I have had a net this afternoon with the Stig - to which as Hosk and Canners weren't there, he finally bought his bat.
It is reasonable to say that this bat is immense - and unbelievably only 2lbs 8.5 - this is an amazing piece of wood and really shows what can be done with the best willow, not the cleanest but really well pressed.
The Stig said it was one of the finest out an out performance bats he has been fortunate to have.
I had a go with it and the performance was surreal - not to mention the balance.
While he wasn't looking I snapped a couple of pictures with my phone so sorry for the picture quality - I was in a rush, so enjoy.
:o

Where the hell did that come from. Very jealous...
-
Is it a real one ;)
-
Just taken a pic of my 808+. It's 2'10.6oz and 35mm edges:-
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-JIPMFLwDfiA/T0E00oVSQbI/AAAAAAAAEtQ/koDK6m7L-Po/s803/DSC_0973-1.jpg)
All I can conclude is his is nearer 40mm and 2oz lighter than mine - and I got lucky finding a lighter one. So 4oz lighter compared to a standard GM+
-
nothing standard about this bat and it is very definitely real.
-
looking at his bat maybe the gm+ sticker is more towards the top edge, so maybe not 40mm but certainly 2oz lighter!
-
And for £500 you too can own a bat just like this, plus the Stig's signature will be laser-etched in it
-
Is it my imagination or are there some stickers missing...?
-
Do they do a stig model?
Maybe the stig asked for no model on as sponsored players get what they want I'd think
-
Is that a £2 coin??
And look like easily 35-40mm edges. But the rest doesn't look thin so looks chunky all over! :o
Blimey! No wonder he wouldn't bring it when Canners and myself are there!
2'8 with that size is crazy!! How did it go, or is that a really stupid question!! ???
-
the stig has to pay for a repair to the barn roof... that is all I can say.
-
please answer me who is this stig and what and where is the batoff??
I can't be the only one on here who doesn't know
-

The Stig wants to hit it in the right direction then.....like a proper batsman would!
-
Looks alright thought the stig would be using a hybrid willow made of wood and plutonium tho
-

the stig is an unidentifiable former county pro (he has been released :( )
the batoffs were held at a barn in leatherhead.
the batoffs were a very unscientific, but a whole load of fun, bat testing sessions.

What do you think the + and lack of grading really stands for?
-
Radioactive do not come near this man...is that why he wears a while suit?

thanks, although i take it if you go along to the batoff you can meet and greet
-
You can meet a proper batsman, and eat some cake - then you can watch Canners hog the nets cos he 'has to be getting off early' - oh and you might meet a Big Pussy!
-
when's the next batoff. I'm down south on the 3rd/4th March and would be interested to pop in. Could even offer up Ryan's lammy for testing!
-
I'll be sure to attend next time if there's cake!!!!
-

There were hob-nobs last time.... Which I believe you should already know.... ;)
-
Does Batoff play for leatherhead?
-
Those puppies got demolished within 2 days in our office....may make a trip to Krispy Kreme en route

Your office eats hob-nobs slow.....
-
It's usually only me in there so I try to restrain myself!!!
-
if shop gm bats where like that id have one!
-

is that a thick outside edge through the slips? straight into the mattress behind .. can't do too much damage there
-
mummy mummy .. I WANT!!!!! >:(
Buzz .. you have to steal that bat for me . Healthy reward in it for you nudge nudge ;)
-

me hog the nets did you really just say that...........
i only managed to get a few hits in between the stig tampering with the bowling machine ;) the stig needs to get the speed up and face in excess of 55mph next time :)
-
Is this a shop bought bat, in which The Stig got lucky with weight? I notice the model sticker has been removed.
-
what does it say under the gm+
The bigger one?
-
Does Batoff play for leatherhead?
No, he is part of the furniture at Headley however
mummy mummy .. I WANT!!!!! >:(
Buzz .. you have to steal that bat for me . Healthy reward in it for you nudge nudge ;)
this is why he would only bring this bat when Canners and Hosk weren't there... I don't stand a chance!

nope - the stig said that GM decided that the bat face wasn't clean enough to be an L.E./Players and as he isn't a major signing he said he would just take the bat without a model sticker.
what does it say under the gm+
The bigger one?
no, the absolutely massive one.
-
No wonder the stig hits the ball so hard
I wish I could get a bat like that just little heavier
C'mon buzz surely you can convince the stig to hook one of us up
-
I could just about use that weight although 2'10-2'11 is better weight for me, so please tell Mr. Stig that it is safe if he brings it for next batoff! ;)
My Screaming Cat was in more danger of being snuffled by the Stig!! :(
-
No wonder Ravi has to go elsewhere for his bats if the super-light clefts are going to ex-county players.
-
Mr Lowry said there's no such thing as light weight pro clefts if I remember correctly
Maybe you have to go direct to SS for them :)
-
So, have I got this right, in that all GM's (of a given model name) are exactly the same shape with the same (near enough) dimensions, and the GM+ suffix refers to a meatier profile?
So the sub 2'9 GM+ bats are super rare and don't make it out to the shop stock?
-

Correct - GM+ are in the region of 4mm bigger (all over) than the standard shapes.

This is not the case - it is just that pieces of willow such as this are rare (so there are n't that many about in the shops)
-
Correct me if I'm wrong here Streaky, I was just going to add that for the + profile the standard weight is 2'12 or higher. It's rare to get much below that weight. I heard of one shop bat last year that was 2'9 ish and the one I got a couple of weeks ago is 2'10.6 . I know of a couple that are just under 2'12, but you're more likely to find those near the standard weight.
I guess for the stig to get 3.5oz lighter it must of been set aside for the pro's?

Generally 1mm added to the back profile adds 1 oz - so if a GM+ is 3 to 4 mm bigger it would be 3 - 4 oz heavier than a standard Icon for the same density of willow cleft. That said we do get lower density willow clefts (very rarely that low, and the mysterious stig has been very lucky) that make light GM+ bats, these will go to both retail and pro players - the pro's blades will be blades that have imperfections on the face but still go like guns.

So having recently lost his county contract, can't you twist his arm Buzz, that there's a very quick way to make a hefty chunk of coin?
-
Mr Bacon, a man of your calibre must be able to locate an example of said bat for little old me no??
-
I could just about use that weight although 2'10-2'11 is better weight for me, so please tell Mr. Stig that it is safe if he brings it for next batoff! ;)

Pete nothing is safe from you :o !!! :o

I am not sure - like all out of contract pro's he is talking to Kent and Glamorgan.
although repairing the barn roof will be expensive for him
-
Am going to come in here, as I was in Tony Price sports in Plymouth today and they had two GM Icon + an 808 and 909 I think and they were both incredibly light and must have weighed 2.10 maximum. The GM Icon has always had a good pick up though and I might be mistaken on my guess in weight, but I was comparing them to a couple of bats that displayed 2.10 and they felt lighter by a big margin. Also the GM Flare + player bat I used only weighed 2.7 and it was massive if you hunt around you can get big GM bats with very low weights and not necessarily a top of the range model relatively cheap.
-
I am sure that is the case. the 808 bats are around £150 and are very Goo# value.
however I know you can't by a bat like this in the shops...
-

I am happy to provide one of my bats for testing to use as a comparison and I bet my bat out performs this gm mystery pro bat ;)
-
sounds like you need an independent tester.
I volunteer.
-
I'd be interested to see if those scales are actually accurate too.
Send both bats to me, I'll independently review...
-
the scales are same as mine and are usally 99% correct
-
Yes, unless they're on uneven ground or the bat isn't placed correctly.
-
the scales are on an table with the bat in the middle, sorry I wasn't able to get a full length pic!
-
I recently received a 909 Icon in a swap with a Forum Member and I was seriously amazed by the size of the bat and the pick up.
It looks like a 2.12 and picks up like a 2.9. The entire profile was much bigger than I expected but as it was a long handle im not sure if that means you get a slightly larger profile? Surely not but im really impressed with this Icon profile.
-
Well love them or hate them GM bats can be as good or bad as any brand but if you keep an eye out its more than likely you will get an 808+ Icon a lot lighter than it should be and it aint that uncommon!!
-
the scales are on an table with the bat in the middle, sorry I wasn't able to get a full length pic!
is it possible to get a full length pic?
-
If anyone is having a go and review the bats, I'm way in front of Tom!
He can join the queue....
