I have just finished making my 3rd bat. This one is G1 - finished weight 2.11, mid-low middle with a flattish toe to improve pick-up. Really happy with this one - still need to work on the finishing as i'm still getting some sanding marks. Had a play with the stickers I had made by Joe, they needs something else but i'm not quite sure yet!
Anyway here are the photo's

Looks Very good. When you say flatter toe do you mean you've removed more wood and out is therefore thinner?
-
Looks a cracker! What did you use for concaving?

Nathan

Looks lovely, toe a bit too weak no ?
-

Thanks mate. A round bottomed plane

Yes, originally the spine went all the way to the toe so I removed some wood which made the toe thinner and therefore 'flatter' but didn't remove any more wood from the edges at the toe.

The stickers are very nice! Remind me of the limited M&H Solution ones. I like the shape of the spine on the bat, not keen on the offset edges though.
-

Won't know until it's used! I would like to think there is enough wood there for it not to be weak but who knows :)
-
nice work.. love the stickers too!
-
of set edges?
-
Looks good, Kudos. How does it tap up?
-
of set edges?
Yep, mid-low middle spine position and mid-high edge widest point

very nicely so far considering it's not knocked in. It's one of Matt's (H4L) clefts so they are usually very responsive :D

Bat looks nice mate, good effort but i got a question :(
does the spine looks wavy ??? to anyone else or is it the light?
-
It looked a little wavy in the photo when I posted it, but it's not wavy in reality. The finish isn't as good as it could be on the spine so I am doing some remedial work to improve it

Ok cool, i looked at that pic a lot of times to make sure my eyes weren't lying to me :)...
Whats the spine height on it? looks very similar to a demo shape i got off H4L
-
Nice one mate. Does it have a sharp spine or rounded spine ?. Would a rounded spine be easier ?
-
Looks really good . Little bit worried the toe looks thin. Could just be the images tho. Nice shape aswell

It's slightly rounded as I prefer the finish and it is a bit easier to get straighter than a really sharp spine

Looks great, well done!!!!

Could anyone link me to the page where Matt put up the prices of the clefts ? Searched for ages but can't find it

looks a cracker, top work
looks like a GT profile with a twist

Finished shaping this bat on Friday afternoon. Think I will be keeping this one and using it this year. 'TT' style shoulders, G1, 9/10 grains with some heartwood bang on 2.10 with one grip and toe guard. Bit of work still to do on the finishing. Some have you will have already seen it on my twitter feed. It's just awaiting my new stickers from Joe :D

Top tidy...like the look of that mate!
-
Thanks mate. I think it's the first one where I haven't made the shoulders or toe overly thin so very happy with it. Picks-up nicely too for the amount of wood in it!
-
Looks good mate, any pics of the shoulders?
-
Yep, I'll take some in a minute

What did you use to do shoulders?
Will look sweet with yellow CT stickers.
-
Good work :D bet your pleased.
-
I marked out a 1 1/2" drop on the shoulder with a centre reference line on the top of the splice/handle. I then used a small saw (as I don't have a bandswaw) and very carefully cut along the line. To make the curve in the shoulder, I used a black and decker drum sander attachment for my drill. It's like a circular foam sponge and the belt sanding sheets slide over the circumference. I used a 120grit belt sheet and it easily removed the willow to leave a really nice curve.
I agree with the yellow stickers - I deliberately tried to match the colour if the yellow with the grip. Can't wait to see how all of them turn out!

Yeah, I am. I was having one of those days where things weren't going right with it and I felt like giving it up and selling all my tools. If i'm honest, I didn't set out with the dropped shoulders in mind and it was actually a solution to a problem.
The end result I'm really, really pleased with and looking forward to working with some more clefts.

That looks lovely mate and so is the finishing on that...very nice work, well done...TT and Epic's illegitimate child ?
-
Thanks mate, the finishing is something I have been working on. Yeah, I would say not far of an Epic profile
-
Ooooooooooooooooooooohhh, that is sooooooo sexy! I so want a shoulderless bat!
-
Thanks Fattus. Takes a proper batsman to use a shoulderless bat ;)
-
You sir - have style!
-
Very Nice profile, decent edges and high spine. Nice work!
