Monday morning and an early start on my first 'day off' in a while! Trek up to London, wresting with the suited commuters on the train and playing sardines on the underground.
Out of the tube station and the home of cricket had directions, which always helps!

Got to the gound just after 10am and grabbed some breakfast and settled down talking to people and watching a match on the nursery ground. There was a match on the main ground too but was sunnier where I was!

Onto the Asics stand (as everyone seems to want to know the new Asics models for 2012) There are 3 new shoes for the 2012 season starting with the new Advance 4 model.........

Next new model is the Speed Manace, which (unlike the Advance 4) seems to have the Duomax motion control for over pronators like myself......

-
As we are starting with the 'A's first, we'll do Aero next! They distribute Nike gear too so one or two Nike photos in there....although I'll cover a few photos of the Nike shoes when I reach 'N'!

Interesting grip with more width for the botton hand.....
They showed me the grip which has a ridge moulded in....

Some Aero softs.......

More to follow in a while ;)
-
B is for breakfast, break and Bradbury??
-
Nice start to the thread pete, really interesting stuff.
-
I like the look of the moulded Aero pads & I'm interested in their moulded grip too.
-
Is that ridge moulded into the aero grip, or was it the shape of the handle?
Do the still do the Aero P1 pads as they were?
-
Aero are excellent innovators... They seem to listen to what we want.. For instance if we have a bat with a round handle and we want an oval they make a grip to imitate it instead of us put half grips and whatever else on our handles...great work
-
excellent stuff petehosk, very interesting and can't wait for the rest of your review!
-
great thread Pete, like the red asics boots
-
Only one 'B' for Bradbury. Boom Boom were there but was too busy gossiping with other brands!! :(
Plus Boom Boom didn't look to have anything particularly new or exciting.
Paul Bradbury himself was there so ended up chatting to him for 20 minutes. The only interruption was for the Cricket Direct owner or main bloke (think his name was Shiv and was a very polite and well dressed Sri Lankan Gentleman)
Paul had been in the UK tracking round some of the retailers and was a lovely bloke to chat to! He also confirmed that he makes all the bats himself and has 1000 clefts waiting for him when he gets back to Aus.
Anyway, a few photos starting with some willow.................

-
And now some softs - which I do like.
Paul (my friend ;) ) did mention that all the retailers seemed to want some colour in their softs 6+ months ago but Paul was trying to push the plainer softs. And then recently they all seemed to change their minds and want the plainer ones which he was suggesting a long time before. The softs he had were very comfortable and some of the nice softs in design IMO.
Photos to follow...........

Wicket keeping gloves are awesome !!!!
-
Quite like the look of the aero stuff
-
I hate to 'dis' your mate mr.hosk and far be it from me to question the owner of the brand. However, of all the Bradbury's i have seen recently they look to me as if they have all been made in India/Pakistan, both the binding, finishing and shoulder shape all pointing towards this.
If he does make all the bats with Sally then fair enough, i just think he was trying to show off in front of you.........and who can blame him :)
Softs look good though, plain white appeals to a fairly large audience!
-
To be fair, there is soome great gear! The Aero colouring (light blue and gold) looks almost regal and very nice.
The Bradbury softs are lush.
Next will be 'C' fo CA and Chase. BUT I will be holding back on both the Chase and some of the M&H bats due to both asking me to not post photos yet. I would prefer to respect their wishes - I realise that there have been some photos posted elsewhere but if I give my word that I will check with them first, then I will check with them first! ;)
Once I find out what their wishes are, then I will post for Chase and M&H.
Anyway CA now. Interestingly they will now call the CA bat range the TEST (not the PLUS) - this is so it's easier to see where they are for. Plus the guy did say that there are so many ebay 'copies' these days! :(

Dom fella - I am kind of with you there. I was a little dubious as I was pretty sure that they were Asian made last season? Whether Paul was playing on the fact that they were 'making' them, meaning finishing them?
But he did seem convincing! ???
Will see this season I guess! ;)

More to follow soon....

Will try to get Chase gear up Monday/Tuesday after I get hold of Dan and discuss!
Right, as SS (UK not the Indian brand) are next as I will save the likes of Gray Nics and M&H due to there being more photos of them!

-
The Bradbury model stickers on there bats look poor, look very easy to peel off, copy and easy to upgrade and sell on fleabay. Softs do look nice tho.
-
The guys on this stand didn't look very enthusiastic....maybe they were tired after an early start?
Anyway, I did enjoy the bats below ;)
-
Jesus, do the SS softs look as bad in the flesh? Dreadful.
-
The SS look to have lost their way somewhat! They're not great in the flesh and need a complete revamp and redesign!
-
Some really good photos, do really like the look of the Bradbury softs. Keep the photos coming.
-
The only positives (from UK ss brand) were the Turbo 333 and jumbo bats! ;)
-
Cheers for these photos Pete they're fantastic.
Those Bradbury Keeping gloves look awesome. I already have a pair of GM Original Keeping gloves from last year, and I am getting some Instinct gloves soon...but I'm tempted to buy those they look so nice!
-
Right - time to go offline for a little while.
But will be back later and brands to post still (with the majority of detailed photos) will be........
Gray Nicolls
M&H (not the Master bat until I check)
Mongoose
Newbery (tons of lush pics)
Nike trainers
Salix
Chase (after checking with Dan)
And lastly a very, very special car I spotted on the way out!! 8)
-
How much are the Jumbo, would be a nice present to buy my dad for next year as he had (and still has) one of the original jumbos
-
Dont think they are cheap Liam around £200 i think as they used to have a couple in Globe in Bristol.....worth having a look on then et though as im sure there might be a few in the sale?
-
i have some green SS pads ....... like batting with two planks of wood on your legs ....... so fooking stiff it is unreal
-
The jumbo and turbo were both £230 this year.
-
Spare 15 minutes so will post Gray Nicolls gear pics!
Start with the new modern day scoop bat. Willow is ok but not Legend quality, and pretty huge clefts which seems to make these new bats all with mammoth edges - I would say edges are 40mm and then some, and the bat wasn't that heavy at around 2'10. Pickup was ok but would need to try it in the nets to appreciate whether I'd like it or not. The Legend I have feels far nicer in the hands but each to their own!
Pictures to follow...................

Quantum with a rounded toe. They had squarer toe last season especially for our Aussie friends. Evidently a lot of the Aussies tend to prefer the squarer toe according to the GN chaps?

-
Cheers Pete for taking and putting up all the pics! Top work mate and many thanks for pages of new kit too drool over ; )
-
Millichamp & Hall now. Bats first, although I am not posting the lush photos I have of the Master model yet so you'll have to be patient until I find out what I can show! ;)

those goose bags are very 80s in style - not entirely my design of choice!! They have put the word Mongoose on them quite a lot but i don't think you could mistake them for any other brand!!
-
Scoops don't look as good with the sticker in the scoop, looks cheap, prefer the orange paint they used to use.
-
What a fabulous thread, thanks Pete.
I almost feel like I was there :)
-
Hey Pete, Have you got the pictures of Salix and Gunn and Moore? ;). :D if you do.
-
Gunn & Moore were not represented at the show. Salix pics will be posted later. Also will be posting photos of Newbury, Nike and Willostix, and not forgetting the very, very special car I spotted on the way out of Lords! ;)

I hope you have asked the owner to show these pics Pete (;) 8))

There's nothing in there that is not released now or soon from what I understand. And they were more than happy for me to photograph them, especially when pointed out that I was with the rather well-dressed gentleman in a tie called buzz! ;)
-
I think he means the car?
-
I think he means the car?
yup... who needs photo's of any more stash when you clearly caught me driving off to my lunch engagement...
-
C'mon Pete!
-
Good work pete! Can't wait to see the salix stuff :D
-
Great thread! The Millichamp and hall gear looks the best IMO

Oooh, didn't see any? Did anyone see any? ???
-
Adidas don't do any of the cricket tradeshows.

I would guess that most are orange but 4th photo down isn't, so not only orange!
It was Aero who were distributing the Nike gear so maybe ask Aero that question?

Man Salix looks best ever!
Is it me but this year there bats seem to have bigger edges.
-
Does anyone know if those grips are available yet?
-
Nice but I actually think Chase looked superb this year. And the best news is that I'll be posting photos of Chase and Newbury later........but not tonight!!! :o
-
Like I said, if you need help uploading then you could email a few to me tomorrow and I'll upload and email you back the IMG codes to post in your own way.

Well for Chase we will need pictures :D;-) [of course when you can post them no rush!]
But so far whatever you have posted in this thread the best is Salix no doubt.
-
Like I said, if you need help uploading then you could email a few to me tomorrow and I'll upload and email you back the IMG codes to post in your own way.
It's fine thanks fella - I would rather take my time, and you guys don't get too many photos to look at in one visit! ;)
-
Plus I've uploaded them already but thanks for the offer! 8)
-
Damn, my plan to see the gear failed!
Really want those Salix grips as well!
-
Mr Hosking can I just say thank you for taking the time to upload and then post the pics. Real great effort. Cheers.
-
Cheers guys - glad it's appreciated!
-
I would like to say thank you for uploading the all these images, without a doubt the salix was the best there. (Looks like my salix bat as I have modified my stickers) Without being prejudice as I am a salix fan I believe they make the best cricket bats and it is a surprise that so little people use them.
-
I'm not sure if too many pro's use them too. But yes they are pure elegance and class
-
I suspect they don't chase professional endorsements because they are lovely bats, and the only pros I have ever seen use them have been Billy Godleman and a Kiwi fella whose name escapes me.
-
I suspect they don't chase professional endorsements because they are lovely bats, and the only pros I have ever seen use them have been Billy Godleman and a Kiwi fella whose name escapes me.
Why would that be the case? Isn't it basically a dream for each brand to have its name out there and pro using there bats etc?
-
Maybe, but you also need to balance production capacity with demand, and I suspect that the demand is there already at a premium price. If you are in that position, who needs additional advertising or sponsorship cost?
-
Why would that be the case? Isn't it basically a dream for each brand to have its name out there and pro using there bats etc?
Not entirely; yes, I'm sure that Salix, any brand in fact, would be happy for a well exposed pro to want to use their gear, but that profile of player is usually paid a retainer by their gear sponsor - these range from Woodworm paying Flintoff and Pietersen into six figures down to solid county batsmen who get maybe 2-5k per annum (one who is an old school friend and averages nearly 45 in first class cricket makes just over 8k a year from a leading UK supplier). If Salix are selling everything they can produce - and they seem to be doing a pretty bang up job of that - and don't wish to develop outward then why would they give away hundreds of pounds of product and pay for the priviledge?
-
Salix also used to sponsor Sam Northeast at Kent until he moved to Slazenger. He had been with them since he was 9 i think
-
Yep - Sam NE was with them for absolute donkeys years!
And it would boil down to money in the end! I agree that Salix do sell all their bats every year - the likes of the Praestantia has been around and used to always be their top seller! I'm sure that Sam NE was always supplied with lovely bats and softs...but I'm also sure that Slaz came along and said, "Hi Sam, here is £x if you'd used our gear!" and the deal is done! Can't blame Sam, as we all have a living to make!!
But Salix have been clever to ensure that they sell all they make and are not trying to grow too quickly. Keep the quality and the base of buyers! I think that's a decent policy to have rather than try to expand at the cost of losing some quality?
-
As much as I like those Salix bats, I can't help thinking the grips are on the wrong way up. I know this has been mentioned a few times before, on other threads but it is worth saying again.
Pete - did you raise this with the guys? or perhaps Ben or Dan could answer that question...
-
I didn't raise that question! I think that if I go next year, I'll need to get lots of questions together and interview (or grill) the brands! ;)
To be fair, sometimes they look a little uncomfortable with me doing my David Bailey impression with the camera....so wouldn't want to push my luck by asking why they have stuck their grips on upside down! :(
-
Great work Pete - thanks a lot mate.
Any pics of the Newbery gear? Waiting to see those keeping gloves!
-
Newbury and Chase gear (not forgetting the very special car) will have pics posted either tonight or tomorrow!
So your wait will soon be over! The Newbury keeper gear is loooovvvely!
-
ive got a couple of the new(now old!) Salix bats with those grips. They do look wrong but are perfect to bat with.
I now however see from the pics my gear is out-of-date already from 2011!!!
I been down there a few times I don't get the impression they are bothered about exposure on TV,they seem to be doing pretty well, and they are quality.
Nice pictures well done...
-
Does anyone know if those grips are available yet?
yeah they are, got one on my 2010/11 salix :D

i agree with that, its the right way to go.
just look at what happened to woodworm.

Tour range looks good. Thruxton pads look to have gone a little OTT on the leather - almost look like a cheap leather sofa........having said this, i'm sure they look better in the flesh.
Pete, i doth my hat in your direction - great forum work!

I don't think the right one is Jnr bat, I agree shoulders look non-English made, I have Krakatoa and it is no where like that.

Thanks a lot for all that mate especially Cenkos

Can anyone explain the different R numbers on the chase bats pls
-
Cheers all for your mind words!
-
R4 Bottom grade - G3
R7 Mid range - G2
R11 Top range - G1
-
R11 grade 1.
R7 grade 2.
R4 grade 3.
At least I think that's right!
-
Beat you to it - like I did with the snaps ;)
-
I took my time with the snaps as I like to ask permission of the brands first!
The M&H boys are away so waiting before posting lots of close ups of their new master bat. Nice gear this year though. Nothing ground-breaking...but lots of thought and planning put into some of the gear!
-
I asked permission of all the brands at the show - hence why no Willostix and Aero. As they wanted to launch themselves, so under an embargo with those boys for the mo.
-
R11 grade 1.
R7 grade 2.
R4 grade 3.
At least I think that's right!
R4 Bottom grade - G3
R7 Mid range - G2
R11 Top range - G1
Thanks guys
-
I must say, I dislike the toe sticker on the Krakatoa..
-
Love the Tour wicket keeping gloves and the SPS1 batting gloves!
Would you wear the Tour keeping pads under your whites?
Can see Newbery taking much of my hard earned money this winter!
-
The Newbery SPS and Tour softs look really good, still think I prefer SPS stuff the most. Looks classy and plain. May have to spend a bit of cash before next season.
-
Just want to say a big thanks to Pete for taking the time and trouble to upload these.
All week i have been sat waiting for the next instalment.
I love the look of the Newbury Tour stuff. Also love the look of the new GN100 scoop, so much so i have ordered one.
-
And now the last instalment!! This car showroom was just round the corner whilst walking back to Baker St station. It had some stunning cars but I just had to take some pics of a car I thought I'd never see in the flesh! Unfortunately it was the other side of the glass and it was shut.....but very nice car! Enjoyment for the petrol-heads!!

must weigh a ton and pickup like a dog!
-
I think that's the biggest toe I've ever seen
-
That toe is bigger than mine when I broke it!! It's the grand-daddy of toes!
Pick up wasn't too bag actually. Can't remember the exact weight but seem to remember around 2'13/14? Tom isn't as old as me, so may remember?
Picked up better than I imagined it would. I could have used it quite comfortably, but couldn't slip it under my jumper without being noticed! :(
-
Stunning Profile
-
I'm afraid that is just a nasty looking log.

that harlequin in petes pick the profile looks really nice and nothing like the one on their website :s
-
That harlequin is definitely a junior bat
-

No one likes M&H as much as I, but couldn't agree with you more! My biceps felt fatigued just looking at it!
What's with the MK2 of all the models? Is it mere the difference between Grade 1/Grade 1+?
-
I just wondered if anyone knew where the 2010 lords trade show thread was? I seem to recall seeing one, but cannot find it for toffee!
-
hosk went in 2011 and did a full rightup not sure about 2010
-
Brimble, H4L, Sillyshilly and Slogger02 went in 2010. As did I.
Not sure there was a write up, as I was too busy showcasing and Mike was too busy talking about himself.
-
Not sure there was a 2010 one, took me long enough to find out about a 2011 event as its not advertised as such.
-
Ah right, it may have been on another forum(?) I seem to remember some pictures of the Vantage stuff at the trade show a couple of years ago, so I was looking for those more than anything.
-
I was there chaps - and took a few pics as it was my first time and wasn't sure
Found the topic and the link is below. Forward on a couple of pages and the vantage photos are there 8)
