Title: New GM Halo
Post by: Colesy on April 10, 2012, 12:21:35 PM
Went into Globe Sports today to take my broken Boom Boom in. After a quick conversation they said they'd send it back to SS to get it repaired hopefully within a week. My dad said that I should have a spare bat in-case one breaks or to use in nets so offered to pay for a new bat if I paid him back.

Very quickly decided on this, the last Halo in the shop. It is an 808 which weighs 2lb 9, 12/13 fairly straight grains with a small butterfly stain near the toe. Picks up nicely for a low middled bat, not huge edges guessing about 30mm. Off the mallet it seems decent but not really done anything productive with it yet other than shadow bat. I'm really pleased as it feels really nice in the hands with a lovely handle with one grip on. Will knock it in before Saturday and if the weather holds it might get its first outing although will have the Boom Boom if I bottle it ;)

Anyway, here are some quick pics. Enjoy, I hope.

I love the Halo - I was in Lilywhites on Saturday and there was a 909 I was VERY tempted to buy.
Great pickup (GM index 3) and lovely shape.

Yeah they didn't have an 1885 to compare it to but it will be the closest thing to a Purist I can get for a while and I love traditional shapes so this fits the bill.

I had a look at the Halo and the 1885 last time I was @ Owzat, lovely looking bats - wouldn't be able to choose between them.

Out of interest how much are the 808's do they get classed as G2 or G1?

Looks very good! These feel great too!

I find Halo better than 1885 for some reason

I agree. I've got a black grip on my Flare and it looks awesome.

Black grips on GM bats just look good.

The one you picked up looks like a decent looking stick, Very surprising for G2. Hope it goes well, No doubt you will prefer this over the Boom Boom

Yeah was really surprised it was the last Halo left as it looks decent and is 2lb 9.

There was a lovely Chase in the shop but it was 2lb 12. When I get the Boom Boom back I'll use it in nets and T/20s.

I agree! I have black grips nearly on all of my bats, find them best as they don't get dirty (even if they do you can't see)

PS: I have orange on my Flare :D

165 is a lot of cash for a grade 2 stick though it is a nice looking one, that much money buys you plenty of bat on here!

I agree, I popped into Romida in Leatherhead yesterday they had some very nice looking GM's but the price put me off knowing I can get a bat on here for similar price.

Not sure I'd ever look elsewhere, even eBay's prices can't compete with whats available on here at the moment.

Colesy mate these bats will take a while to open up but believe me once they open they are gun! My teammate has 808 and he fully opened it and bat goes like train! Amazing bat!

I know mate, knocking it in now. I've never, ever used a bad GM so despite knowing that £165 could get me something else on here, I know what I will get with GM. I've used 8 GMs (I think) and all over them have been on par as the best I've used.

As you have seen my Hero 808 is a beauty - still gonna use it this season I think despite having a new H4L...

Looks like you have done well with this one, must have been stuck at the back of the shelf for nobody to have picked it up before!

Cheers mate. Had some throw downs earlier, I know it doesn't matter much but it has a really good sound to it.

How does it play compare to a Hero, middle-wise, Colesy (provided you've played with a Hero)?
Title: Re: New GM Halo
Post by: Colesy on April 10, 2012, 11:40:45 PM
Played with the old Orange hero as opposed to the yellow one Byo has. The oranges ones were a 2.11 909 and a 2.10 Original, both really good performing bats, pushes going for four etc as well as being well balanced.

Compared to my Halo they're quite similar, the shapes are marginally different but the pick up and balance are very similar.

I'm sure one of the GM boys on here like Streaky might be able to point out the differences.
