Thought it would be interesting to see what your team would be if all of the current England team became unavailable
Who would your XI +sub be?
1. Root (Bat) (OS)
2. Carberry (Bat)
3. Compton (Bat)
4. Roy (Bat)
5. Butler (WK) (Bat)
6. Hamilton-Brown (Bat) (OS)
7. Stokes (Bat) (FM)
8. Woakes (FM) (Bat)
9. Borthwick (LB) (Bat)
10. Dernbach (FM)
11. Meaker (FM)
12. Mills (FM)
I've stayed away from anyone on the fringe, Patel, Morgan, Onions etc
Who would you choose?
-
Last time I checked, Taylor was in the English test team
-
Ooops! Didn't mean to leave them in
1. Root (Bat) (OS)
2. Carberry (Bat)
3. Compton (Bat)
4. Roy (Bat)
5. Butler (WK) (Bat)
6. Hamilton-Brown (Bat) (OS)

12. Mills (FM)

And bairstow :D
-
removed above!
-
That's a very young team you've got there.
-
True, but a very talented young team
9 people that can bat and 8 that can bowl within a team of 12 gives a lot of variety and options
-
Would most likely go with steve davis at surrey as the keeper, or does he count as a fringe player?
-
Wouldn't say so, a very good shout i think
1. Root (Bat) (OS)

Certainly a bright future for England when you look at all the young options they have available
-

-

Stokes

No Root?
He seems to be next in line for the test opening spot?
-
I think root is englands steve smith. Built up to be a player he is not
-
Haven't seen any/enough of him to pass comment. Roy isn't good enough either imo, as a surrey fan!

I agree that Roy isn't good enough, hasn't performed at all this year - then again noone at surrey has really...
Regarding Root, he's not a T20 player - I think he'd thrive in the test arena though.
-
I don't think roy has the temperament to succeed at test level either. He is very hot headed. Any time he scores at less than a run a ball he regards it as a failure
-
I think Varun Chopra is someone who deserves some mention, he's had a fantastic 2 seasons since moving to Warwickshire, finally got recognition with a Lions game a fortnight ago. He seems to be someone who doesn't get much/any media attention but just puts up very good numbers with very consistent performances. He can also clearly handle a lot of pressure and a big workload, as having Westwood and Porterfield as the other members of a top 3 means he's relied on to make 80% of the runs!
-
He's been scoring for fun last few weeks, but I don't think that excuses several seasons of mediocrity!
-
I think exactly the same, Root is not a T20 player and I think will be another Cook that beomces more of a OD batsman after a few years.
Hes a test players, a Vaughn copy. Why not throw someone in at the deep end instead of letting people get on a bit, throwing them in and then not giving them enough time to sort out what they need to learn.
Bairstow being a perfect example!

Root is going to be a thoroughly excellent player - but not in T20 cricket. He only made our side because of his ability to bowl a few overs of not-at-all-bad part time off spin. Peanut (Adam Lyth) should have been in as a batsman really.
-
Okay, discounting anyone who has been in a test squad this season, I would look at:
Joe Root
Adam Lyth
Michael Carberry
Eoin Morgan
Gary Ballance
Ben Stokes
Craig Kieswetter
Azim Rafiq
Stuart Meaker
Toby Roland-Jones
Simon Kerrigan
-
Ballance oh no
Ansari looks like he has potential
-
Ansari is class, although he should not be used as an opener imo
-

Ballance has shown a lot of potential - a good technique, lots of power etc. If he were at Surrey, people would be drooling over him.
Though n reflection, I'd drop him from my side to accommodate Andrew Gale, as a smart skipper is needed.
-
No way I would leave Buttler out!!
Even if he doesn't keep, he is still a class mid-order bat!!
-
anyone seen much of rob newton at northants great numbers recently i'm a bit biased as hes a mate of mine but gonna be a hell of a good player!
-
Am i missing something but i thought Ballance was Zimbabwean?
-
Since when did that get in the way of anything.
He's not classed as an overseas player so i presume that he at least has a European passport (do we have a trade agreement with Zimbabwe?)
-
Based on the averages in the 1st division of the CC, I am going for the below. I am not enthoused by filling my team with youngsters...
Westwood
Lumb
NRD Compton
Hildreth
Hamilton-Brown
C Kieswetter
Clarke
CR Woakes
Meaker
Roland-Jones
Panasar
-
And who would you guys pick as captain as well?
-
Hamilton-Brown i guess would be the favourite with his experience as captain
-
No-one gone for Chris Read?
819 runs @ 48 is pretty handy for a W/K who captains.
-
Very good but CR has had his chance and would be like going backwards instead of going with the young talent and future of England.

and if you were going to Read you'd probably continue past him as far as James Foster...
-
Ashwell prince
Van jarsveld
Faf de plieses
Could probably round out the middle order for you :P
