Ok fellow cricket fans.....
Am off with Pedals to Chase this afternoon to spend a little time drinking tea and chatting as well as collecting a bat which Pedals had made!
This will include strolling around the workshop and taking a few photos. But I figure that if I'm taking some nice photos, then I would 'share' the experience with my beloved forum buddies by offering the chance to ask any questions they want to!!
So please post any questions you would like to know from Chase and I'll ask Dan and post the answers with the nice photos! So ask away young fellas!
One favour I ask is to post the entire list of questions and then add your question to the bottom, so that I don't need to track through all the topic to collect the questions!! Thank you kind people 8)

Q11- You make both modern and more traditional profiles...which do you prefer to make and why?
Q12 - Which bat do you use in a game?
Sorry Simmy. As your question was a massive sweeping generalisation possibly based on one single bat, I thought it best to replace it! ;)
-
ive never used a chase bat... i just thought it would be a nice question to ask.
am sure he would get bored answered all these questions so just suprise him with something like that mix it up a bit lol

any news on the visit or am i being too eager? haa
-
Pete is probably still in the car on the way back as we had a net straight after our visit! I'll leave it to him to do the full report but what I can say is that Dan answered every question, made me a stunning bat, sold me some R11 pads that are excellent and proved to be extremely entertaining company as did the guys who work for him. He really is a top bloke! Lots of interesting info to impart but Pete has it all written down and I am sure he will get it all posted with lots of pics by the weekend. For what it's worth Chase have launched their new website today. www.chasecricket.co.uk ..............Well worth checking out! All the new gear is on there. I'm not a keeper but I was particularly impressed with the new keeping gloves.....so soft and supple!
-
I have dealt with Dan over the phone quite a few times now and he does seem a good guy and to make it better all of his gear is class, really like the new stuff especially!!
-
Any update on this guys, i'm looking forward to it (am i sad?) lol
-
Pete reckons he'll get the report up tonight or tomorrow night, I think he got dragged out Christmas shopping this weekend! He also had his visit to Asad at Uzi Sport to post which happened the week before and that only went up last night! I am nagging him though! ;) It's worth the wait, it's a very high quality setup there.....we were both blown away.
-
Great stuff!
-
Hi Pedals,
Glad you got a great bat and some pads! Did you get any pics of the keeping gloves? ??? :)
I look forward to Pete's pics and review.. :)
-
Personally I didn't but Pete might well of. If, by chance, he didn't snap them then I will take some on Thursday as myself and Pete are dropping off a few bats with Dan for various mods and tweaks! ;) I'll post the pics in this thread. They are really nice mate, the padding inside the cuffs is so soft! They look really classy.......
-
The suspense is killing me!!!!! aaarrrrgggghhhhhh! lol
-
I know!!!! What can I say? It is happening, in fact it might become a two parter as we are off to see Dan again tonight! We can't keep away at the moment, it's having a very negative effect on my bank balance :D
Pete has just said the review stuff will DEFINITELY be up for this weekend.....something interesting to read over Christmas! Result! Maybe he is just waiting for a captive audience???
-
La dee doo la dee doo doo!
-
Ok, ok! I'll start by posting the Questions and Answers within the next hour or so!
Then I'll do the workshop photos and bat photos in the next day or two as a Crimbo treat! ;)
-
And Timbo....you were the first one to view the topic once I posted my hum! I reckon you can't wait to see if Dan wil be kind enough to provide a bat for the next Batoff? ???

I had completely forgotten about that question ??? :-[ ;)

Q1 Will you still be selling the four leaf clover bats?
A1 Future plans include keeping the four leaf clover. Plus there are other exciting future specials in the pipeline for early-mid 2012!
Q2 Have you had recent new investment in your business as your new range is a significant departure (and improvement) on previous ranges?
A2 Improvements have been made by developing better relationships with willow and sticker suppliers. And plenty of late nights planning the way forward.
Q3 Why did you name your bats after Titleist golf clubs?
A3 And indeed motorbikes!! We are well aware of the golf range with it’s exclusive lines. But we simply were looking to simplify the range and move away from older models and give them a fresh feel.
Q4 How much input does Robin Smith have in the business?
A4 Robin endorses and uses Chase products but doesn’t have direct input
Q5 Are you taking steps to reach out to the non-UK market?
A5 We currently have two shops in Australia – Ozone Sports and The Member Stand. But we are hoping to develop the new range into more non-UK markets eventually
Q6 Have you signed up any pros you can tell us about to use your gear for next season?
A6 Heather Knight (England Woman’s team) But not actively pursuing any pros. We like to think that Chase are manufacturing company and not a marketing company!
Q7 How much free gear will you give me for one of our Batoff tests? A bat would obviously be idea!
A7 We can provide one of our new style bats and softs from the demo stock for the Batoff – will arrange through Pete
Q8 Did Matthew Hoggard hand pick his bats and what weight did he use?
A8 Yes Matthew did hand pick it. He uses 2’9 but is not overly fussy.
Q9 Leading on from my last post in another thread can you tell me a bit more about your knocking in machine?
A9 The knocking in machine was designed by myself (as we have designed a few bits in the workshop) and Pete will provide pictures in the workshop review
Q10 Do you think modern bats perform significantly better that 10-15 years ago or is this a bit of a myth?
A10 We believe it’s a myth. It’s too much of a generalisation
Q11 You make both modern and more traditional profiles…..which profiles do you prefer to make and why?
A11 The Finback is probably the most challenging profile. I prefer to make Custom / bespoke profiles as they are different from the stock shapes we do and present a different challenge
Q12 Which bat do you use in a game?
A12 I use a 2’10 Finback with a high middle
Q13 I heard a rumour you use the name Chase because when at school, you used to chase the girls away with a cricket bat?
A13 Partly true! I actually used to chase the boys away, which left me with all the girls!
Trivia pondering moment………Chase actually stands for Cricket Hockey And Sports Equipment! Hmmmm
Q14 Why should I choose Chase equipment over other similarly priced companies?
A14 Simple - Come to the factory and not to the warehouse! Everything is designed in-house including profiles, pads, gloves, packaging, etc therefore ensuring that you have unique cricket gear that is different from any other brand
Q15 What do you see as the next ‘trend’ in batmaking? i.e. think edges, concaving, etc…..
A15 Chase are looking into handle technology and addressing profile and shapes. A trend that may get more common is direct custom
Q16 What made you start using Kevlar toe guards? And what are the benefits?
A16 Kevlar toe guards are strong and are ideal for both indoor and outdoor. Plus they look superb with their weave pattern as well.
-
heeeeeeeey! Finally! Top work Pete! ;)
-
Aww. Thanks Pete. ;)
Nice for a company to give direct questions an honest answer...
Not much spin here.
-
Awesome response Pete! Loving the answer to my question!
-
Great info Pete, any pics to follow?
-
Lots of pictures to follow....very soon ;)
-
Pete, this wait is killing me!!
-
come on pete ,get your pics out for the lads!

That an A.Strauss powerbow on the wall?
-
Is the ball in the end of the knocking in machine rock hard?
-
Strauss match bat (used) but not used heavily!! Picks up superbly and if I had of had a long baggy coat, it would have been sneaked off to the nets with me!! It is a beauty!! 8)
-
Is the ball in the end of the knocking in machine rock hard?
I believe it was quite hard. But didn't get near it to find out! It knocked in Luke's bat very well and took but a mere 10 minutes Mr.M!
-
Is the ball in the end of the knocking in machine rock hard?
Nope, it's a sort of rubber composite. It's hard but not solid and I think it's hardness can be adjusted but I could be wrong! The bat I bought (pics in a sec) was knocked in within 10 mins on that machine. Dan designed it from scratch and had it made for him in SA.
-
Looks very clever to me...great to see another mans inventions within the market all be in a different field :)
-
Luke's bat post net session! I don't normally use a traditional profile but this bat picked up really well, felt very comfortable, and had an incredible middle which was long and effortless!! It even made ME look like a proper batsman! >:(

Quite impressed i spotted it! Is it Chase made?
-
Boosting the post count Pete my good man ;)
Did you manage to get any pics of the kit - I heard the keeping gloves were nice :) - I presume if you do they're on the way? :)
-
Sorry about quality of pics but iPhone pics I'm afraid!
I have to say that this bat of Luke's is superb! It compare with the Screaming Cat which sets a high standard to which Tim, Buzz and the Stig can testify to!!!
-
Very busy indeed.....

Back of those two bats look like my rob pack new wave. Wonder if the clefts come from TK?

Gray Nics fella!
-
Loving the look of Luke's bat. Very impressed with chase this season!
-
Didn't have time to get new kit pics although he did give me a CD which should have the pics - will check the CD out tomorrow! In the meantime I did take pics of another rather lovely bat which I can post pics of, if anyone is interested?
-
Nah...
-
Ok
-
Sorry Pete, was typing this whilst you were doing the same thing mate!!
Ok, so this is the bat that Dan kindly made for me. Myself and Pete took him the M&H custom of Pete's that I have a serious fixation on and his Scat that performed so well in the recent Batoff and the task for Dan was to give me the middle position of the Scat with the high spine of the M&H. The willow cleft used was picked purely on performance.

Dan signed my FLC sticker for me!

The profile shot shows the thin edges and high spine that I prefer...

As was said earlier Dan knocked this in whilst Pete bombarded him with questions, 10 mins into the interview the bat was ready! We both took it straight off into the nets to see how it went.
Obviously I am likely to be a little biased about this as it is my new baby and as we all know no one has ever posted a bad review of a bat they own on here ;) however it absolutely flies. The middle position and feel of the bat is very, very similar to Pete's Scat having tested them both back to back there is almost no difference in performance between them. Obviously Pete's is a little lighter than mine (2.8 as opposed to 2.10 1/2) but the pickup is similar. Performance is off the chart for me. Anyone who has used his Scat knows how good it is and this is on a par.....
All in all Dan provided an amazing service to me at an incredible price considering the time and effort he put into getting it just right for me. Even making drawings of possible bat shapes to show me and taking measurements to ensure the middle position was correct.
If I come away with one thought in my mind about his work it's that his attention to detail is incredible. Not only does he make this from start to finish unlike a lot of 'custom bat makers' but he genuinely puts 100% into everything he does. I am a convert!
His new range of softs are blinding as well!

That profile is just amazingly good! Jesus chase have really stepped up thier game with thier bats and softs this year! I for one am very impressed and that looks like a cracker of a bat mate.
-
And last few pics of different profile....

Pete spied the above bat on the counter in the office. It's about 2.14ish and I believe it was a review bat but for whom I couldn't tell you. It was beautiful! I could see Pete trying to control his spending urges!
-
Thats a fantastic looking bat, very nice profile.
Batmakers must love it when people ask for performance clefts as opposed to 29 sapwood straight grains.
-
Dan was really honest and said that he struggles to get multi grain clefts that perform as he wants. He said that a big multi grainer (15+) is unlikely to get an FLC sticker.
-
Is it just Dan who runs Chase ?
-
Nice bat Luke. i like it alot.
-
I think Dan runs it but he has 2 or 3 other guys who work in the workshop - all decent blokes! He has a really good setup and is always looking to improve things!!
I must admit that he impressed me with his ideas, his innovation, and his pure passion for everything cricket! :D
-
Nice bat Luke. i like it alot.
Thanks mate, it was inspired by that M&H that was yours!!
-
Nice post guys, thanks for sharing.
Always liked the feel of my team mate's chase bat. hoping to get either a chase or M&H next.
-
Top stuff Pete!
-
Top Work Mr Hosk, will these be at the next bat off?
-
These Chase bats are really nice looking bats... Just what we need here in the land of Oz
-
Awesome stuff Senor Hosk!
Pedals---- your bat is simply amazing. I am a slave to that particular profile.

My god! Look at those Shark's Fins!
-
They're pretty extreme! I think they are standard Finback profiles but I could be wrong.... :)
-
Perfect for a touch player like Pete or you pedals
-
I think that's a bit kind to call me a touch player mate! See it, hit it! I would hope you'll give it a go in the new year for our day out?
-
Well you give me the date and I'll be there and I'll bring some big bats for you to have a swing with
-
If I can lift them! Your on!
-
I've heard great things so I'm expecting some tips
-
Whoever told you that is lying! I'm expecting tips off you..... :D
-
I gave Pete some basic tips for spin
Most of time
close eyes
swing
-
Aaaah! He passed on that nugget to me......it seems to work! ;)

Top Work Mr Hosk, will these be at the next bat off?
As per Q&A question kindly asked by Tim, Dan has kindly offered to provide a bat and possibly some pads/gloves for the next batoff!
We'll see when it is and I'll speak to Dan 8)
-
I have had the pleasure of having a bat made by Dan, he is a great buy and makes some great bats. Softs are super light and very stylish. The new FLC gloves are awesome.
The Strauss powerbow was refurbished by Dan and it picks up extremely light and it is destroyed across the outside edge for the left hander!
Very much recommend Chase gear, fantastic gear at a low price!
(Can post pics of my gear, if this is wanted)
