Title: Slazenger V6 and V12 Bats now available for pre-order...
Post by: ItsJustCricket on September 27, 2012, 09:31:41 AM
Having placed our Slazenger stock order already, I thought I'd put these up:

http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bats-c17/senior-cricket-bats-c18/slazenger-v6-cricket-bat-p483
http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bats-c17/senior-cricket-bats-c18/slazenger-v12-limited-edition-cricket-bat-p482

We won't have these bats in until November, but for those of you wishing to be amongst the first people to own one, they are both available for pre-order now, at the weights listed.  They will all be hand picked too...

Even though I love the stickers, I feel that the price on these is very unrealistic.

Quite interesting that it doesnt state that the V6 is made in the uk... I thought they were both being made by DF?

I think it's just the V12, but don't want to publicize either way on our website as I don't know for sure, and the catalogue is giving nothing away either!

humm, i don't want to be too negative but £350 for a Duncan Fernley bat with slazenger stickers doesn't strike me as a great deal..

No, quite, especially when the retro DFs were only around the £200 mark!

I think they'll be popular with the general public though - the limited edition aspect of them adds value.

probably true that - there will be some bat snob who fancies one...

....erm, yeah, moving on...

V6 is made in India.

My thoughts exactly! I've used a DF retro the Hosk owns and it is a stunning bat, I think it cost Pete about £200 and it was the top of the range. How can this DF made Slaz be £359?

think someone at Slazenger has lost their marbles...!

If it has Slazenger stickers - it's a Slazenger and £359.99 for a top grade Slazenger isn't that pricey.

Are we allowed to talk about who makes Slazenger bats?

I must add here that £359.99 price is the price that I've decided to sell them for, having seen them in the flesh and been given their RRP, which is £425 by the way...

I couldn't agree with Matt more about the limited edition aspect adding value, and the certificate and signature card thrown in is a nice touch too.  I am sure they will sell at this price and have no plans to discount any more.

Compared to their competitors and Slazenger bat prices from previous years. No.

If you're going to compare the price to a bloke who finishes a few part mades at home in his shed alongside his full time job, then yes they are.

The way supply of willow is going, prices are only going to increase.

Indeed, as is proven by every one of our suppliers 2013 price lists, except Slazenger - the only one who haven't put their prices up...

My 2 Blank Bats cost little more than that combined, not sure they were finished off in a shed.

Any reason for the price of willow increasing other than the standard increase in logistics costs?

The thing I don't get is how a Dynadrive (admittedly a G2) can be £159 and this Slaz can be £200 more!!! I'm really not that sure that these will sell as well as some people think...although I'm happy to be proved wrong!  ;)

No, but with the greatest respect - they're sold out of a back bedroom by 2 guys who aren't registered as a company.

And yes, G1 and G2 is in very short supply. You now have to order a lot of 3's and 4's to get Top Grade, and Wrights have again put their prices.

Choose where you send your money - but big bat brands aren't ripping you off. £400 for a G1 is par for the course now and the margins really aren't that massive.

Dynadrive is made in India, probably from much lower grade willow - which is then upgraded by the manufacturer to make a G2.

Demand from sub-continental makers inccreasing and I'd guess the trend towards less durable bats caused by changing shape preferences. Historically, you bought a bat and it lasted years...

If you look at willow supply, GN supply their own, Wrights supply nearly everyone and then there's also a few smaller suppliers out there. It's a pretty restricted raw material supply model for a product that is being provided to a country with a significantly larger population than the combined exports ever wereand which is becoming more affluent.

I'm not sure where the guys store their bats but the fact remains that they are a quality product and would probably out-perform most of these Slaz bats hands down. With the huge price difference, surely for people in the know it's a no brainer. I can see them selling well to the less fortunate though and as you say no more expensive than their Rival brands

Interesting, so are we likely to see more lower grade clefts upgraded in house by brands in the future?

this happens all the time and alot of the time....

like g1 bats wrights state that a g1 shouldnt have heart wood how many g1 bats do u see with heartwood a fair few :)

end of the day willow prices are going up big companys have invested alot of money and the margins are not as big as you think,

The issue i can see is that there is no 'standard' in terms of grading willow...

So a hand made slazenger using their best willow costs £359 and a GN legend made in India will cost around £500+

Seems to me the slaz is a bargain (comparing prices)

I've given up listening to what grade a bat is, if it looks nice then I'm going to buy it. I've seen grade one bats look worse than my "grade 3" bleached bat.

Thanks Alba i guess if people want to pay big money for a company that isnt a 'back bedroom' company they can

but as you know the quality is up there with the £500+ bats

Quite agree - personally I like a decent edge of heartwood so I will look for that type of bat where I can get it.  Though I will have to consider whether I'm prepared to pay G1 prices for those in future...

Yes, if you're in the know and know a quality back-bedroom bat brand then there's a chance for a bargain. But there's a place for big brands, and the retailers who stock them. There's a need for retailers who source quality products and ensure their customers get quality.

With no name brands, maybe you'll save a bit. But choose carefully, as there's many who aren't what they claim - and there's not the protection of buying through a multinational company through a well respected retailer who handpicks the bats and ensures they stock quality.

There's room for both types of company in the marketplace but price wise, in my opinion, they can't be compared (and one called a rip-off), as the service and protection offered differs vastly.

I agree with this up until you say that the big brands offer you better protection and service....then you lost me. The smaller brands (the good ones) look after their customers far better....that's the main benefit (other than price) of using them!

I didn't say better. I said different.

There's an advantage to going to a high street store, tapping up bats and playing numerous shadow strokes as you pick out your perfect big brand bat. But there's also an advantage to ringing up a small batmaker or brands and talking for hours about willow and what may suit you.

Different strokes for different folks and with service so different, I don't like to compare price.
