Haven't seen any/enough of him to pass comment. Roy isn't good enough either imo, as a surrey fan!

I agree that Roy isn't good enough, hasn't performed at all this year - then again noone at surrey has really...

Regarding Root, he's not a T20 player - I think he'd thrive in the test arena though.

I don't think roy has the temperament to succeed at test level either.  He is very hot headed.  Any time he scores at less than a run a ball he regards it as a failure

I think Varun Chopra is someone who deserves some mention, he's had a fantastic 2 seasons since moving to Warwickshire, finally got recognition with a Lions game a fortnight ago. He seems to be someone who doesn't get much/any media attention but just puts up very good numbers with very consistent performances. He can also clearly handle a lot of pressure and a big workload, as having Westwood and Porterfield as the other members of a top 3 means he's relied on to make 80% of the runs!

He's been scoring for fun last few weeks, but I don't think that excuses several seasons of mediocrity!

I think exactly the same, Root is not a T20 player and I think will be another Cook that beomces more of a OD batsman after a few years.

Hes a test players, a Vaughn copy. Why not throw someone in at the deep end instead of letting people get on a bit, throwing them in and then not giving them enough time to sort out what they need to learn.

Bairstow being a perfect example!

I think root is englands steve smith. Built up to be a player he is not

Root is going to be a thoroughly excellent player - but not in T20 cricket.  He only made our side because of his ability to bowl a few overs of not-at-all-bad part time off spin.  Peanut (Adam Lyth) should have been in as a batsman really.

Okay, discounting anyone who has been in a test squad this season, I would look at:

Joe Root
Adam Lyth
Michael Carberry
Eoin Morgan
Gary Ballance
Ben Stokes
Craig Kieswetter
Azim Rafiq
Stuart Meaker
Toby Roland-Jones
Simon Kerrigan

Ansari is class, although he should not be used as an opener imo

Ballance has shown a lot of potential - a good technique, lots of power etc.  If he were at Surrey, people would be drooling over him.

Though n reflection, I'd drop him from my side to accommodate Andrew Gale, as a smart skipper is needed.

No way I would leave Buttler out!!
Even if he doesn't keep, he is still a class mid-order bat!!

Since when did that get in the way of anything.

He's not classed as an overseas player so i presume that he at least has a European passport (do we have a trade agreement with Zimbabwe?)
