We have used that in prototypes previously but if used correctly the air should lift the foam away from ur head so it moulds to the shape of ur bonce therefore rendering the memory foam ineffective and an expensive option when not being used for its purpose.

Even some kind of stay cool solution. If you can have water cooled PC's then why not some kind of cooling in your batting shorts, even if it's tucked around the back somewhere area. A cool pack in the helmet would be a nice idea as well.

As you are tackling the cost issue with your new range I would say that the only thing that stands out in your range as not being quite so special is the wicket keeping gear but like you say this is a relatively small market I guess.

Title: Re: What would you like to see from Ayrtek in 2012
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on July 07, 2011, 03:42:12 PM
Cost factor is being looked at and the aim is to produce a range of helmets that offer improved protection over our rivals but still fall into the different price categories so that people with differing budgets can hopefully still benefit from owning and wearing the Ayrtek range.

Keeping gear is something we havent really looked at updating as im sure Simmy will tell you, we knocked around with a few designs but found that people will go to bigger brands of specialist people for this kit such as Mr Wymer etc

I shall look forward to seeing the new range then.
I can see exactly what you mean with the keeping gear. I wonder in this case if it is a range that is worth continuing with as it possibly doesn't match up with the rest of the brand.

There is, it's called a bat. When the ball goes near your face you use the bat to hit the ball away from your face. Very revolutionary indeed  :P

Some, like last week's lot, have liked them but some have hated them.
They are a bit marmite-y I find.
Anyway, I think that although the helmets are becoming more the status quo around the county circuit, perhaps the brand would benfit from yet more advertisement of the quality of the lid?
Obviously cost would come into it but it is just a speculative suggestion ;)

I personally like the idea that was mentioned of the protective batting shorts but maybe along the lines of a compression shorts with a pouch for the box and the thigh pad protection in my mind it looks like these http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004LAYFE2/ref=asc_df_B004LAYFE23501807/?tag=googlecouk06-21&creative=22134&creativeASIN=B004LAYFE2&linkCode=asn. Not sure wheather anybody has done this before?. I would of thought this would be good because for example the kookaburra shorts the pads move inside.

thigh pads similar to remfry..with a twist but still the leather

same extra hip straps

more protection some how

lighter

maybe somehow you can mould it to your leg (just a idea)

only small branding like the ayrtek logo not even the name as i personally like plain thigh guards i.e. bradbury/hawk

as this can be another protective product as big as the helmet and one you would be recognised for if its possible

cricket socks with a bit of padding in them for batting.. only minor

like on the insides of the calf/lef down to a tad on the ankle (so socks would be ambixdetrous anyway as padding on different sides makes them usable for right or left handers

Good to see some product research going on!!!! How about a good genuine bowling boot that offers full ankle support? With only Puma and Nike offering a true bowling boot that wraps around the ankle now after Asics withdrew their 8 for 64 boots the market choice is limited. Also there is not a bowling boot for indoor use unless you unscrew studs etc and put cleats in which is a complete pain in the ass. So  a dedicated full wrap around ankle bowling boot with shock absorption which is good looking maybe all white similar to the I pod style etc just a thought for indoor use that you can walk around in general in and a separate boot with full spikes . As i know my disabled players who have ankle/leg problems love the full wrap around ankle boots but with only two boots on the market now choice is limited.

Some products are best left to the companies that are experienced in that area

Ok I just found out that in baseball the nutty buddy is mainly meant for the fielder's, do they hit it alot harder in baseball or are they just not as good at fielding compared to cricketer's. The only fielder's in cricket to wear a box are the wicket keeper's and close fielder's so why do they need it in baseball?

And they wear gloves to catch too!

It has the potential to come back much harder, yes, and more frequently too.

I can understand that, but surely the out fielders don't wear them aswell.

I reckon that this would be good for cricket. If a bloke can take a baseball at 90mph at a distance of 5 metres and be perfectly fine, then it would deffinately be a useful cricket box.

I think you may find that the overall density of a cricket ball far exceeds that of a baseball. It still looks a good product that can be worked on in all 5 sizes available currently by Nutty.

It deffinately does, but the products out there now are ones that they tested, including the common ones for cricket. Plus I doubt anyone faces 90mph from 5 metres away in cricket, so that should account for the difference in density of the balls.

I seriously reckon cricket shops should start stocking it.

Cricket shops rarely buy stock as most are on 30,60,90 or 120 day accounts.  Best off buy direct from the states in half dozens and share the shipping costs with your team mates (as Johnny has suggested).

Preview of what the new range of shells will look like in appearance....

(http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq167/tom_ayrtek/CIMG2366.jpg)(http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq167/tom_ayrtek/CIMG2365.jpg)(http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq167/tom_ayrtek/CIMG2367.jpg)

Initial thought on price are to have a range starting in the £70-£80 price bracket, this will be a UK made product with high spec materials being used to make them from still. They will feature the same liner, chin strap and grills as the other models we currently produce but the shell materials will differ from the Premier and Elite models.

Entry level will be with steel grille and you will be able to upgrade to a titanium as per our current range. Were still narrowing down what materials we want to make it from as there are some very advanced hybrid options we could/may use to make it light as well as very durable to impacts ;)

ohhhh intriguing??! am I close with a rubberised matt finish?? (no euphemism intended)

I will be first in line for sure!! (at the forum special price of 74 pounds EXACTLY I hope!!)
Title: Re: What would you like to see from Ayrtek in 2012

No they wont have a rubberised finish as this adds an extra process to the manufacturing line which is what we want to avoid where possible.

The price will be at £74.99 as per the shops which will remain firm as we wish to keep in line with the retailers and wont be undercutting them in any way, shape or form.

They will feature a high impact grade plastic shell paired with our unique ACIS liner, also we are looking to introduce the magnetic clip system across the entire range as well....so your getting plenty of bang for your buck!

I used to have quite a small woodworm duffle bag to hold all my kit and I always thought some sort of helmet grill that was easy to take off and put back on would be handy. I always used to struggle to get all my kit in until i got a GM LE easi load wheelie recently. Makes it easier to store the helmet.

Not sure how the hell to do it of course.

I think thats a really good shout actually. Maybe a clip-on/clip-off grill? It would be hard to design but very popular i reckon, seeing as the helmet takes up most of the room in a lot of people's bags.....

Cheers mate, used to wind me up loads not being able to fit all my gear in. I reckon if I could have been arsed to take of the helmet grill each time it would have been ok.

I'd be happy to test out any trial version for ayrtek of course (especially if they'd throw in one of those nice looking bats too).
