Have any of your teams (if lucky enough) signed any pro's or overseas for this season yet?
Be interested to know what calibre of players some of you are going to have for this season and who you have had the pleasure of sharing the your name on the same teamsheet.
-
Hopefully our overseas is coming back this year but it's always the doubt we get every year
-
We've got a new one, don't know his name
-
We don't pay a pro/overseas out of principle - in the past we have Steven Moore play for us (opens the bat at Lancashire) and a few guys we have had to register, but eveyone pays to play for us!
-
My current league is strictly amateur only, whereas in contrast to buzz, the previous 2 leagues I played in insisted that every team has 1 pro.
Best I've played with were NZ test player Matt Sinclair and Pakistani test player Shadab Kabeer
-
We have a South African called Jandre Coetzee. Don't know too much about him but seems to have decent figures. His batting average is higher than his bowling average which is always a good sign.

You play for Sudbury? ^ Faced him the year before last home and away, at home i batted low down.. came in at the end and he bowled 6 yorkers out of 6, too quick to get near them. Away i opened the batting against him, swung it both ways at pace. Took a few blows on the body that day. Class bowler
-
Oh yeah and his batting, he reverse swept me first ball for a one bounce 4, hits it hard.....and far.
-
Remember us having Doug watson(South African), Rashid Amin (Pakistan)
Also Pro's Paul Atkins, Andrew Harwood, Harold Donnachie
-
It is rare that any team in our league does not have a pro or overseas of the last 10 years or so.
Our team have had a few. When we were in the prem league we had Anthony Palladino, as all prem league teams have someone from Essex cc play for them. Although overseas/pro's are not always what they are cracked up to be. We had a player called Roger Telemachus, one day player for South Africa and trust me he wasnt much.
According to our pro's last year, north west divisions have alot of decent pro's playing.

I remember playing against your lot at your place and creaming Palladino through the covers for 4, I didn't see the next ball and my stumps went everywhere....
I also remember playing against you when you had Chris Drum and we still beat you ;)

No mate Rawtenstall in the Lancs league and you have just put a smile on my face. I've seen him listed as left arm medium on some sitees and fast medium on others. What do you reckon?
-
We must have had the famous Hcc batting collapse. Drum was a class act, not a mass of pace but decent lines and lengths.

Lol, just found the scorecard for that game. Batting 6!! how times have changed.
Also found the 2nd game between us, but i will not mention that game lol.

My club had Aizaz Cheema about 6 years ago, who may play for Pakistan against England tomorrow. My mate is the 1st team 'keeper, and said it was a painful experience.
Best pro I've seen is Steve Pope at my old club Truro CC, a South African batsmen who had an unbelievable amount of time when at the crease compared with anybody else I've seen close up. Always averaged around the 80-90 mark in his 3 seasons at the club.

You played at Truro? How long ago? Popey hits a hard ball from the sounds of things, was down there last year and you could hear all the club stalwarts talking about him, clearly quite revered there!

I played all my junior & senior cricket at Truro until I moved away in 2005 for work purposes after university. I didn't play in the match or see the innings, but he hit a century off 38 balls in (I think) his last game for the club, the Cornish league cup final. A lot of the club's members still mention that innings given any opportunity. Were you playing a tour match against Truro last year?
-
Our club as had an overseas pro for every season I can remember, best we've had is Mark Gillespie, the new zealander
-
We've got a kiwi fast bowling all-rounder who plays for a state team out there, not sure of his name or any other details but apparently he is keen to come over! Watch this space...

Gonna sledge him if they bat first?

He'll get some every game surely!!!
-
It is funny in a way as in the US majority of players are overseas ones (including me); only difference is, we pay to play and are pure amateurs...lol
-
He'll get some every game surely!!!
I wouldn't! He won't bounce you, he'l beam you!

Good luck is the only advice I can offer aha.
What standards that in mate?
-
I wouldn't! He won't bounce you, he'l beam you!
Every team has its idiot, I can picture ours doing it from the sidelines!!
-
Two counties div 1, Keen for sledging him if we bat first haha but theres always the away game. Heard he's a bit of a nutter.
-
Mind the Windows Tino!!!!

Nah mate, I've got family down there so I'm there every summer for a few weeks. Get to watch my fair share of quality cricket there though, caught a few county matches, and got Caddick's Testimonial match as well. My uncle's dad is the president, I think! (Not entirely sure, I don't see him much, but it's either president or chairman, I think president though, and has been for a number of years.)
-

Completely true. I watched him play against a team in our league and he beamed the same guy twice and was taken out of the attack. His figures weren't great either. Let me have a search on Play Cricket and see if I can find it.

Tino was being tapped up to play in our league last year until his demands became ridiculous. Mo Akram played in our league a good few years back and he was the same, if he was given a bit of tap he would let slip a 'beamer' then start bowling off spin for the next 5-10 overs. He used to play Sunday league cricket for Ilford and let slip in one game and put a poor fella in hospital.

We had Werner as pro the season after this, I think. Top guy, I got on really well with him, he didn't really do it on the pitch though.
He was at Enfield last year and I was meant to go and meet up with him, but I never did. Kind of regret it now.

Seems very handy with Bat & Ball
-
Best pro we've had so far, hopefully he'll come back for his third consecutive season! :)
-
Not for my team but Camborne in the league above me had this guy, by all accounts he was a bit gravy ;)

Coggeshall
-
At my old team, we had an Indian overseas for the best part of 10 years I reckon, until border force caught up to him lol. Then we had an Aussie who was class! And an Aussie last year at my new club who was also fairly decent.

Yea and a bit of a d*** (in a good way) although I wouldn't let him near my sister.

Who would you let near your sister huh ;)

Cheers for that pal, I'll have to arrange a meet up with him since I'll just be unemployed this summer lol
-
It was many years ago around 1976 and in my formative cricket years at Walsall, Graham Yallop (Aus) and Mushtaq Mohammed played at different times. Was well impressed when Yallop told me to foxtrot oscar one day lol.
I was too young to understand who these guys were.
-

Haha and I can understand why! I saw some his antics on a night out in Taunton- nutter!
-
Apparently tino best is a pro in our league this year, I might take an early retirement
-

A very humble guy too.
In our league one of the teams had Andre Russel as their op.

Only overseas you get in Dorset is in premier leage and I don't play that high!
We have a south African, but he isn't a pro and isn't classed as overseas!
-
I remember many years ago turning up for our 1st net of the season and facing this huge, raw young west indian pace bowler who had just arrived in the uk for the first time . His name was Courtney Walsh.
In those pre helmet days it was not the most enjoyable experience and it felt as though he was bowling with one of those rubber bouncy balls lol.
My claim to fame is I once opened the bowling with him in a cup match and had better figures as the batsmen jumped out the way of him then slogged me on purpose just to get caught.
-
Club in my league have Tino Best this year, Cant wait to face him...
Tino best played in my league a couple of seasons back and ended up getting banned for behaviour!
-
There's talk of Ian Harvey being a pro for a team in our league this season, don't think the grounds will be big enough for him...
-
Apparently tino best is a pro in our league this year, I might take an early retirement
You playing in div 1 this year? Yeah should be interesting..
-

You have to tell him to mind the windows when he bats.

At Henfield, we're getting back our Aussie from last year. In 2010 we booked this guy from Barbados who managed to get repatriated before he got out of arrivals at Heathrow! Luckily we replaced him but ended up with a 5'4" Number three from perth instead of a 6'2" opening bowler from the carribean. Overseas have been hit and miss for us so far. We had an Aussie Grade player for three years who helped Horsham win the Cockspur Cup a fews years back. We had a Zimbabwe A player who broke down after him.
I like the idea that people can come over here and ply their trade for a summer and have an adventure. Two of our guys have gone over to Melbourne this winter to play at our overseas club as a kind of exchange. (Not sure it's been much of a swap mind!)

I play for Hornchurch in the Essex league. We used to play at Hartley in pre season games. Reember playing at yours and everytime it either rained or was a real wet one. It never stopped Min patel smashing it. Remember a young ginger lad a few years back who was decent and i think he made it into the Kent squad.
We don't play anymore against Hartley as someone from our team was dared to do a lap of the square in a borat man'kini, but i do not think some of your members found the funny side of it.
Love the facilities at Hartley and the short short straight boundaries.
