I have never worn sunglasses for cricket as I sweat alot so the lenses tend to fog up on me, but being a Type 1 Diabetic, I really should be wearing sunnies whilst playing. I will be buying a pair for the upcoming Aus season and I was just wondering what Oakley frames and lenses would be best for cricket?
I don't know anything about sunnies for cricket, so any help would be much appreciated.
I'd order them from the Oakley website too, so my options are here: http://au.oakley.com/store/products/men/sunglasses/sport

I have a pair of Livestrong Oakley Radars mate, they seem to do the job for me.
Haven't worn them much over here in the UK but wear them every week in Australia, easy to pick up the ball in the field with them and they are a really good fit so when you are chasing the ball or running round they don't fall off.
-
If you didn't necessarily want to shell out on oakley, may I suggest bloc scorpions. I bought a pair off amazon for £26 and they're awesome. Especially for sport. They've got decent lenses, fit brilliantly, and you won't be too disappointed if they break lol.
-
I've used a variety of pairs of Oakleys for playing cricket. My favourites were a pair of Blue XX ones that provided the most amazing clarity through the lenses.
I think what i'd say is that really the lenses are pretty much the same across the board and you should go with a style that is comfortable and doesn't make you look too much like a k**b (as some Oakleys can do...)!
-
At the moment I am leaning towards either the Radar Pitch, Radar Path, Radar Range or Radar XL.

I am tempted to go with a custom pair, but that would be pretty expensive, plus I don't know much about which lenses to get.
-
Lens wise mate get VR28 - I keep in them and can pick up red on green with ease.
-
yup, get vr28's. You can also get vented lenses which won't steam up so easily
-
So go for either the VR28 or the VR28 Black Iridium?
-
i have no experience with the black iridium, but they sound like a good lense for bright conditions. Will prob cost more though
-
Here is the thing. Oakleys are not much better than any other half decent sunnies. I've had laods of oakleys some good ones, some that i dont like that much. I had a pair of Flak or Falks or somthing last year, could not find them at the start of the season, so i got a pair of "Sunwise" from the shop at the county ground, 22 quid or somthing. Now i have them both side by side i can see that the sunwise ones are a copy of the oakleys, but i honestly find them MUCH better. Better fit, feel lighter, len's dont steam up, which the oakley tend to.
Long and short of it i'd get down the shop and try some on, even if you them buy them on line... small differances can make a big impact on how you get on with them.
Bonus tip, if like me you feild at slip, test them out in "the postion" as some are better than others, on some the top rim can get in the line of sight.
-
oakley customer service is superb, and they look after the customers very well. I've tried sunwise too. They definitely do a job, but they don't have as many lense options as oakley. I found their light enhancing lenses good, but imho the oakleys are better in bright conditions. My oakley set up cost about £200, i did feel slightly sick spending the money. 7 years later i think it was well worthwhile.

Yeah the VR28 Black Iridium is $30 more, so I think I will end up going with the custom version so I can pick exactly what I would like. What would be a good second lense? There is only 1 actual Oakley shop within 100 mile radius of my house and that is on the coast (45mins-1hr away), bonus is that they have all the services the online store has except you actualy get to try the glasses on, so I think I will have to go there and try them on so I know exactly what I would like. Don't want to be stuck with something that doesn't suit me.
Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it.

The money is what sort of turned me off the custom ones, but seeing as it will actualy aid my health more so than most people (due to being a type 1 Diabetic) I think that this will be the way to go. I wonder if I could put a spin on it to my mum and gran that they will be aiding my health and get them to chip in, lol.

If your lenses tend to steam up get a set of vented lenses..

Hi mate, I too am diabetic, but I'm not too sure of the health benefits of sunnies in the field?

As you would know Diabetics eyes are more susceptible to eye damage so they say we should wear eye protection whenever outdoors to limit the suns damage to our blood vessels. I have never been a sunglasses wearer, but I thought I may as well wear them for cricket. I have really good controll and my eyes are perfectly healthy and I have 20/20 vision atm, but that will change as I get older so I should start protecting them now to limit any damage that is associated with Diabetes the older you get, sort of like how moisturizer works it doesn't really do anything now, but it will pay dividends when I get older. Although preventing eye damge is more to do with your hba1c and regular eye check-ups, any extra help is always good.
My point was that I should say they are for my health and get them to pay some so it's less expensive for me, ahah lol.

Reasonable approach, just not something that I've ever heard before, as the sun generally affects the front of the eye!
Still, good luck!

Even still, our eyes are more sensitive than that of a person without Diabetes and Cataracts are problems for people with Diabetes. Like I said I have really good controll, but I read somewhere that after having Diabetes for 20 years, 60% of people with Diabetes have some sort of eye problems so thought I should start wearing them even if it only helps a tiny bit. I'm up to 13 years this year (got it when I was 6).
Diabetes isn't that bad as long as we control it, but I love it when I read something and look at the people at risk and I always seem to find Diabetes in there, lol.
Thanks, I have confidence that I can convince them, ahah.
-
Yes, I'm 23 years diabetic this year. I've pretty much worn sunnies in the field to combat sun rather than anything else though...
Control is sadly everything, and not enough Diabetics appreciate that.

I haven't really struggled with brightness, but sunnies would help on the cloudless 32 degree days over here.
Exactly, too many think poor me, when it is actually really easy to control and doesnt effect you that much other than the occasional low or high reading. My hba1c is alwyas around 7 and whenever I go in there are always some on between 10 and 12, which is just terrible when it could be controlled. Every time I get my letter to confirm my appointment it always says please confirm as we had a large number of people not turn up for appointments same time last year. 1 check up every 3 months isn't hard.

Yup, get the same thing here. Sounds as though you have a similar level to me, but then if you're vaguely athletic, you should be doing okay.
-
Oakley's custom service is mysteriously cheap at the moment. Can get Radars with iridium lenses for as little as £72 if you go with the Path shape.
-
IS this with Oakley direct mate?
-
Might start wearing my Oakelys a bit more after reading this!

I play AFL in the off season, so pretty fit.

Yes, they have an O store, which I'm pretty sure is just purely an Oakley store.

Haha, claim that its medical to family and they may chip in. It seems to have worked for me, lol.

Not for the Store, but when I go on the Oakley website it says O store, plus a few other surf shops which stock Oakleys.

Prices went back up to their usual rate last night, sadly. Was considering getting some with the carbon fibre style finish. : (
-
if you snooze you lose
-
S'all good in the hood, the sale merely scrambled my priorities. Can go back to worrying about getting a new bat/lid now.
-
give us a shout if u buy a bat and lid im sure we can sort something out ;)
-

Nah, I ordered some yesterday afternoon and got an e-mail off them this afternoon saying they'd cancelled my order. If you advertised the price wrong in the shop then you'd have to sell at that price as far as I'm aware, this should be the same. Even if they did mess up, they should give me the radars at a cheap price cause I can't afford them at a real price! :(
-
If a shop advertises something instore for the wrong price they are not legally obliged to sell it for this price.

I was under the illusion that it was false advertising if it occurred?
-
Not if it was accidental.
When a retailer displays a product for sale, legally it is giving you 'an invitation to treat', which means it is inviting you to make an offer to buy. The retailer can refuse that offer if it decides that it doesn't want to sell you the goods. To have a legally-binding contract the retailer must have accepted your offer to buy. So your rights depend on where in the sale process you are.
If you order an item on the internet, you don't have a legally-binding contract until the retailer has contacted you to confirm the order. If the wrong price is spotted before the retailer confirms the order, they do not have to sell to you at that price.

Yeah I know the workings of the invitation to treat, but I'm unaware as to at what stage is classed as accepting my offer to buy, would that be the acceptance of my order that I put in, and sending me all the billing info?
-
Hmm, after reading the t+c's, they cannot legally do what they've done, as it voids their own terms. So I've gone out on the offensive and threatened them with various action. Always fun. Especially when they're in the wrong!

Out of interest what TandC of their have they broken can't be bothered to read through

They accepted my order, then cancelled it, which from what I've been told is breaking the contract that they've entered into, and also they never gave me the option of re-confirming the order, which they are supposed to let me do. I have to admit, my contract law knowledge is pretty rusty, I specialised in criminal law at 6th form! So I'm not sure how much of a safety net I've got on this...

'Specialised in criminal law at 6th form'
That made me giggle.
Whether right or wrong, they will claim to have cancelled your order due to the item being unavailable.
It is good to know though that if I ever gt done for murder, I know where to find a legal expert.

Spare me your patronising tone Jon, I read far beyond what was taught, and actually enjoying what I learnt made me read book after book on criminal law. However, I can't see them doing that, because there are more than just a few people claiming the same things I am! Quite a lot of people have kicked up about it.
