Morning all - thought you might like to know that GM 2012 will be launched next Thursday, September 8th, at the GM Bat Factory in Nottingham. A couple of trade stockrooms take place thereafter.
Very interesting bat range this year!
Kind regards
Edward
-
any chance of sneaking an invite Edward ;)
-
i have a feeling there may be a few requests for that! be good to see whats new
-
Sounds interesting Edward. Any chance of hints as to what to expect within the forum?
-
The Maestro is back. . . . .??
-
There is a new shape I think, saw it on twitter about them doing the shapes on a computer for a 2012 bat.
Apex to be dropped I reckon

Nope!

The launch on Thursday is to our staff and international distributors. As much as I would love to leak stuff out, it would be wrong of me to do so in advance of Thursday. Just wanted to let you know our timing.
Kind regards
Edward

Do we get more info after Thursday then, even though we are neither staff nor a distributor?

Solid work Edward mate, huge fan of the gear
http://www.cricketinsight.co.uk/2011/09/22/embargo-till-weds-gm-launch-new-2012-website-and-full-equipment-range/
Personally, I shall be picking up some LE batting gloves and the LE keeping gloves.
-
Mmmmmm :D

Thanks but Liam won't be happy...
-
Was that at me about what I said about the Original gloves? Having seen them, they aren't my cup of tea, but that would just make me spend more to get the LE gloves!
Am I right in thinking that this years original pads and the old technik lite pads?
-
Original gloves could've done without the black line on the back of the hand imo. Nice to see something different to previous years though. Loving the L.E gloves. Are the 808s similar?
-
808 are similar to LE in appearance, yes.
-
When will website go live ? :(
-
Anytime now (overnight), according to GM on Twitter.

Thanks Tom
-
Absolutely loving the new gm gear
I best get saving
-
Has there been any info about what type of profile each bat will have?
-
New site is online guys.

They look more like one of the old Purist models to me.
-
Their Player's Edition bats were shown on their Twitter. Nothing extraordinary about their profiles, just slightly larger, but I do like JT's bat profile!
-
Have you got a link to it?
I'm enjoying their new shapes - just I feel their softs are worse than last year.
-
try that.... http://yfrog.com/mfj76vzj

Which bat is whos?
-
I have to say, I love the pics on this...http://www.gm-cricket.com/community/news/2011/9/23/swann-leads-england-and-new-gm-2012-product-range-launch.aspx
so many bats in the background...!!!
not sure I like the yellow stickers (or the orange ones either - why orange - seriously???) but the bats do look inviting!!
I have a question though: why do only the LE gloves have Pittards palms?
In my view the pads look great, but I am not a huge fan of the gloves - I think that the Chase/Salix/Kook gloves all look better than these - the 909's look ok - but are very similar to the GN Legend Gloves with the 2 black fingers...
-
orange to tie in with the d3o material i would think mate
-
The Halo looks the best, followed by 1885 imo. Nice to see green and blue return to a GM
-

...actually Orange 'coz we like Orange! How scientific is that? :D
The bat range looks absolutely superb in the flesh. Very successful Twickenham and Harrogate stockrooms. Our blood is up!
Edward
-
Sorry Edward, thanks for answering, but I think orange (and purple for that matter) should be banned from all cricket equipment...! Although my opinion isn't really worth much!
Colsey - I agree - nice to see the return of green and blue.
but while you are here, what about the pittards palms? it would be good if a few more of your gloves had pittards, in my view
-
Edward, does anywhere currently stock your 2012 gear? I'm looking to get some black GM Control grips but can't be bothered to wait!
-
Tom,
I'm sure I read someone say trott has a custom handle, what was it like?
-
(and purple for that matter)
You must surely not include Newbery Cadbury colouds in that?
-
I don't like purple or orange stickers and that includes Newbury Cadbury stickers and the new Millichamp and Hall Railway Sleeper "the Master" stickers.
I appreciate I am in a significant minority on this.
Sorry for clogging up the topic!

No, bats will start to find their way to the market place towards the end of October

Each to their own! Very specific colour objections if you don't mind me saying so! :o
Pittards = pricey, so needs to be deployed sparingly.
Kind regards
Edward
-
Thanks Edward - and the colour oblections are founded entirely on nothing at all (so I should be ignored!!) :)
As for the pittards, price is a fair enough comment, although Kookaburra seem to manage to get some on their Rogue 850 range which retail around £45-£50.

"Premium Cougar Pittard and Textured Calf Leather"
Hmmmmm...
-
I see a note of skeptisim - fair enough. My gloves have the pittards logo on so I assumed they were genuine as they are a kook ones, but as you suggest there are pittards and pittards!!
thanks
-
Thnk on the Rogue 850 only the small black section on the palm is genuine pittard leather, the main section is textured to look like the 'Quartz' leather from pittards.
-
Tom - that would make sense although on these the palms are pretty good
-
Edward... what is the difference between an original L.E and the new players grade
Thanks
-
Edward... what is the difference between an original L.E and the new players grade
Thanks
Good question - the point about the Player Editions are that they are the exact profile and dimensions of the bats that the players use. So a Player Edition JT is very different to a regular Icon, and we are making these profiles available to purchase by discerning cricketers for the first time. They are of course made from LE Grade timber.
Have a look here - ah no Forum rules say I can't post links I think, so not wishing to upset anyone, have a look at the website, Player Editions are on the first page.
Kind regards
Edward

Lol, you do very cleverly work your way around the forum rules Edward. It must be your incredible charm!
:D

Thanks Edward
i did pm you last year asking about Trotts bat, so am very much looking forward to seeing one of these
feel free to pm me the link :)

That Watson Flare is a thing of beauty!

Well, I don't wish to fall out with the powers that be so if I have done the wrong thing, my apologies. Bit difficult sometimes when trying to fully answer quality questions.

I completely agree lol. I was only yanking your chain anyway. Not being serious in any way :)
-
Edward your insights are one of the highlights of this forum in the last year. If your willingness to share information with us creates issues with sponsoring the forum, I wouldn't worry too much. If people can't see past the pound signs, they do not deserve your presence. :)
Congratulations again on a fine looking range for next season. I make it no secret that I think your bats are too expensive, but I may well be tempted by one over the winter.

Thanks Jon, cricket exemplifies playing by the rules or laws, and conduct on a Forum should carry that mindset from pitch to keyboard.
Yes, there is a price to quality. But then again, there is to shoddy too.
Kind regards
Edward
-
I think also that if anyone is still in doubt, how fortunate we are to have contact with the top man in a situation like this. To have someone so willing to offer advice and help when I am sure he has an awful lot of 'proper' work to do is simply unique.
Although I would never suggest that the forum should take credit for your success, I do see details within the ranges that prove that GM does listen to what the customer wants.
I have nothing but admiration for the current setup, long may it continue.
Now...about that discount... :D
-
I Have to say Gm kit is superb quality and their after market service is superb and its always nice to support a English based company keeping brits in jobs. Congratulations on the new range they look quite good!!!

Totally agree! It's not only the quality of the item, it's the quality of the advice and after sales service ... which from GM, in our experience has always been excellent. The price will reflect the raw materials, the expert workmanship, and a margin to recover costs, etc, plus some profit. Same goes for a good cricket retailer. If you buy shoddy equipment from the back of beyond, then the price to pay may be even higher in the long run.

What would be immensely interesting would be to falk to the guys who shape the bats for your international players...

Well, Kevin our Master Batmaker graces the cover of the GM Book of Cricket 2012 - you colleagues who came around the factory last year met Kevin and all the guys.
I would post a picture but keep getting errors uploading?
-
Indeed seeing Kevin at work was a opportunity that not everyone gets and we were very lucky to get to see the GM operation in full swing.
Kevin has years of experience and makes a difficult job look very easy due to his skills set he has honed over the years! A few of us got to see some players bats whilst up there and were very impressed by them needless to say.
-
Some very skilled people working at that factory. The lad who was doing the buffing and toe guards was an absolute machine! Top quality operation down there..
-
Mr Lowry
Will there be a 2012 GM factory visit arranged?
Really feel like I missed out last time
-
As did I!

Ok! :)

Shotgun!!!
-
Ooooh, and maybe the official CBF photographer? ;)
-
Hang on Pete, I've got a iphone 3 megapixel camera phone.
-
:-[
-
Now that sounds most excellent!
-

Ditto ! Oo something to look forward to
I have a reasonable camera and can take the odd pic ;)
-
Whoever goes, enjoy it! You'll love it!!
-
Might as well send the petulent children of the forum, life does owe them a favour, after all.
I'd love to go, but I know as long as it is organised through the forum, my good buddy Leo would bleed to stop me going.
Oh well.
-
Jon, you just sound petulant yourself!
The victimised tone of your posts is getting quite tiresome
I'm sure that if you are prepared to make the journey then you have as much chance as anyone of going
-
No, you're mixing your words again. You're looking for 'truthful'.
Sorry but when you recieve messages from the supposedly sensible and fair minded admin about how they will delight in your banning, I think you are allowed to be a little sceptical about their impartiality :)
-
I am surprised that anyone was smug about your ban and that's not very nice.
However, if there is a GM visit then I'm sure numbers will be very limited. And because of this, there will be a lot of thinking about who represents this forum in the best way. So it will be done in a fair way!
-
I would love to go, would be a fantastic opportunity. I hope I would be considered
I have not been banned yet and not made enemies haha :)
-
It was a fun day even when we were allowed to have a go at bat making and playing air shots with the pro's bats even though pete tucked one under his shirt
-
Hello Edward,
Would it be possible to post the weights of the players edition bats please? If I was to even consider buying one and it wasn't possible to stipulate weight then I would need to know what I was buying.Ive read the £500 would be a ball park figure RRP. Do you have any idea what price they would be retailed at?
I used to use GM all the time being a Burton Joyce lad, our senior player used to give me all sorts of cast offs from the likes of Kevin Cooper et al
Cheers
Jim

No it isn't I'm afraid - the bats will weigh what they weigh as it were. The timber used is LE, the shape is as per the players choice.

Only if they were required in volume - we wouldn't do a pair by themselves for example

I had a meeting with the GM boys yesterday picked up the new pricing schedule and catalogues etc, i also swung the Halo and Epic around and both superb bats, Halo on first impressions looked like it suited someone who like's a lowish middle but the epic looked a good all round bat. Epic was more balanced and a lighter pick up than the Halo and the finish was superb on both bats the epic we had was an LE and it looked as good as the Newberry cenkos on on the lords show topic. It will be good to see how sales go for the season to come!!!

Great stuff, glad to hear. Yes, GM will have a very good 2012.

-
I'll be honest, I will be using GM all round from next year, picked up a lot already this season but have found a new favourite brand. Partly due to Edward being a top man and giving us his time and energy to listen to what we want.
And the bloke likes darts, so that's always a winner.
Keep it up mate and hope you have a good year in 2012

just thought people should see that the quest for thicker edges has extended to the mini bats...!

Hello Jim. We can't order specific weights in on these bats but of the ones I've seen the pick up lighter than you would expect especially the Trott model. We have photos of all the players edition bats that we have in stock on our website. I have also shown the weight and edge thickness.
