Title: GM 2012
Post by: Edward Lowy on September 02, 2011, 08:19:28 AM
Morning all - thought you might like to know that GM 2012 will be launched next Thursday, September 8th, at the GM Bat Factory in Nottingham. A couple of trade stockrooms take place thereafter.

Very interesting bat range this year!

Kind regards

Edward

Apex to be dropped I reckon

The launch on Thursday is to our staff and international distributors. As much as I would love to leak stuff out, it would be wrong of me to do so in advance of Thursday. Just wanted to let you know our timing.

Kind regards

Do we get more info after Thursday then, even though we are neither staff nor a distributor?

Solid work Edward mate, huge fan of the gear

Was that at me about what I said about the Original gloves? Having seen them, they aren't my cup of tea, but that would just make me spend more to get the LE gloves!

Am I right in thinking that this years original pads and the old technik lite pads?

Original gloves could've done without the black line on the back of the hand imo. Nice to see something different to previous years though. Loving the L.E gloves. Are the 808s similar?

I have to say, I love the pics on this...http://www.gm-cricket.com/community/news/2011/9/23/swann-leads-england-and-new-gm-2012-product-range-launch.aspx

so many bats in the background...!!!
not sure I like the yellow stickers (or the orange ones either - why orange - seriously???) but the bats do look inviting!!
I have a question though: why do only the LE gloves have Pittards palms?
In my view the pads look great, but I am not a huge fan of the gloves - I think that the Chase/Salix/Kook gloves all look better than these - the 909's look ok - but are very similar to the GN Legend Gloves with the 2 black fingers...

The bat range looks absolutely superb in the flesh. Very successful Twickenham and Harrogate stockrooms. Our blood is up!

Sorry Edward, thanks for answering, but I think orange (and purple for that matter) should be banned from all cricket equipment...! Although my opinion isn't really worth much!

Colsey - I agree - nice to see the return of green and blue.

but while you are here, what about the pittards palms? it would be good if a few more of your gloves had pittards, in my view

You must surely not include Newbery Cadbury colouds in that?

I don't like purple or orange stickers and that includes Newbury Cadbury stickers and the new Millichamp and Hall Railway Sleeper "the Master" stickers.
I appreciate I am in a significant minority on this.
Sorry for clogging up the topic!

Each to their own! Very specific colour objections if you don't mind me saying so!  :o

Pittards = pricey, so needs to be deployed sparingly.

Thanks Edward - and the colour oblections are founded entirely on nothing at all (so I should be ignored!!) :)

As for the pittards, price is a fair enough comment, although Kookaburra seem to manage to get some on their Rogue 850 range which retail around £45-£50.

I see a note of skeptisim - fair enough. My gloves have the pittards logo on so I assumed they were genuine as they are a kook ones, but as you suggest there are pittards and pittards!!

Thnk on the Rogue 850 only the small black section on the palm is genuine pittard leather, the main section is textured to look like the 'Quartz' leather from pittards.

Edward... what is the difference between an original L.E and the new players grade

Thanks

Good question - the point about the Player Editions are that they are the exact profile and dimensions of the bats that the players use. So a Player Edition JT is very different to a regular Icon, and we are making these profiles available to purchase by discerning cricketers for the first time. They are of course made from LE Grade timber.

Have a look here - ah no Forum rules say I can't post links I think, so not wishing to upset anyone, have a look at the website, Player Editions are on the first page.

Kind regards

Edward

Edward your insights are one of the highlights of this forum in the last year. If your willingness to share information with us creates issues with sponsoring the forum, I wouldn't worry too much. If people can't see past the pound signs, they do not deserve your presence. :)

Congratulations again on a fine looking range for next season. I make it no secret that I think your bats are too expensive, but I may well be tempted by one over the winter.

Yes, there is a price to quality. But then again, there is to shoddy too.

I think also that if anyone is still in doubt, how fortunate we are to have contact with the top man in a situation like this. To have someone so willing to offer advice and help when I am sure he has an awful lot of 'proper' work to do is simply unique.

Although I would never suggest that the forum should take credit for your success, I do see details within the ranges that prove that GM does listen to what the customer wants.

I have nothing but admiration for the current setup, long may it continue.

Now...about that discount... :D

Totally agree!  It's not only the quality of the item, it's the quality of the advice and after sales service ... which from GM, in our experience has always been excellent.  The price will reflect the raw materials, the expert workmanship, and a margin to recover costs, etc, plus some profit.  Same goes for a good cricket retailer.  If you buy shoddy equipment from the back of beyond, then the price to pay may be even higher in the long run.

Kevin has years of experience and makes a difficult job look very easy due to his skills set he has honed over the years! A few of us got to see some players bats whilst up there and were very impressed by them needless to say.

However, if there is a GM visit then I'm sure numbers will be very limited. And because of this, there will be a lot of thinking about who represents this forum in the best way. So it will be done in a fair way!

Would it be possible to post the weights of the players edition bats please? If I was to even consider buying one and it wasn't possible to stipulate weight then I would need to know what I was buying.Ive read the £500 would be a ball park figure RRP. Do  you have any idea what price they would be retailed at?

No it isn't I'm afraid - the bats will weigh what they weigh as it were. The timber used is LE, the shape is as per the players choice.

I had a meeting with the GM boys yesterday picked up the new pricing schedule and catalogues etc, i also swung the Halo and Epic around and both superb bats, Halo on first impressions looked like it suited someone who like's a lowish middle but the epic looked a good all round bat. Epic was more balanced and a lighter pick up than the Halo and the finish was superb on both bats the epic we had was an LE and it looked as good as the Newberry cenkos on on the lords show topic. It will be good to see how sales go for the season to come!!!

Hello Jim.  We can't order specific weights in on these bats but of the ones I've seen the pick up lighter than you would expect especially the Trott model.  We have photos of all the players edition bats that we have in stock on our website.  I have also shown the weight and edge thickness.
