Title: Indoor Cricket
Post by: Bruce on September 08, 2011, 07:51:41 AM
Gents,
Our Team (Cranborne CC) have re-entered an indoor league this winter starts next week and ends in Jan.
Firstly, What are your opinions on Indoor Cricket?
Secondly, What sort of 'Field' should I set?

Thanks

1) Love indoor cricket its great fun
2) Can't answer that, just like outdoor cricket it depends what you're bowlers are doing and what the batsmen are trying to do...think you'll have to figure it out as you go along

how many aside is it? I personally like indoor. Keeps my eye in during the winter and its nice to hit a few balls when nets arent happening. I think its really helped me in placing the ball and nurdling it around into gaps. Its not all about the big shot indoors as the risk is alot higher.

we play 6 aside 12 overs per side. 3 per bowler. field depends on the bowler. We tend to bowl wide of off stump as legside wides are pretty strict. normally have mid on and off. a cover area and a point/backward point depending on where the batsman is trying to play the ball and also the pace of the ball being bowled. alot of bats will then try to smash u straight or step to off and try to work u into the leg. tend to get alot of leading edges etc that way. Works ok for us most of the time.
if the bowlers bowling a little straighter we tend to have point, midwicket, man shortish on the off side ( short extra/Silly mid off kind of area) and then mid on.

6 a side, Same Rules and regs as yours. 4runs for a wide ball though  :(

we play it its good but i strugle because

a. i am fat and not very fit
b. my game is big hitting if i do it indoor ur out cos u can be caught of the walls.

but i make up for runs with my keeping :D

Indoor cricket is great for learning to not loft the ball and find the gaps...

yeah we have 4 runs for a wide 2 and no extra ball.  in the last over its 4 runs plus the extra ball so you have to be spot on last over. i think the best thing to remember is that dot balls are gold dust they dont come around very often so if you get some your lucky. its pretty easy in most sports hall to hit the walls and run a single. dont worry too much if they are picking up the 3s for the wall contact etc pretty easily. if you can manage to keep the boundaries to a minimum and a dot ball every few overs you should do pretty well. we play in a reasonable size sports hall. its approx 2 badminton courts plus run offs wide and about 6 or 8 long so there is plenty of space. a decent score in there is 160+. 180 is normally the target but have been involved and chased down 200+ on the odd occasion. Just be confident with the running. Run outs account for alot of wickets so if you go, go hard and fast!

Field wise we tended to go with an 4th or 5th stump line and had a backward point in the corner, meaning its easier for him to run onto the ball as he only has tom move one way, mid on and mid off 3/4 of the way to the back wall but close enough to cut of the single, the other fielder depends on your line and your batters, either a midwicket or a cover, leaving the legside corner for the keeper to cover

Are you doing at the Dorset cricket centre? Played some district stuff there, the end 4/6 wall in a net and the balls just drop of the side Walls, no bounce back

Alba - have played that kind of indoor before yeah. Yeah its crazy, just keep your eye on the ball!

Byo, only that its at Cotham School, never been before tho. Half of our team have some indoor experience from the county ground, but not for a few years. Apparantly moon-balls are very effective...

We had our First game 3 weeks ago, Losing on the second to last ball, I retired on 27 as was on 21 when hit a 6 (On-drive into the corner 8)) then went back in as we lost a couple of quick wkts.
Patted back one ball then the bowler- a good mate went round the wkt and bowled me round my legs! Big late swing indoors if you get it right!
Another game tomorrow, really looking forward to it!

How is everyone getting on this season?

What have you learnt?

I have never played indoor cricket but have a tournament in Feb.

Having seen an indoor cricket ball, seemed almost like a hockey ball, do you use your regular bats?

I've used a bat with higher middle as the ball comes on better, helps to knock it in too!

i play two types at headingley with a hocky ball

and at tadcaster with like a yellow indoor ball bit harder than a windball..

i use normal bats for both..

one thing i have lernt is that roofs get in the way! and the none cricketing side that look like they cant hold a bat and just tap and run are usually the better teams
Title: Re: Indoor Cricket

Title: Re: Indoor Cricket
Post by: Red Ink Cricket on December 13, 2011, 09:05:42 AM
we have lost 4 out of 4. as a team we have bowled far too many wides. we use one of those red readers plasticy indoor balls. ones where the seam is moulded in and disappears after about 2 balls. i use my normal match bat and do a combination of the nurdle and the straight hit. hit 160 odd runs in 4 games. retired twice. still ended up losing every game! not good. luckily we do have the weaker of the teams left to play so 3 out of 4 wins and we will be safe

Do you think any of your guys are going Friday? And entering in January?

We've been playing Indoor league since October but I am dying to have a net for an extended knock! Thinking of booking one up for my birthday next week and try out my new kit acquisitions  :)

Was meant to have an indoor fixture this evening but the opposition couldn't get a team together and pulled out about 2 hours ago  :(

The yellow indoor ball we use is hard to get underneath without lofting it straight up into the net and into the bowlers hands so dabbing and running is our tactic. Late cut to 3rd man or glance/sweep to long leg and running 1 gets you 3!

Played indoors today and must say it wasnt that enjoyable. Back has been giving me grief since yesterday and thought 'stuff it' i will play. Turned up, only had 5 players for the first 8 of the 1st 12 overs, other team got 110 (we play in a small school hall), bowled 2 overs for 14 and batted 5 out of 6 as i could only waddle and not run due to my back. I scored 19 from 4 balls before being caught from the roof, off the light and then off the basketball net.
Wish i could be fit for just one whole season of all forms of cricket

After the high of last week winning the league this week brings a low................our first defeat of the season, second to last game of the league.  Well at least it is out of the way now before we go into the county finals and it was to the National Champs from last season so not to bad.  We bowled well but never really gave ourselves a chance after being 12 for 2 of 2 overs.  Gutted!!!!!

first win in 6 games! shocking start to the season for us. were hoping to push for promotion but instead fighting off relegations. all the teams who did well last year are in the relegation battle. all those who missed relegation by the skin of their teeth are fighting for promotion. usual faces in all the teams. Going against the form book. weird game!

I was awesome Last game. Had 46 and all wkts were run out  :o
Not all my fault: One was driven back at bowler who stuck out a foot on to the stumps.
Second one was His call and he did'nt make it. 3rd & 4th Lads were new and won't back up.
5th bloke hit the roof of net ran, bounced on the floor and a fielder run him out then i ran myself out trying to pepper the back wall for 6runs.

First game back today after tearing my knee cartilage. Everything went well when bowling, took a wicket in my first over, always a good feeling! However our bowler who bowled the first over went for 28! He has a no ball problem and get it in to his bloody brain that he keeps over stepping that line! Stupid sod. After the 12 overs, we managed to get them all out for 146 of the 3rd ball of the last over. We only managed to get 103 from the 12 overs. I only managed to make one, then got run out, to which I had basically ran two, when the non-striker hadn't left his crease! (No Swearing Please). I thought I could of done it, would of been a dream return! Still good to be back though! Bring on the summer :D

God i am so unfit!! Sweating would be an understatement.

Batted at no.3 and got about 20 (i never count, only wait for umpire to say ''retire'' very rare!).
We posted 127-3

Bowled 3 overs 3 wickets for 14 runs. Oppo all out for around 70.

Makes it better when you win against your local rivals and send them down to lower league.

Last indoor game of the season today, against Shroton.
We bowled first and they racked up 170 off their 12 overs. We're not the best bowling unit around at all! I bowl line and length and then everyone just gets taken to the cleaners! One of their players must of scored around 70 odd before hitting the roof.
I opened the batting along with another young player my team has, lost a wicket of my partner fairly soon on. I and number 3 managed to retire at 25 along with our number 4. We fell 30 runs short, but being one of the worse teams it was a good effort. Hopefully looking to do it next year! And prove a better team!

Bring on the season! :)

It's a very different game where sometimes it is best to play delicate shots, so it's something I would quite like to try. They play it at the Dummer cricket place where I net, so I may look into it.

Sorry mate I know it there not in the same county I was meant to say in Regional Final against Taunton?  I was a bit rushed earlier.  The only reason I asked was because the ECB Indoor Finals day fixtures are already set mate and Poole aren't there from what I have in front of me.  Games are Derby V Edgbaston (first Semi-Final) and Whitstable V Taunton (second Semi-Final).

We lost to them in the Essex finals at chelmsford. We had such a weak team. We normally play in a small school hall, and the chelmsford indoor school was huge compared to what we normally use. Also was a different ball used, it swung a mile where as the ones we normally use dont get above knee high and only go dead straight.

Well done on winning and you will find it will be a great day out.

No worries mate!
They play Dorset Premier Division, a couple of County bowlers in their ranks, Namely Dan Belt their best Quick.
Ciaran Quinn is a very good all rounder too, he's had trials with Gloucstershire last year.
As mentioned before they were at finals day last year do they are fairly handy indoors!
Title: Re: Indoor Cricket
Post by: legger123 on March 06, 2012, 08:26:07 PM
Dan Belt doesn't play for Poole! He's a Dorchester bowler. I would think the Poole line up will include Ciaran Quinn, possibly Ben Rogers. Unfortunately I can't remember any of their bowlers, but Martin Ford used to play for them, however his years have caught up with him so I'll doubt he'll play

Had our last indoor game of the season today.
We posted a very low target of 70 a/o, i only contributed 10 from 4 balls before being bowled trying to smash the ball too hard.
Oppo we bowled out for 66. I was happy with my bowling, 3 overs, 0 maidens, 9 runs, 1 wicket.

Roll on some more outdoor sessions. Got our old coach/player back from long term illness which will benefit alot of people at our club.
