I see the boys down at Solitaire now offer a service of being able to go to the factory and see your bat being made.
Surely this must be a good thing as we all know they have a tendency to be heavier than asked for.
Has anybody done this so far or does anybody think they might...?
How do people rate solitaire bats in general?
-
i have said it time and time again.
my solitaire is an absolute beast. i gave it to are skipper to use tho as his bats where (No Swearing Please) lol
-
My solitaire is lovely, i've taken the stickers of it because i wasn't a big fan of them!
Takes a long time to get it fully knocked in, but after that it's a cracking bat. Well worth the £115 a paid for it.

really??
i gave mine a bash with the mallet for 30 mins and used it straight away?
never even marked once

It took a while most probably around 2 hours of mallet work. Then I took it on a bowling machine everyday for about 2 weeks then, i could tell it was fully knocked in. The only problem is that the handle is really thin, and the profile is massive :\

Hence custom made you should be able to choose handle size....?

I had i asked for a Short Handle. I did mention a slightly large handle.. but didn't listen, i had to send mine back a few times because the spine wasn't straight it was curved to the one side, also there was a large lump at the bottom of the handle.

I have now bought a fair bit of kit from Roger and found the quality of all the products good with the value first class.
My bat plays really well and I would rate it only slightly below my Talisman Tendulkar which does have a lot more wood in it at the same weight.
His kids bats are brilliant value too I have recently bought a size 5 for £50 which is every bit as good as the salix pod my son had previously and he hasnt complained about the weight :-)

Just seen this thread. Didn't realise it existed which is why I started the other one.
I think it's a very good offer to be honest and I have contacted Roger more about this service. Which the reply I got was when you go and see him he makes the bat within a day or two, so I guess you don't actually see it being made etc... But you probably just go and select the cleft you want etc...
Think I may take him up on this offer as my last Solitaire was a gun and now I'm regretting selling it to my club.
-
Best take some digital scales with you as well ;)

haha i was actually thinking that, not exactly for the bat i choose - but to test a few of the weights he has there.
-
Kennibro and I were considering going to solitaire to see about this...
-
Let me know when you're going up as I may come and see what it's all about too

Dunno who he this kennibro chap is??!!
Got a nice cheque from the solicitors today from a guy who hit my car ages ago, finnaly admitted to it before it went to court. Its just my excess and a few extras which is a few hundred quid but a nice bat fund. I didnt do one of these no win no fee claims jobs before anyone says anything. I just wanted the blame placed entiely where it should be placed and that was with the guy who hit me from behind. I dont think his argument off me breaking sharply was gonna work in court and I think he was hoping I wouldnt go that far!
-
Any idea on which bat it'll fund?
-
Mate shocking spelling I know!

The chairman of the club i play for is very good friends with the guy who does the stac bats so I can get one custom made and cheaper than the rrp. I had planned on a day out with Redders going to Stac, Hawk, Solitaire, DF and maybe Woodstock as they are all local'ish and could probably be visited in a day
-
I didn't realise Stac were still around?
-
I could not find them about as they used to sponsor and give my old side a discount plus the black prince custom was one of the best bats I've used
-
Yep kenbriooo and I have a date only he is awkward and is a school teacher!! Day on the sicky might be happening for you sir....
-
So where abouts are Stac these days?
-
He is still selling for 100 quids?
-
£125.
The Premium is £150.

-

-

-
For sure! Might need pay day first...
-

-
I get paid 31st but sure I can go and look :(
-
Anyone got any updates on this? Anyone who has gone through with the order?
Thanks
-
Everyone is busy in making themselves stronger and working there biceps out! :)
-
I was going to take up this offer, but it seems a bit of a nightmare to arrange. For some reason you have to go visit them on two different days. I tried to arrange a meeting however it was never suitable and he takes a fair while to respond. Eventually I lost interest.
-
two days? thats poo!
-
Yeah,
one day to choose the cleft, then he can put the handle on etc... then the next time you go it's shaped/finished.
not the best service tbh.
-
bit (No Swearing Please) really! find that strange when a bat maker should be able to do this in a few hours. i mean the hangle glue doesnt take that long to dry surley/
-
Most of the batmakers who arrange visits have a selection of pre-handled clefts, because leaving the handle to dry completely does take a long time. And watching glue dry is boring.
-
Warsop use an animal glue which sets firm within minutes, fine to make and finish as long as you don't use it within 24 hours.
