As we know bats have been around for more then 100 years
So what is your favourite profile, with pics, from the last few years.
Try not to repeat profile shapes if possible!!!!

Newbery GT definately up there. Loved the old school Powerbow shape too. Will try and find a pic of one!

Love that Legend shape!
-
Love the Newbery GT shape, superb stuff.
I'd imagine there'd be a few fond of the Purist and Mjolnir on here too.

Chase Custom FLC..... High spine, thin edges, 2.10, enormous sweetspot... ;)

YES!!!! That is right up my street :D

YES!!!! That is right up my street :D
Thanks mate! It was supposed to be an amalgamation of PeteHosk's M&H Custom (which is a very early Distinction) with the middle position of his Scat Series 1 this is what Dan came back to me with....it flies and looks how a real bat should...no daft fat edges ;)
-
Looks very similar to my RPC match bat. Good old traditional profile. No concaving, offset edges etc, just all the meat where it should be :) Except yours looks a far size larger than mine does at the same weight lol.
-
Get some pics up of your bat then! We need to fill this thread with 'proper' bats! ;) :D :D
-
Don't know if you will be able to click this link from this site, but interesting, and a profile that will suit some. Even a picture of the bat scabbard.

-
That's got some serious grainage! I like it! Nice high spine...does it go well??
-
Ha ha - I thought that Newbery would catch your eye! Very similar profile to the excalibur - must remember to take some pics of that, but won't be able to do it until the weekend.
-
Need I say mine? :D

This is one that I'm fond of

I picked up a near identical one in that very shop only the other day....it's a beauty! Myself and the Hosk were admiring it...
-
I'm really fond of this lately but pedals won't as he can't swing bats with big edges even though I don't ask for that when my bats are made

Far too much wind resistance around the edges mate! She is a beauty though...
-
I haven't noticed any wind resistance but I'll keep an eye out just incase
-
my fav is turning out to be this one...going great for me this season

It will be the same bat, they said it was the 2010 model. What was the grainage and pick up like? The pics are not great but the pic shows about 50% heartwood

Nice bat that mate ;)

Nice bat that mate ;)
thanks liam...everyone and anyone who has played atleast 1 ball with it wants to take it back out...
-
Haha I have that problem mate. Have to keep an eye on my bats otherwise they tend to be out in the middle without me knowing
-
This is my favourite - a mix of traditional and modern with smaller edges but no concaving and a slight bow. Shame I haven't had chance to use it yet with all the sodding rain :(
(http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/4504/img8375g.jpg)

Not really bothered about profile tbh, as long as it picks up well and pings don't really care. The performance all comes from the pressing.
-

Grainage was good but nothing astounding...about 7/8 straight grains....these oversize clefts they use are rarely pretty though so I wouldn't judge a Distinction on looks. Pickup was excellent....I wanted it!
-
Here is a question influenced from Joe's statement.
Norbs, is the over riding factor the pressing to the performance of a cricket bat?
Also not convinced with some of these "new" thick edged designs. OK for clubbing , but surely timing and bat speed is king?

I think it definitely is - people go on about how SCATs perform so well, if I got a batmaker to replicate a SCAT series 1 then if the pressing is not that important it would perform as well surely?
-

Exactly like Sunday. And al has his own BR but still took the other that another lad is 'knocking in for me' lol

I know, I was talking to big al and he said you wouldn't notice lol. Still yet to knock his own in...
-
Haha he's like a bog kid. His has 16 grains and god it goes. Told me if it wasn't as good as mine he pinched that he was swapping the bats round for the one he nicked Sunday haha

And by this you indicate that JM does his own pressing?

Love. That.
-
Well they aren't pressed by TK - no yellow grip and animal glue on the videos. But then again, all clefts look handled/pressed and I don't see a press:

The Kookaburra Diablo is my favourite profile (may be biased as I had one which I scored quite a lot of runs with :) )

What's the RK stickered one? Is it a County?

This is still my favourite profile:

Please dont show me James Ultra again :o as much as I respect Laver the profile does nothing for me.....
Joe we are talking profiles not pressing and quite frankly if you press in a certain way and have a bit of patience you end up with great bat

Reflex 8*
wet weather bat
-
Reflex 8*
wet weather bat
How could you use a Reflex as a wet weather bat >:(
-
Because it's old, hardy and has a lovely low middle.
Martin Berrill made a good un here.
-
I should post my sons bat it is a size 2 but love the profile!

Oh God I've had a moment - I've used this bat and I lurveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee this bat!
Tim, if you ever want to sell this bat, I'd offer up a vital organ or testicle as part-payment.

I'd clearly need your most saleable organ... I believe that kidneys are a good call...
-
I fear you may have underestimated what is my most saleable organ!

Some, once removed from their host, become significantly less valuable...
-
Well, my Pancreas is shagged, my brain is fuzzy - but Little Fattus still gets the occasional outing - so I'd go for the Cornea. apparently I don't use them whilst I'm batting!
-
I have a profile or two I am fond of!

-
In some of his other 'how scats are made videos' he uses a press.
-
Crikey Pete, there's some serious mass where it's most useful on that one. :o
-
It's around 2'8/2'9 with a light pickup and no concaving - edges are small by todays standards, but I think it's nice that way! And there is a generous amount of wood where it counts!
The thing I like about this profile is the middle is a fair size and I have to say that the pressing/performance is brilliant! This was used at the Batoff and the Stig was desperate to make the bat disappear. Blank Bats even borrowed it to use as a template for one of their shapes! Once used, everyone wanted to take it away with them!!

Tommys size 2 :D (http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/553738_361216260617435_1700212068_n.jpg)

Tommy's a lucky lad!
-
Bit of split willow >:( so Tom got lucky 10-11 grains on a 3.5inch wide bat!!!!
-
Is it based on one of your full size models? I like it!....a lot ;)
-
I keep admiring the big stuff recently. Not that ill ever be able use any of them. But things like the milichamp railway sleepers etc. I quite like this as well
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa381/pidge1988/IMAG0085.jpg)

That looks nice
-
I emailed julian about the pressing of his bats and he says that he does it himself but overseas not at his aussie workshop. Interesting!!
-
The only thing I find interesting is the performance of his bats! ;)
