I have 6 videos of me batting here.
The first is from winter 08/09 when I was doing my A Level PE cricket
I had pretty poor footwork and not a great technique (first and last ball aren't me!)

The second is from summer 09

These are from 2010, this is me batting, front foot and back foot at an academy session against the bowling machine
It's an improvement, but I'm still not getting inline with the ball, especially on the back foot.

BF http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibhlVaS0Qjs&feature=youtube_gdata_player
And here are 2 videos from summer 2011, my best season with the bat to date. And a little trigger movement into my game,

I know people have their own opinions on trigger movements, but I feel they have really helped my game by getting my feet moving!
-
Although in my last few nets, I have been out of form and thinking about my trigger too much, going to far and getting LBW. I was thinking, even if I don't move across my stumps in my trigger and just sort of lifted my feet up and back down. Would that work to get my feet moving?
-
Implicit and explicit movement, cue Buzz....
-
Not all players have trigger movements, and not all have trouble with moving their feet. It's not a great trigger though because a) you're not that still at point of release, b) it's not always exactly the same (so implicit movement and muscle memory will be tricky), c) it doesn't allow you to bring your bat down straight so you lose your balance, and d) it doesn't get you side on and in the best place to play the shot. It's more of a premeditation to try and hit through the leg side. I would be more worried about the fact that you aren't side on when playing, because your footwork doesn't look too bad. When hitting straight, do you hit leg side in the 'v'? But I'm sure Buzz will show off his knowledge and tell me I'm wrong so I'd wait for him to see it lol.
-
My strongest shot is through mid wicket, but that also bring a large amount of my dismissals. My straight drives tend to go to the left side of the stumps (bowler can't field them there!) I don't have any problems cutting, nor driving through the offside.mits more to get my feet moving, mother wise they'll stay stuck where they start.
I'm off to my first net for a while now, I'll let you know how I get on
-
Try back foot forwards as a trigger. will push your balance forwards and make it easier to put a big stride in
-
I usually go back and across, shall I try forward and across tonight then?
-
Try it, if it doesn't work, you haven't lost anything.

Loving this - it highlights a few issues.
Liam - I will send you a PM with a few thoughts
-
Buzz if you don't mind can you please post it here as well?
I might have not said enough thank you' but really I love reading your post as they are extremely insightful and beneficial for us chaps. I think not only me but a lot of chaps would love reading your post as it can probably help them in a way or two.
There are some guys who I know fear and are shy posting there videos so imagine if they have similar issues as Liam and don't ask us/on forum it can still help them.
Just my two cent
Thank you!

I think it's probably Liam you need to ask mate, as to whether he would like his technical strengths and weaknesses aired on a public forum.
:D
-
Ooopps sorry, Liam that is directed towards you then :D

Well got back from nets
Started with a couple of buckets on the bowling machine at 65mph. Just using my normal technique. Middled a couple but felt really out of sorts, then went in against the bowlers. Had trouble judging the bounce in relation to the length. Had a new bowler who was swinging it loads, was plumb LBW a couple of times. Popped a couple up in the air. Pretty much a rubbish net, will take on what buzz has told me and try to simplify it a bit more next week

And me to be fair :( lol

At nets last night, there was only one shot I hit consistently well, the sweep, mainly paddle sweep with a couple of reverses.
I can start using The club nets on Sunday so planning to get some filming done on Monday.
Anyone know how to safely prop up an iPad to film a net?
-
i would suggest filming from behind the net if you can, to avoid the issue of having the ball ever hit the ipad!
i had an ex-county player looking at my technique on sunday and his advice was to keep as still as possible before the ball is delivered. it was difficult because i was on the bowling machine working on full, straight deliveries so i had a tendency to fall onto my front foot too early.

You shouldn't film from behind. You can't see anything!
-
when i say behind, i mean outside of the net as opposed to behind the bowler's arm!!
-
I'm confused, do you mean behind the batsman or behind the bowling machine, outside of the net. If it's behind the batsman then that is no good becaus eyou can't see any of the components of the technique that you should be focusing on,.
-
I am very soon, going to be doing another "Batting Progression" like this, seeing as me and Liam did the same academy :D

Budding adult cameraman right there :D
-
So I filmed this today, tried to say more side on and cut out the trigger. Although you could probably say the knee flex is a sort of trigger, it really helped.

Look good mate! Will have to pop down for a net sometime soon :)
-
Yeah mate, the nets are up now through to September!
I had a bit of a dodgy moment at 2.52, got pinned on the forearm
-
Seeing as I have 2 weeks of now, we should organise something! Get Kieron from Bulldog down too! :)
