I've been spending most of today working on our first 2013 Gray-Nicolls order. Quite a tricky task! I keep going back and forth about the GN100 Force, so I wanted the CBF's views on this bat.
Basically, the Scoop will have 2 grades next year, with the Force being the entry level. It is English Willow and will RRP at £100, so we'd sell it for around £85. I am not sure if it's Grade 3 or 4, and haven't actually seen the bat yet, but it is basically just a low end Scoop (apparently no difference in shape etc.)
The main reason they're doing this is because the G2 Scoop is going up in price to £250, so they want to give the punter a bit more of an option. Despite this, both grades of the Scoop will still have very limited numbers, like this year, so they are bound to come and go quickly...
Will this GN100 Force cheapen the Scoop's image? Are the people who want to buy the Scoop going to be put off by a sub £100 price tag? Or is it quite relevant, especially now the standard Scoop has gone up in price?
I look forward to hearing some feedback as it will certainly help me make my mind up on stocking them...
Cheers,
Paul

I should think the kind of peeps who will be buying the GN100 will have the money and inclination to buy the more expensive one. People on a budget are unlikely to buy a scoop

The scoop force has been around already this season !
It's on retail at lorimers for 75 pound the one I picked up was actually very. Nice just the fibre scuff sheet and protected face made it look like rubbish

Strange, it wasn't on our order form last year and I didn't see anyone else stocking it...

Yes he still has a I think a 2.9 in stock I was desperate for a scoop an considers the cheaper version however I ended up getting a full price scoop .
It's strange cos there was 11 straight grains however the fibre sheet over it ruined it .
Made me wonder gn way of thinking

sounds like a way to get rid of some duff clefts to me.

Yip,
I doubt anybody on here or that plays at a good level will be buying a £85 scoop.

I don't know about that, it depends on if it is one of those ones that are painted at the back and have the polycoat facing with drawn in grains, bleached or a natural finish. I reckon if it is natural with a face guard, those people who wanted a Scoop without the massive price tag will be inclined to go with the cheaper option. I agree that anyone looking for a Scoop is likely to have quite a budget, but those without the big budget may be tempted to buying a Scoop. I know if I had 85 to spare, I would definitely consider getting one if it has a natural face with/without a clear anti-scuff! 8)

If the price of the Scoop is going up to £250, have you got any idea how much a Dynadrive is going to be? Hope it's not £250 for that.....I won't bother if it is!
-
The scoop force will provide a chance for someone to experience the unique shape. They can go on to buy the higher end GN scoop if they like it.
-
it'll make those scoops brought this year alot more expensive 2nd hand on ebay.

Dynadrive will be £200 RRP, we are going to sell it for £159.99. The main reason the Scoop went up to £250 was to "make room" on the price point ladder for the Dynadrive. One slightly annoying thing about the Dynadrive is that, unlike the Sc oop, they won't be doing them in LH...

We are doing this too, but haven't advertised it yet on our website. 50% deposit to secure one, so £80.

Hmmm........If I actually manage to earn any money next week I will give you a shout! Will I get a choice of blades?

You can choose exact weight, and you could specify grain numbers etc. as well as we will most likely be hand picking them...
-
Are we talking r.r.p of £250
-
If you can pre order one and specify the grains I will definately be up for that
-
Top news...! I'll be in touch.... ;)
-

For the top Scoop, yes.
Looks like the Scoop Force is a no-no then - cheers for the feedback. A fibrtec sheet as standard for an SH bat is a little silly imho. Not convinced about the £250 one either as it's gone up so much and now has to compete with the Dynadrive! It's tmes like this I wish we just had a bottomless pit of money to order in stock!!
-

This is definitely possible, yes. One other thing to add, though, would be to get those pre-orders in by latest next Friday as I really want to place this order by then. Ideally Monday, to be honest.

I'm all over this! Let me know how to proceed! Cheers....

GN seem to be making a pigs ear of this. Not sure anyone will pay #250 for a g2 cleft, and NO long handle? Boo and indeed HISS!
but the entry level - you might sell a few to youngsters?

Iain, it's not all bad - they do the £250 Scoop in LH, just not the Dynadrive. I am put off by the £50 increase in the top Scoop, though, especially as the Dynadrive is there now as competition and will cost £50 less!
-
I might be in the minority here but the cheap scoop could sell better simply because of the price point. We forum members might turn our nose up at the cheap scoop but the average walk in punter might lap it up.
£250 for a G2 cleft is silly, I can even get an M&H for less! My scoop is going straight on ebay when they launch the new range lol
-
Are there any differences between the 2012 scoops and the 2013 scoops? i.e. stickers?

*adopts whiny teenager's voice*
yeah but I've already GOT a Scoop!

None whatsoever - more evidence to suggest that the price hike is a silly idea!

Good point - cheers for the feedback.

I'm my experience ive always found GN stuck in there ways and they look to be getting worse not better, how can you justify a £50 rise in the scoop with no change in design or quality or anything.
75% of the scoops ive seen haven't been g2 in my opinion ive seen some id class as g3/g4 and some i wouldnt pay £50.00 never mind £250.00 so this looks a mixed up mess.
I'm guessing that the scoop has gone well so up the price and bring in a new old range at a different price range to try and attract more customers, i would have thought both ranges would carry the same rrp with 2 models on offer and offering customers 2 different styles but the same quality at the same price.
I'm not sure how well this topic is doing in regards to orders but im certinly interested to see how many people get what they ask for in regards to number of grains as from experience you wont see many with more than 9 grains and some on here are obsessed with 27 grains and all that.

To an extent, I agree, as we were a bit disappointed with a couple of the bats GN sent us last year. This is one of the reasons we're hand picking this time, which should ensure a reasonable selection of 9+ grained bats. Perhaps Asad could back me up here, though, because I'm not totally sure, having never been down to Robertsbridge before...
-
Plus, if anyone asked specifically for a bat with 27 grains, I would turn them away out of principle. There's picky, and then there's just plain stupid!
At the end of the day, the Dynadrive is perhaps the most anticipated cricket bat in the past few years. It's a cracking bat - I loved the samples I was shown last week - and if someone wants one, are they really going to get hung up on grain numbers?
